tough loss for the monarchs, today...leading 20-10 at halftime, they were shut out in the second half and allowed ehc 24 points

reber had a big game through the air, throwing for 295 yards and 2 tds (no int's) on a 22-38 night, and he chipped in 49 rushing yards, to boot

mu held ehc to just 2.6 ypc, but ehc ran it 31 times and threw it 51 times for 364 yards...and mu had 16 penalties for 134 (vs. 5/44 for ehc)...you can't give a quality team that many free yards on the road and expect to win...this young team needs to learn how to play aggressively without drawing flags, and they need to close out games

Penalties hurt the Monarchs significantly in the 2nd half.  It seemed as though EHC made good adjustments throwing the underneath crossing patterns in the 2nd half against the pass rush.  From the stands it looked like Methodist was blitzing every play.  Defense tightened up and quit giving up the big play(except the TD called back for holding).

You guys have a lot of speed on offense.  Good luck the rest of the year.

I am waiting to see the stats from this game, but unofficially the Pride put up 526 yards!! Only allowing 391.  Throndset is going to have many great games in his career. I think I speak for many alumni/alumnae, we are very happy to see Young in as head coach.

I think I probably have to retire from d3boards, I have a job that will/is probably a conflict of interest.  I can probably stick around for football season, but I probably will not be around for basketball season. Roll Pride!!

I'll be sorry to see you go, but congratulations on the job.

Great game at CNU last night!! Weather was perfect, atmosphere was amazing. The second largest crowd in CNU history - 6,137.....4 people shy of the record set last year. (For you HSC fans....that equates to 17,000 in attendance the way you count).

Halftime show had fireworks while the marching band played the fight song.

And the game was incredible....CNU kept pulling away and Ferrum never quit and kept coming back. Ferrum is a good team. Kudos for playing to the last second and fighting all the way. It would have been easy to quit down 38-17.

CNU O-line dominated. Their 160 lb running back was running over Ferrum's D linemen twice his size.

And the CNU coaching preparation was the best I have seen. CNU has 3 QB's who all started at some point last year when we ran the table in conference play. So last night with Edwards not 100% I was expecting either Garner or Montsavais. CNU opens with Morrast in Wildcat formation. Ok, nice switch up. But wait - Morrast played QB the ENTIRE game (missed one play due to losing his helmet). He had 5 touchdowns. 2 rushing and three in the air! He was CNU's leading rusher going into the game. He looked poised, made a few "rookie" mistakes. But he had to have played QB in high school. CNU had almost 450 yards of offense.

It will be interesting to see the game plan next week.

Allen C

Well that was a good game, but being a Ferrum fan, I was hoping for a different outcome. Two fumbles in the first half that resulted in CNU TD's, too many penalties, and the inability to stop CNU's offense really made it frustrating. Ferrum did give a great effort in coming from 14 pts. down to tie it in the first half, and closing a 21 point deficit to 7 points...If Ferrum's last kickoff had not gone out of bounds...and I am not so sure it did, we may have been in a position to force OT.
Brubaker # 10 for Ferrum had over 100 yards rushing, and over 100 receiving. Reynolds had a really good game too, but all in all, there seems to be a talent gap that Ferrum has not overcome....not yet anyway!  Congrats Captains.

BEWARE THE BLACK HATS!

Finally a Win..........congrats - now lets see if they can build off it.

i'm looking forward to mu/m'ville this weekend...this has been a fun series (2008 aside) with all but one of the games (2008) being decided by 6 or fewer points and the average margin of victory (2008 aside) being just over 3 points...the 2009 game went to 4 ot's - in the 7 games since 2005, mu has 3 wins and m'ville has 4, so i'm expecting a tight game...of course, i probably said the same thing in 2008 :)

here is what is most intriguing (statistically) about the match-up this year:

mu ranks 2nd in the usasac in rushing at 217 ypg and has thrown 11 td's vs. just 3 ints...but m'ville ranks 1st in the usasac vs. the pass, giving up just 139.8 ypg and intercepting 4 passes to go with 6 sacks...

m'ville ranks 1st in the usasac in passing at 225.4 ypg and has 11 rusing td's...but mu ranks 1st in the usasac vs. the run, giving up just 73 ypg and 6 tds...

classic case of strength vs. strength

if one team has to win "left handed", who has the advantage?

m'ville ranks 6th in the usasac in passing yardage at 161.2 ypg with 8 td's and 8 ints...the monarchs give up 315 yards per game through the air, but they've intercepted 8 passes and they have 16 sacks...can m'ville protect the ball and qb when they decide to pass?

mu ranks 6th in the usasac in rushing yardage at 119 ypg and they've scored 6 tds...m'ville gives up over 200 ypg rushing, but they've forced 6 fumbles...can the monarchs run it enough to keep m'ville on their toes in pass defense?

i don't have the answers, but i look forward to seeing what unfolds on Saturday!

as an aside, since this series was renewed in 2005, the road team won the first 4 games and the home team has won the last 3...i'm hoping the pattern will hold true for exactly one more year

Murrville's Coach Rader will light it up, no doubt.

Narch asks, "if one team has to win "left handed", who has the advantage?"

One of murville's qb's is in fact left handed....

MU literally kicks themselves in the backside missing 3 xps and a 26 yd fg in a 28-24 loss - 4 toys which all led to MVC pts didn't help - MVC had around 80 yds rushing...MU threw for 275+ - more later....
