Boy could the Panthers use another Chris Warren. Those types don't come along too often. Vann should break Warren's APY record this year, but it will take Vann 4 years to do what Chris Warren did in 2.
BEWARE THE BLACK HATS!

KEEPING IT REAL

I have heard the same thing. There are more players who will not be back this year. If they don't change up their defense they will be in alot of trouble like last year. The offensive line will have to do better than last year if they want to move the ball. I always thought Leggister should move to MLB. Wesley will mop up CNU if they come out timid.

The first game is gonna be a killer.....#3 Wesley. Ugh! At least it's at home!

Hey CNU,

Is this just a 1 and 1 or is this gonna be a yearly thing vs. Wesley?

not sure. a lot depends on future conference alignments and the acfc. I'm clueless on what is going on there, but i would imagine both Salisbury and Wesley are tired of playing iin a conference without an AQ

Can't answer if its a yearly thing with Wesley - but (as I shift into my ACFC SID hat) after this year Salisbury is in the Empire 8 for football and Wesley goes independent as the conference dies

Thanks for the info. I'm sure it has been written on d3fotball.com. I'm way behind in my reading. (Sorry Pat)

Any team could.  lol  Well, he was definitely a DI athletic talent and, of course, a star in the NFL.  I can't remember the circumstances for his ouster in Charlottesville ... was it grades, discipline or both?  At any rate, he was just too much for most DIII defenses to stop.

No other RB comes close to Warren throughout the history of the USA-South/Dixie Conference.  But Vann is very good.

I hear Maryville will be providing a link on the internet to Media Day next Tuesday.  Should be a first-class production if Maryville's SID Eric Etchison has anything to do with it.

Below is the Coach's preseason poll that was released today.  Actually surprised that Averett was picked #2 - now to see if the boys can live up to the expectations.  Seems the coaches view the league in 2 tiers this year - NCWU, Averett & CNU as the teams that should challenge for the top spot.  With the 4 others tightly bunched.  Unfortunately for Methodist, everyone must have picked them last.

I watched the live feed.  Not much real info shared except if you wanted to know what happened at the dinner the previous night at the Maryville's coach's house.

2010 USA South Coaches Poll

I had difficulties at first with the feed.....I caught the last few coaches interviews. Anyone see what Kelchner had to say about CNU? He was probably tight lipped.

WFU34

Kelchner said little about CNU except singling out 2 individuals for their public service work and internships (1 guy interned with NASA this summer) and about the challenges they have at QB this year.  He did comment that your starting QB last year that got hurt (Long?) was attempting to be in the mix this year.

He went on a long sermon about "loyality", i.e., that this conference schools have shown towards its coaches.  You could say that was "coachspeak" to say - even if we have a lousy year, extend the contract.

The Maryville coach went on forever introducing/thanking virtually everyone associated with the program - probably spoke for 20 minutes or more with about 1 minute actually dedicated to football, the team and upcoming prospects.  He also killed time talking about his mother scolding him for chewing gum at his daughter's wedding.  He better win because stand-up comedy isn't in his future.

As earlier noted - no one really said anything.  Possibly only half the coaches were even asked questions and those that did ask a question won't be confused to be working for a New York media outlet.  The questions were so soft and hit so far out of the park you would have almost thought you were at a beer league softball game.

Pat Coleman

Well, honestly, having been at a lot of these media day events, the coaches say so little of note about their team that you have to ask some very basic questions just so you have enough to file your story.

One thing that I took note of (and posted on Twitter):

Ferrum coach Dave Davis says it's difficult to predict how D-III teams will finish, but in Kickoff 2009, we had them going 5-5, 4-3. They went 5-5, 3-4.
