Natural Selection - Greensboro plays its games on the campus of Grimsley High School.  Mapquest that address and the stadium is right next to the school.

It's a city stadium, not just HS - holds about 10,000 people so its a fairly nice place.

Naturalselection, I think intensity is exactly what they lack.  A defensive player is supposed be a selfish player and they are truly one of the only groups that being selfish actually helps the team.  What I mean is that they don't depend on an o-line to block so they can run, or block so they can pass, run a route correctly, get a check down.  All a defensive player needs to do is stop the ball.  So if a player feels like running up his stats on defense he hasn't done anything but help the team.

So back to intensity............giving out an old fashion ass kicking.  MU is not doing it.  Football is physical and the more physical the better.  Tackling is part of it, but tackling hard, making someone think before coming through your hole, is what I'm talking about.  Ferrum style is what I mean.  Ferrum tried to knock someones head off on every play and there is nothing wrong with that unless you are the one taking the pounding.  And trust me, you get hit hard a couple times, you start thinking.

Technique and gap control are fine, I guess.  But what MU needs is to defensively kick the ever loving s*&^ out of someone.

You are correct.  They have the talent and they look good once in awhile.  4 quarters.  Thats what it takes.  Kicking ass and taking names for 4 quarters.

I hope everyone cheers for their respective teams through the good and the bad.  I'm just thankful for this site where we have a chance to vent and discuss issues.

Good luck Saturday.  Be Safe.

Sorry. I missed your post. I am skulking about in the NE. I got a new security gig up here. As much as I use to bust on BC and HSC there might be an Eagle looking to whack me.  :)

ABN...I'm sure you can handle yourself if one them eagles comes to put a hit on ya  ;)  If you make any trips down to Lejeune I still owe you that beer!

Natural Selection....seems like you blame a lot of MU's defensive woes on the coaching staff, granted I have not witnessed a game in person for quite sometime but from what I can gather from reading these post and talking to people who go to the games it seems like the defense is lacking intensity or what I like to call "nastiness".  It's like MUS said, Ferrum doesn't try to tackle you, they try to knock you out of your cleats and it seems like MU is missing that.  I'm not sure you can blame lack of intensity on a coach.
Some will argue that the coach may need to fire up his unit, but if a player needs someone else to fire him up to play on the collegiate level then he should just turn in his cleats and take up table tennis.

Again, I haven't seen a game in person this year so this opinions are based solely on what I've read on here and from what I've heard from other people.

Adpapi, thats a much better way to put it, a "nastiness'.  Remember, it is only a penalty if you get caught ;D

CNUALUM9 - if CNU does become a national contender year in and year out it only raises the level of the conference which is good for everyone.

You are absolutely correct.  I hope that all teams from the USA South continue to grow and get stronger and develop into a conference that could get 2 bids a year.

AUPOP - I'm pretty sure most out-of-conference schedules are set-up as 2-year contracts.  This way, each team has the chance to play at home. Ryan Tipps or Pat Coleman can probably provide better insight on it.

It's usually two or four years. If a contract goes an odd number of years, it might be because a change in the conference schedule left a team with an odd schedule hole to fill, or since W&L-Averett has been played in Salem Stadium perhaps that's part of it.

If the players arent trusting the coaches and their coaching style where do they get the intensity from. i understand that its not the coaches job to light a spark in their @ss but if a player does not trust the system and believes it works he wont play with intensity. i do agree with mus that ferrum trys to take your head off and thats the way a defense should play. mu defense doesnt have that. when you watch ray lewis play he doesnt just try to tackle someone he trys to punish them and make them not want to get hit again. until a defense does that the offense is going to keep thinking they can move the ball. a defense has to hit the opponent in the mouth, not get hit. and i believe methodist does not have that mentality on defense.

Crazylegs - no one is saying CNU's out of conference record has been weak.

Out of conference is now 14 - 21 or .400 winning percentage and there aren't any Mt. Unions on that schedule.
Enjoy what you are.

No sense in arguing with you anymore.
'02, '03, '04, '06...    4 years, 4 championships...

Crazylegs - obviously the first comment was a typo.  In the original 'quote" it was meant to say "no one is saying CNU's out of conference schedule is weak".

The other comment you highlighted was accurate.  I would have thought that would have been understood because I'm  sure no one would consider a .400 winning percentage "strong".

why is that obvious?...record and schedule are two very different things, not often confused with one another - say what you mean, mean what you say

well...not entirely...while mt. union (specifically) isn't among the teams that cnu has played, i think the cnu fans have illustrated the high-quality nature of cnu's ooc schedule – the cnu ooc schedule is littered with numerous top 25 teams (and a few top 10 teams)...we (and i think i can speak for everyone on this board) assumed when you said "mt. unions", this was the type of competition you were referring to  - this seems like a logical assumption since you used the plural form - "mt. unions" - when everyone knows there is only one mt. union college playing division III football – if you meant to say cnu has not played mt. union, you should not have pluralized and said so directly

words are powerful when used properly

i will now refrain from defending cnu and commence rooting for a monarch win vs. the pride :)
