I've seen Guilford play both Greensboro and Averett.  I think Averett is the better team, but, to paraphrase the old saying, "on any given Saturday."  Greensboro may beat Averett tomorrow, but I'm not really seeing it.

Heading out this morning to Rocky Mount NC. Looking to meet up with some old friends from Ferrum, and to hopefully see Ferrum go to 2-0 in the conference. Should be a great game- Go Panthers!

I should hope so against the back ups! Good luck this week!

looks like the mu/m'ville game was another classic in the series - unfortunately, the monarchs were on the short-end of the score

reading the game recap, it seems like the monarchs shot themselves in the foot with a number of costly penalties and a turnover of a turnover (the monarchs intercepted a pass in the endzone which they fumbled...and the fumble was recovered for a m'ville td) - the monarchs had a number of opportunities inside the m'ville red zone, and squandered those chances

frosh max reber appears to have played a solid game at qb, throwing for 3 td's...

Wow, just wow.

Up 20 - 0 with 7 minutes left in the 4th. Shenandoah mounts a drive. TD! 20-7. We go back to our patented "blow the lead" offense. A quick 3 and out and SU has the ball on their way to another TD. 20-14. So we get wild on our next 3rd down and throw an out. Why are we passing to the sideline when we want to run the clock anyway? Well, you can guess the rest. Picked off and returned almost all the way. Finally with 17 tics to go, TD SU. 20-20 with XP pending. That's when I stepped in. I singlehandedly made the kicker miss. Pretty sure I blew some vocal cords. So, we manage to make it to OT. A tipped pass find our player's hands for a TD. SU goes 4 and out. Game over. 27-20. wow.

However, for 50 minutes CNU DOMINATED Shenandoah. I think they may have had 3 first downs all game. Serious defense. Very impressed. But champions go for the kill when they have the chance. Is this team good enough to be champs? The jury is still out.

Agreed, wow.

And are we good enough to be champs?  Of the USAC, perhaps.

This was the typical 4Q meltdown we've come to expect in Newport News.  No lead is safe with even single tick left on the click.

It's such a shame; our defense is so solid for 50 minutes, but they just can't seem to hold on for the last few drives.  I can't figure it out.  Maybe our pass-d is just weaker and nobody exploits it until the very end out of necessity, or maybe it just takes their QB that long to read it, and we fail to switch things up once he does.

One thing is for sure: CNU needs to ramp it up for the 4th quarter, or I'm going to have a heart attack before basketball season's opening tip.

Ferrum in a methodical way, seemed to wear down NCW, and prevailed with a 21-10 win. Mayo had a punt return of 78 yards for a score. After 4 of their first five games on the road, Ferrum returns home to take on a Methodist team that to me is better than they are so far showing. This second half should be fun.

Congrats go to Ferrum....Between a strong ,stiff, defense and the Bishops kicking themselves in the foot with penalties at the wrong time, it proved to be too much for the boys. All in all, it was a well fought game and one that any fan could really enjoy. Strong hitting on both sides of the ball. The 78 yd. punt return proved to be the turning point (just my opinion). No doubt, Ferrum is stong and future oponents should be aware, you can not make mistakes against them and expect to win. Congrats to the boys from Ferrum.  :)

CNU's new D-Coordinator grew up in Winchester.  How 'bout that.
