AUPOP, which player is your son. Also, you mention a short trip, where do you live? We are from Suffolk and CNU is only a 30 minute ride for us. Danville is another story.

65 belongs to me, part of the o line group. He set out yesterday with a bad neck. Thought it was going to kill him not being able to play in that game. He's had it circled since camp. Several of his ex teamates and a bunch of kids he played against in HS are on the CNU squad. So not only was a special game because it was CNU, also had the summer braggin rights on the line. LOL

We are up in New Kent. Took about an hour to get to to CNU so felt a little more like a "home game' than away. Although 5000 CNU fans quickly reminded me otherwise. Still, was nice not to have that 3 1/2 hour drive home.

You know these teams very well and have a good nack for always being able to pick the right ones (even the out of conference games) I think you are a a fortune teller or run a casino. At any rate good job.

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

haven't seen the weekly awards yet, but if mayo isn't optw....dude scored 2 rushing td's, had 2 punt return td's and had 2 passing td's...pretty slick

Kickerdad I don't want to sound rude but from what experience are you drawing from? Maybe 1-3 is acceptable at AU but excuse me for not wanting that for my program. As far as going easy on them I guess they should be elated to find out from a poster that AU played a ton of backups on the O line and they still won on the road at Pomoco. I have criticized effort and talent but not once have I negatively singled out any one player. I am a sales manager and work as a financial adviser part time and I am always truthful with people. If you don't produce the company will replace you and if you are not responsible with your money then you will end up broke. So excuse me for not lying to a 1-3 team by telling them they have outstanding talent when they don't and telling them that they will come through soon when the season is half way over. If the grown men in that locker room cannot handle the truth about their play or talent level then I feel sorry for them when they graduate and are welcomed to the real world.

CNUsFinest54, My experience is 4 years high school varsity (all letter years), 4 years college (3 letter), 12 years coaching, (FYI, played all 8 years on the offense line at center and in high school both center and defense end). Two sons who played 4 years of high school football and lettered all 4 years and one son who played college football and lettered 4 years. (oldest son got hurt and unable to play college football) Retired from a major bank after 23 years and have returned to the financial world with a local credit union for the past 5 years. Sorry but that's all the experience I can muster.

I apoligize for my comments as it appears I have offended you and that was not my intention. NO I would not be happy if Averett was 1-3 (however I experienced an entire season when they lost every game and I made some negative comments that not only did the players see but so did the coaches and that didn't set well with either). Again, I apoligize for offending you, CNU fans, players, and coaches for saying they had talent and would come through soon.

CNUfinest54 - just get over it.  CNU lost last week to a better AU team and the score wasn't indictive of the play, it shouldn't have been that close. (AU missed 2 FG's and tied a fake inside the 10).  CNU had only 1 drive that amounted to anything all day.

CNU's program is what, all of 10 years old?  It's a nice program (I think the support, i.e., attendence at the home games is great), but the reality is that's only a nice program,   You make it sound like the CNU program is on a par with Alabama, USC or Ohio State from an historical/expectations perspective.  I'm not aware of a modern day Grantland Rice waxing poetic about "Four Horsemen" galloping out of the gray skies (at least not yet outside of the Newport News area).  Teams some times experience a down year(s), it happens.

Now I've read all the posts recently that point to CNU's new academic requirements as one of the contributing factors that is hindering its ability to recruit talented players (among other reasons).   I believe you stated you played during the "glory years" at CNU, which was prior to these new standards, so what conclusion would a rational person draw from that?

It's important to remember that when a paradigm shifts, prior achievements no longer matter.

WFU34 - Averett's scoring drives: a LONG 6 yd drive for a FG, another LONG 33 yd drive for a TD.

CNU had only 1 drive that amounted to anything all day.
Averett also only had 1 drive that amounted to anything: an 81 yd drive for a TD.

CNU also missed a short (I believe 25 yd) FG and an extra point that would have tied the game at 10.

I listened to the game(CNU vs. AU) this weekend and would have to say that both teams blew chances to score. I think CNU's D came through a few times in the clutch and they can take some good away from that. But as a whole you can't be happy at 1-3. No matter where you play. I have to agree with Finest. Football is a man's game and you have to be tough physically and mentally. If you can't take criticism then you're not cut out for it.

Was he being hard on the team? Yeah. Did they deserve it? Yeah.

I would also like to point out that we CNU supporters are quick to tout our team for good play and accomplishments. But we are also quick to call out our shortcomings.

No men's or women's soccer.

Would probably need to raise academic standards as well.

True. Looked at SCHEV stats last night...they have transfer students coming in with an average GPA of 1.82

Wow - I didn't read into that any inference to Alabama or OSU. I think I read into that AU was the better team and that is not acceptable to 54.  He's right - don't lie to a 1-3 team. Tell it like it is.

Also - I don't think 54 was upset with Kickerdad's comments. I think he was just trying to point out that you gotta man up and tell it like it is, don't sugar coat anything 'cuz the world once you graduate is not going to get any easier. %$ just wants his team to win and have some pride! That's all.
