My previous statement about my brother may be incorrect.  At the team meeting yesterday, Coack Kelchner (a man I respected for giving me an opportunity to play college football) lost all of my respect, my families respect, and the majority of this year's teams respect by calling my brother out.  He pretty much called him soft and that the team would be "better off without him."  He thought that Matt should have played through a torn MCL and PCL (during rehab he tore his LCL as well).

Anybody who watched the game when he got hurt (or any other game he played in) only saw a tough, hard-nosed football player that would do anything to help his team win.  He separated his shoulder and broke a bone in his hand during the game, but never took himself out for one play.  On the play he tore up his knee, he did not lay on the field but tried to walk back to the huddle to finish the game. A back-up QB took himself out of a game because he bruised his back (He also missed the next game with a bruised back).

This is a kid who was voted by his teammates as a team captain this past year and is probably the most respected player on the team.  How does Coach K repay him?  He doesn't acknowledge him as the captain at any point during the season and bashes him in front of this team.  He gets blamed for a 5-5 season, when just a year ago he was the ONLY QB in CNU history to lead an undefeated conference season.  I respect all the players who told Matt that Coach K was wrong.  Tunde Ogun, who played through a knee injury this year and is an All-American RB, told Matt that he was the toughest football player he has ever played with at any level.

If Coach K doesn't appreciate the effort that Matt has contributed to CNU, then it's a slap in my face and every other player that has taken the field at CNU.  I'm astonished that some other coaches did not step up on Matt's behalf and if that is truly how the coaching staff feels then maybe they are "better off without him."

Congrats to NCWC and good luck this weekend.  I'm sure their head coach respects every player on his team and that trust in one another is what has earned that team a trip to the playoffs.  It is something that CNU used to have, and when it's lost you have to look at the top of the organization to find out what went wrong.

I forgot to mention that this soft kid broke his wrist as a Freshmen in the last regular season game against Ferrum and played through it.  Then a week later he played in a playoff game with a cast on his wrist and had 4 tackles, 1.5 for loss, and broke up 2 passes.  Not bad for somebody who got a screw in his wrist the following week because of the damage he caused by playing through it.

Send him to NCWC, Jordan graduates this year ;D

cnualum9, is the player you are talking about the QB who played against wesley this year.  if he is than the cnu coach is an idiot.  that kid was one of the toughest kids i have seen on a field in the last 6 years of watching d3 college ball.  he got the snot beat out of him, but stayed in the game.  i specifically remember commenting to cnu85 about how tough the kid was.  i coach middle school football and all i can hope for is that my kids play that tough.  if he has to rehab to come back and play one more year and that is how the coach feels about him, that is a shame and maybe cnu is on the way down.  good luck to him if he comes back.

wesleydad,

That's him.  Thank you for your kind words.  I appreciate it and I'm sure he does as well.  He was planning on coming back to play next year, but the end of season meeting didn't go that well yesterday so we shall see.  I still hope to see him play for 1 more year.

bishop64,

We bleed CNU blue, but good luck to the Bishops in the playoffs.

Thats OK Bishop, you got a freshman down there named Beecroft. His nickname in high school was
" Tebow". He got it for a reason, think you will be just fine.

the monarchs could use an all-region quality db...or a qb...we'll let him choose :)

except that the usasac makes players sit a year if they transfer in-conference...maybe odu could use an all-region quality db :)

CNUALUM9,

No doubt your brother is a tough son of a gun....do you think he could have misinterpreted what Coach K said during an emotional meeting after a very disappointing season?  By no means am I saying it didn't happen, but I guess I'm shocked that he would come across like that.

If what your brother told you and your family was accurate, I'd definitely understand if he didn't want to play next year, but I truly hope he will.

Sad News out of Ferrum today- Student was killed while doing a research project in a wooded area near the school (about 1 mile away) Hunter mistook her and two other students for a deer.

Allen C,

My sympathies to the families and all of the Ferrum community.

KEEPING IT REAL

Hey, that was dead wrong by the CNU coach.  One thing you don't do is call out a player in front of his teammates.  I would not be surprised if players transfer to NCW OR AVERETT, OR some other program.  This need to be looked into and not swept under the rug.  It was not his fault he got hurt.  Look at the play calling first. ??? >:(

that is crazy Allen!  I'm very sorry for the loss at ferrum.  It is tough when someone so young dies.  MC has seen that unfortunately in the recent years.  Our thoughts are with everyone there at Ferrum.

not sure if you missed the ferrum game or anything but there is a QB on the monarch team that is very capable of running a offense and scoring points. he has sat the bench his three years here already and when he got the chance to play he lit up the scoreboard and gave this team hope for a turn around season but the following week, he was on the bench and methodist was back to struggling on offense.

i'm very excited about the monarch qb's going into next year - i think preston has a chance to be very solid and murphy showed flashes, as well - he's certainly a big, athletic kid, but he's raw as a qb - preston came from a winning high school program (albeit one that ran the ball a lot) with a pretty good qb lineage (dustin johnson from salisbury university was a delmar product...those of us who have a little time invested in this conference and d3 football will remember that he was pretty good back in the day) - by all accounts preston is a high character kid, as well, and i think his teammates will have a lot of confidence in him based on his performance against ferrum...lots to look forward to for (and from) him if he is able to win the starting job this spring/summer...i'm certainly hoping he can make that leap to quality starting qb for the good of the team

i promise the qb isn't the sole reason the monarchs lost 7 games this year, though...in fact, i'm not sure that one of the monarch losses can be pinned on the qb alone, but i think you can reasonably say that the play that teague made on saturday assured a win (note, i did not say he was responsible for the win...the entire team was, but that play certainly sealed the victory)...i'm not sure any of the other monarch qb's could have made that play.

my original post was not a slap to the current mu qb's...rather, i was hoping that young mr. long would read that mu wants him as a qb and get lured in, transfer to mu and then allow us to convert him back to db...he's the real deal on the back end of a defense ;)

(of course, it was all in jest...no way that kid leaves school to sit a year at any usasac school)
