MU missed FG wide left ... SU wins!

Wild game.

narch

once again fg's cost the monarchs the game...if the mu coaching staff had elected for a fg earlier in the 4th when they had a drive stall inside the 10, perhaps that attempt from mosko would have been a game winning attempt

murphy had a pretty special game...240 yards and 2 td's through the air and 75 yards on the ground in a losing effort...this team needs to learn how to finish!

Classy post, Bishop64....nice way to celebrate CNU's 100th game.

GO CAPS!

Bishop64

To the CNU fan I talked with at half time yesterday, if you post on this site, I would like to tell you that I enjoyed meeting you and talking about the two programs. Sorry we did not exchange names. Maybe we can the next time around. :)
The only easy day was yesterday

ProudFightingScot

Haven't posted in a while due to new job, but a big congrats to the Fighting Scots on their win over #1 Averett on Saturday.  Very exciting game to watch on video stream.   Freshman QB Williams is maturing every game.  3 TD passes & no Int's.  Offensive line probably played their best game of season & play calling was very good.  Still the "O" has to improve their short yardage offense.  Keep getting stuffed on 3rd & 1.

Defense really held Averett's high powered offense in check for most of the game.  Great job by the "D" with 2 red zone stops in the 4th quarter.  Thought the defensive line stood out by putting alot of pressure on Averett's 2 QB's.  DB Crowell made several big pass breakups in 4th quarter.

Not noticed in newspaper accounts was the performance by Punter Sandmeyer who put 3 punts inside Averett's 15 yard line....

Enjoy the win, but we need to get ready for NCW who will probably be fired up after losing to CNU on Saturday.

HELP WANTED:

Looking for Pollsters for a "soon to be unveiled" D3 TOP 25 FAN POLL.

Publishing site: www.uwwfootball.blogspot.com

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Commit to submit a ballot ranking the D3 Teams 1-25 by stated deadline. I'm thinking that will be midnight on Mondays.
2. Research the teams and try to be as unbiased as possible in ranking them.
3. Think through your own philosophy as to how much to weigh previous ranking, won/loss record, your sense as to who would win head to head, national performances in recent years, quality wins, and whatever reasonable criteria you care to choose.
4. Submit a ballot EVERY WEEK by the deadline. Missing a deadline will be cause to forfeit your spot. Create and submit your ballot BEFORE viewing the D3football.com poll. You can look at previous weeks polls to get you started if you are having a hard time filling out the last few slots.

PURPOSE OF POLL

This poll is to promote meaningful and fun discussion on d3boards.com.  It is simply something that will be fun to contrast with D3football.com's poll. D3football.com's poll is the one legitimate poll we have in D3 football in my opinion.  This poll is not even intended to become #2. I just think it would be an interesting point of comparison and discussion.

HOW TO APPLY

Send me a private message. In your message indicate:
1. you are applying to be a pollster.
2. What team/conference you follow.
3. Whether you can submit a poll as early as this Thursday. (That is not mandatory, if everyone can we may do one this week).

WHO WILL BE CHOSEN?

The first 25 respondents will be our initial group of pollsters.  This group will remain the D3 FOOTBALL FAN POLL TOP 25 pollsters unless they resign their position or miss a deadline.  Pollsters, I will never post your names on the boards.  If you choose to, that is fine. If you are beyond the first 25 responses, your name will be placed on a "waiting list".  If there are fewer than 25 respondents by midnight on Wednesday, we will go with what we have and continue to have "open" slots to be filled.

Remember FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED!  ;)

There you go captains! It ain't pretty but a win is a win. Way to man up and get it done. Who said a lil criticism was a bad thing? Some say we are being "too hard" on the boys. I say we are putting a fire under their asses. Keep it up. We're still in this fight. Bring that fire back to POMOCO next week.

Averett still controls their own post season fate. Win out and they're in. It's gonna be tough with 3 of 4 games on the road and the final one against the NCWC Bishops.

Maybe the most exciting season in years.

SU's defense playing with a lot of confidence now.

GETTING INTO THE ACT
: via www.nvdaily.com

"I think everyone's real confident," SU's Larry Gibbs said. "And we're at an all-time high as far as, defensively, we're almost to our potential.

"We're getting a lot better and we know we can stop anybody in the conference."

Hi -- can you tell us where you got that from? If it's a newspaper, I need you to post a link and then I need to edit your copy/paste down to preserve their copyright.

CNU85

It will be interesting to see the new look CNU offense in person tomorrow. A couple Freshmen looked like they stepped up. It will be bittersweet not seeing Matt Long in uniform ever again. Also I understand Chris Nickel's career is over as well (I think I read that somewhere). My hat is off to those guys. Great job! Not sure who will start at QB, I haven't heard anything. But I would give the Freshman Lyn Garner the nod. He won last week after Long had to end his career and WoMo was unable to play.

Interesting enough, the average attendance at CNU home games is second highest in history and we haven't had homecoming weekend yet. This week will be light as students are on fall break.

Looking forward to a fun day. We need our first home win!

I don't pick them, but Its been noted before that either NCW plays much better against MC home rather than in Maryville or the Scots don't make the trip to NCW very well. The games at NCW have been blowout wins by the Bishops while the matter has gone to the fourth quarter or four overtimes at MC

This thing is as wide open as it gets this year and Im not sure if its parity or maybe universal lack of consistency is a form of parity. I would think Saturday would help settle some things out and provide bit of separation but another upset and we might start scratching our heads on tie breakers.

NOTES: Mc- NCW advance available Saturday at thedailytimes.com/sports ... watch the game on knoxivi.com (which works ok on a computer but has been slow occasionally on the droid or iphone, maybe they'll get a lower res no sound version for phone use soon) ... belated congrats to Coach davis on battle of the retirees victory ... Shenandoah won at MC not from defending the pass but by eating the clock running the ball very well, MC's freshman Williams went 13-for-17 for 125 yards with no picks against SU, while 17-of-31 with 4 picks against Methodist ... Ierulli compared Averett's situation "a trap game' to that of South Carolina later Sat night, coming off big win and then getting a team who you know has potential but doesnt have anything on tape you can show your players to prove that -- mainly because the offensive line starters have really only been practicing together as a whole since MU loss , due to injuries, some going back to camp. ... Enjoy your game wheverver you are and whoever you're playing.

Final, Averett 7 Methodist 3.  Obviously, a defensive struggle although Averett knelt it down to finish the game at the Monarchs' one.
0-0 at the half.

narch

the monarchs literally let one slip through their fingers today...a dropped td that turned into a missed fg (the receiver must have been shocked to be all alone in the endzone), at least 3 drive-ending drops by wr's, a fumble that killed a drive - not to mention the fact that the monarchs were 1-4 in the red zone and special teams continuously gave the cougars a short field (like on the 18 yard td drive)

of course, au had it's share of miscues, as well...a pick thrown in monarch territory, a kick return called back by a (blatant) hold and 3 missed fg's of their own, but this game was the monarchs to win

a golden opportunity to win a homecoming game in front of a nice crowd and against an upper-tier conference team was not to be, despite numerous opportunities...as i've said, this team needs to learn how to finish...if they can, they'll win a game or two more this season

Narch,

Think you could have sustituted Cougars for Monarchs and you still would have been right. Both teams continuosly shot themselves in the foot with silly penalties and missed chances. The AU offense has been sputtering lately and not sure what has happened. Dont know if its lack of execution on thier part or great prep and execution by the opposing defenses, either way they need to get back to thier early season form  to make a run at the tittle.

Extremely hard hiting game. the Qb for Methodist is tuff as nails, young man took a beating but kept bouncing back. Monarch D laid out a few good ones of thier own. I'd said both teams knew they had been in a battle when it was over.

Great hospitality by the Methodist crowd. Got to sample some Monarch cooking in the parking lot before the game, had Monarchs offering us food as soon as we got out of the car. guess we looked hungry. After baking in the stands the first half we moved up the hill to the shade. One Monarch supporter surrender his lawn chair to my wife for the entire secound half. She has more steel in her back than our car so needless to say we were very appreciative. Looking forward to coming back to MU for our senior season.

Best of luck the rest of the way.

i think the monarch feet have more holes in them...the dropped td pass was especially costly, but you're right...nobody grabbed that game by the horns

glad to hear the monarch fans treated you right...i've always worried about the visiting fans being on the same side, and to be honest, it's the au game i worry about most...the averett fans tend to be more vocal than some others (and i mean that in a positive way)...always seems like a recipe for disaster, but thankfully, it hasn't been to this point
