No need to congratulate yourself. All of your posts come from the same IP addresses as PFS posts. If it were just one IP address I could write it off as them all coming from one Maryville campus proxy but they're both from two unrelated IPs, as if one were at work and one at home.

Ummm... try again (not the same person), but i do like new posters getting involved in discussions.  But this is like beating a dead horse at this point...

The connection is pretty clear. Same office IP, same house IP. There are many people who use the office IP, since it seems to be an on-campus proxy, but only two posters use the cable modem, one of whom just conveniently appeared in the past two weeks.

It seems like a fairly clear violation of the TOS. If you need to create another poster to back up your viewpoint then there's a problem.

I don't know what to tell you then.  All I know is this is my only account I use.  You can believe what you want to.  Sorry I have seemed to strike a cord with you by disagreeing on this subject with you.

More sobering news from Greensboro College, as the Board of Trustees puts the entire campus and the majority of its endowment as collateral to cover loans:

Capable leadership can save Greensboro.

Contingency plans for the USA South must include affiliation of the GSAC men into the conference.

i asked some folks at Huntingdon  about the potential for the merger (who should really know- not at all like me)

i got an email back thursday that the merger of the 2 conferences was still very possible, and negotiations are ongoing

so .... it might happen, hopefully

Thanks for the update.  (Hope the hip is working better each day.)

I really hope that they preserve the GSAC Women as an intact and complete conference.  Doubling the AQ's for women in that part of the country means more chances to host a post-season game, rather than being shipped somewhere else!

Let the men affiliate.

I agree, Ralph.  In addition to its current students, faculty and staff, Greensboro College is too important to the city, to the Methodist church and to its alumni.  I don't think they'll let it fail, especially after 171 years.   Colleges do go under from time to time, however.  If you've ever driven I-40 in western NC, you see the exit signs for Rutherford College, now just a community sans college.  Antioch in Ohio is restructuring and former Seattle Seahawks QB Dave Krieg played at the now defunct Milton College.

I think what's most distrubing about Greensboro, though, is the consistent sentiment from everyone that they didn't know it was this bad.  This speaks volumes about colleges allowing participatory decision-making and financial transparency.  I understand how the students, faculty and alumni didn't know, but how does this escape the Board of Trustees?

Apparently Williams did a very good job of hiding the problems and managed to stack the Board with sympathetic minds.

That question is being addressed by the new IRS Form 990, which will require the Board of Trustees to sign off on all activities of the college.  Some have likened it to a "Sarbanes-Oxley" for not-for-profits.

Again another asute observation by Hasa and Ralph(as usual).

Hasanova; we have to ask the question "que bono" or who benefits (because of my spelling). Somebody is about to take a walk with a parachute meant for retirement. "board of trustees" Shiiiiiiiiiiii$.

The first thing to go will be sports then somebody will walk. When you find out where the trail leads to who will benefit with the fall of the school then you will know when and how long G-Boro has.

Perhaps they will save it but with the state of government (liken to Rome 3rd-4th century when the main effort was for the Emperor to survive not to keep the empire intact) I am more pessimistic these days....

On a lighter note GC-Q has a very nice field
Never shall I leave a fallen comrade

abnrgr, thanks and good to hear from you!  From what I hear inside the Greensboro College community, Williams saw what was happening at Elon, High Point and Guilford and bit off more than he could chew in an effort to keep up with the Joneses.  He was overly optimistic about enrollment and the economy and, when they both went down at the same time, the house of cards fell apart.

I think GCP will survive, albeit perhaps not in the same way it looks now.  I think they'll have to sell the property they bought for a sports complex, sell the YMCA property, sell the President's residence (anyone familiar with Greensboro's Irving Park neigborhood knows it's expensive real estate), reduce the number of sports teams they field and perhaps eliminate the 3 or 4 graduate programs they try to support.  To me, their core is not graduate school - it's liberal arts for undergrads.

PS  Armfield Stadium at GCQ is super.  I can't wait for the first home game on Sept. 19!

if they do fold.  do i still have to pay my loans back?  if they do fold.  how do i get a transcript?

If we socialize health care then we should make it mandatory for everyone to go to a state college.  im open for that.  it eliminates the private public debate on this board.

Roll Pride If we still have a team!

Hey moshergc9.  Don't sweat it just yet.   First, I think Greensboro will weather this storm - if you look up the history of the college, there were other low points, most notably about a 100 years ago.  Other scenarios might be for the college to merge with another (look up the history of NC's Brevard College) or be reincarnated under a different affiliation (Southern Virginia, for example).  In both these cases, a student's records were preserved (good news) and I guess their loans were still expected to be repaid (bad news).  :)

I was talking to a guy from Guilford the other day and they're still thinking the Soup Bowl will be played on Sept 5th, although this will be the 13th time!  Hopefully, that's not an omen!

Wow, I guess I need to check the website everyday.  Been enjoying the day in ATL before heading back to Maryville.  Saw all the posts about me and PFS and it was funny that we were said to be the same person. This is the final thing I will say on the subject. I can assure you we aren't and I look forward to the upcoming season.

Hope everything works out for Greensboro because it will put the conference in a tough situation with Shenandoah leaving.   My question is they have been talking about leaving the USA-South for the past 2 years and plans to leave in 2011.  If Huntindon and LaGrange joins next season, why don't the commish just tells Shenandoah to his the road after 2010.  I know there is a 2 year wait period, but they have made it clear they don't want to be in our conference.  Show them the door on our terms, not theirs.
