Tell me.....does the Monarchs have a chance at a "at large" palyoff spot or a conference championship. I would have to think too hard. help me
Never shall I leave a fallen comrade

abnrgr - no shot, in my opinion - there are too many 0 and 1 loss teams in the region, and the monarchs lack a "signature" win (sorry cnu fans...cnu hasn't beaten a team with a winning record this season...doesn't count as a signature win) - gotta count on the pride or ncwc AND cnu beating ferrum for a straight up aq or the 3 way tie

What if a team plays some really tough competition, wins a few games, but has to shoot thelights out to win?
maybe i didn't spell this out enough...i suggest that only scores from games involving the tied teams count - in the scenario that mc, fc and cnu were tied, you would take the scores from the mc/cnu game, mc/fc game and cnu/fc game...the team that allowed the fewest points gets the aq - there are still some variables that are out of a team's control...if the game is played in a complete quagmire, scoring may be difficult...but to me it seems more fair than a coin flip, which is completely random

how about a round robin contest with the same rules as Overtime? All on the same field at the same time.....not sure how it would work...but at least it would be decided on the field!!
i like the concept, but there is no way that would fly with the ncaa

Until someone else wins the conference (i mean outright) CNU is still the team to beat.  They have made the playoffs every year.  Like or not CNU has made this conference better, they made everyone step up to their level.

ROLL PRIDE!
we may not be going but we are still a deciding factor in who does

cnu85

whooooosh.......

what was that?

A breath of fresh air!!

Thank you GCMan!

GCMAN I don't think anyone would argue with you on that.  For most of the year we have been discussing that exact thing.  CNU has brought this conference any notoriety that we have.  Not only has CNU raised their level of play but they have caused everyone else in the conference to raise their level to compete with CNU.  More than any other team CNU is responsible for the level of play n the USASAC.  Still doesn't mean I have to like them. ;D

Quote from: narch on October 25, 2005, 08:42:34 AMhere is what i know about m'ville:

they rank 6th in scoring offense (21.6 ppg)
they rank 7th in yardage gained (334 ypg)
they are balanced (135 rypg, 5th - 199 pypg, 5th)
they are 6th in total defense (allow 408 ypg)
they are 8th in scoring defense (allow 36.9 ppg)

the starting rb averages 3.6 ypc, but they have a wr who has 7 td's (all in conference games) and averages 78 ypg in receptions - he's 6'1, 180...could be a difficult match up for the monarchs - he went for 182 yards and 3 td's vs. ferrum

the other thing i know is that it will be a LONG bus ride through the mountains to get to m'ville...you know that you can never underestimate the affects of that type of trip - hopefully the monarchs will leave early enough to get that out of their system before game time - mc needs to come out firing on all cylinders like they did vs. cnu

GO PRIDE (beat ferrum), GO MONARCHS!

I don't know much about Mville's offense this year, they switched OCs over the summer.  For the last couple years they have been primarily triple option oriented, but they may have spread the field more this season, using more of a spread option type offense.  The best athlete on offense, hands down, is #17, the wideout you mentioned.  He is a playmaker and a  leader as well (was a qb in HS).  They have 2 rbs that are strong and hard-nosed.  #34 is a D-1 transfer from MTSU and the other is a Marine reservist who served in Iraq.  O-line is big, but not very strong, however they have been well coached the last couple of years (former OC was a former SEC assistant) and have a 4 year starter at center.  Don't know much about the qb, other than he sounds as if he is a good athlete and leader.

Defensively, they are not very fast or athletic, but will play to the very end.  The HC is the DC and is as hard-nosed as they come.  He has toughened this team up and they will play HARD.  #98 is the "Kelvin Hutcheson" of Mville.  He is the tackle machine and is VERY tough.  Good Leader as well.  They have another weightroom stud at LB, but I haven't seen him play yet.  #40 is a good athlete.  DL has some good players that will get after you, but they lack strength and bulk.

Special Teams wise, they have an experienced punter and I think they have a new kicker this year.  The punter kicked last year.

What M'ville lacks in speed, strength and athleticism, they make up for in heart and aggressiveness (although they DO have a few great athletes).  They are well coached by a tough, no BS, very experienced HC that loves the school.  The assistants, except for a couple semi-vets, are all very young, but most of them played at the school and know the system.

Methodist should win, but it will probably be close in the first half and maybe into the third qtr.

I haven't seen them play this year, but this is based on what I know from last season and the program in general.

This is more of a "players to watch for" than a breakdown of the Off. and Def.

It will be homecoming and the crowd will be large.  If you get a chance to go, Narch, it will be a GREAT college atmosphere for D-3 football...colored leaves, yellowing bermuda grass, cool weather and great fans from a school with ALOT of tradition. Long drive from Fayetteville, but it would be worth it.

Forgive me if I don't give anymore responses, I am a HS coach and don't have much time to post on msg boards, but I saw your questions about Mville and thought I'd chime in real quick on what I know.  I think Mville will take their lumps the next couple of years but will be tough in years to come.  The HC is a great recruiter and will be there as long as he wants to.  They have pretty decent facilities as well.   Hope this helps a little.

Good luck to both teams on Sat.

CNU's football schedule just came out for next year....we picked up a home & home with UMHB.  Now that's aggressive scheduling....let's just hope we can compete and perhaps win against a big dog from Texas.

GO CAPS and whoever else plays MC and FC!  ;)

cnu85

Yikes!!! I just saw next year's schedule!!!

Sept 2 - @ Rowan
Sept 9 - Mary Hardin- Baylor
Sept 16 - @Salisbury
Sept 30 - @ SU in a night game

The positive side - at least we get MC and Ferrum at home!!!

fightin hawk - that's great info. - i won't be able to get to the game, but if you go, i'd really appreciate your appraisal after the game - if the m'ville defense lacks speed, it could be a LONG game for them - that is one of the things the monarchs have in abundance...roncketti, hill, mcswain, sands, mularski, howard, doleman, robinson...those guys can all motor - the monarch defense could struggle again, though - the mc dl is small (starters go 238, 248, 224) and quick...they seem to struggle against teams with big, physical o-lines - is there a webcast of the game? i know there was a christian am station that carried the mc/m'ville hoops game last year...will they be webcasting the fb game?  thanks again for your info.!

cnu85

Narch,

I like you guys...it's tough hoping you lose one more conferecen game this year......ok, maybe not so tough! ;D

narch

'85 - probably not as tough as rooting FOR cnu is for me  :D

Great Site,  DIII Rocks.  How about Ferrum College.  It is great to see them finally working the USA South Conference.  I know that the conference is a little weaker this year, but overall it is a very good conference.  Can't wait until Nov 12th.  Hopefully the Captains reign will finally be over.

i'm not sure the conference is weaker...personally i think mc, fc, and ncwc are all better than they were last year - cnu is worse defensively, butthey might be better offensively (they are scoring more ppg than they did last year, and yardage numbers are similar) - certainly su and gc are down, but i'm not looking forward to the monarchs playing them and i think au is about the same as they were last year...maybe that would be a good poll question :)

welcome to the board, and i'm with you in hoping that the captains reign will be over, and the monarchs have the title :)

Thanks Narch.  And Thanks for taking out CNU last week.  Sounds like it was quite a battle.  I know for a fact that FC is very worried about GC and worried they should be.  GC throws the ball all over the place and that is FC's weak link.  (Makes me wonder what the Ricca boys could do to them)   Wesleyan should not be a problem but CNU always scares me.  Because I am so new to this board I will not talk any smack, BUT if FC gets the Bone really working, look out.  If FC gets behind early it will be a long day for the Black hats!!!
