I think as long as Greensboro has some sort of sound business plan, they will be OK to recover.  Losing them would definitely be a blow to the conference.
Mosh, I think you would have to pay the loan back anyway because I know with my loan I consolidated it thus another company (not the school) owns the debt :(  That's who i pay...  How bout a bail out on all college student loans (since we seem to be giving those out).  Just kidding of course, but really could we...

Simply as point of reference to conference media day, the attendance by media began dropping when USAC began webcasting the event.
"hello to you all folks in France watching today" is how I think Sypult greeted that change. 8)

At CNU (2006 season) there were between 10-15 working media (depends if you want to count outlets or bodies, some radio had two people present)
At Methodist (2007 season) the number dropped with web cast but very few of the Va. schools had any media make the trip because papers were cutting back travel budgets
At Averett (2008 season) media fit at one table and I think there were 6-7

My understanding was unofficially the media day was supposed to rotate being one year in NC the next in Va.

Averett is a middle ground as much as there is such an animal in the USAC. It would just be easier if an interstate went directly there from anywhere else. Its a hell of a drive off of 95 or 85 coming south and a goat path of a road from 81. Its not too bad going through Greensboro and heading north but thats only convenient for the NC schools and MC.

If cost is the real issue then perhaps a media conference call as done weekly by the SEC and ACC for football and basketball would be an option to consider for press to have q and a time with all the coaches. The prepared statements can be recorded and emailed to the conference office and assembled there as the conference's monthly webcasts are assembled already.

Regradless its a decided issue for Aug 3, 2009. If a member school, a potential member school, Dollywood, Busch Gardens, or even that really fun truck stop at exit 290 on I-81 wants to show up and make a presentation to sway the SIDs -- whose vote is merely a recommendation to the ADs on the matter -- about hosting 2010 then that might even add some spice two weeks from now. ;D

Here is a link courtesy of www.suhornets.com to the Winchester Stars article the other day talking about some local players the Hornets will have this season. http://www.winchesterstar.com/showarticle_new.php?sID=5&foldername=20090718&file=name_article.html  Some of the big names are LB Danny Cooper who was a first team All NW District and led the area with 135 tackles. Nate White a QB who threw for 1,339 yds and 15 TD's and only 6 interceptions last year. This is the one I'm really excited seeing play at Shentel this year. His name is Allen Silver. He was selected as an all district first team defensive end but is going to play running back at SU. He averaged 6.7 yds per carry and had 377 yds as a full back last year. Playing defense or running back it seems the Hornets cant go wrong with this guy. With the local players choosing SU I hope this not only brings a few more wins to the team but also some more people in the stands as well. GO HORNETS!!

I traveled Rte. 58 for 4 years and haven't heard it described any better. The part referred to as "Goat Path" that is great. I cursed that piece of road every time we had to travel to Ferrum. (which I thought was at the end of the world and then I had to make a left turn). Keep in mind years ago Rte. 58 was called "Suicide Strip" because it was only one lane in each direction and heavily traveled by truckers. Only road I found to be worse was the road from Gatlinburg, TN to Maryville. I should have stayed on the interstate. All the other schools in the USA South are accessible by interstate and have nice roads. (Maryville is nice if you follow the main road) Hopefully one day the state of Virginia will figure out Danville needs some asphalt running through East to West. No problem North to South, but going East and West will put a hurtin on your nerves.

Don't get me wrong, it's a nice drive from the East Coast to Danville on Rte. 58, but don't oversteer left or right. There isn't any shoulder to catch you much less change a tire on. Once you leave don't plan on a bathroom stop until you hit South Boston (30 minutes from Danville) unless you like woods and ticks.

Having driven Hwy 58 many times anywhere from Bristol to the coast, it (literally) has its ups and downs!  When it became a 4-lane, especially west of Danville to Martinsville and Stuart, they left the original 2-lane intact, which means the highway in one direction follows every hill contour while the two (more modern) lanes in the opposite direction  are flatter where the VaDOT smoothed out the peaks and valleys - weird!

MC really should put a huge note up for the NC schools fans warning them to not go through the park, via Gatlinburg and Townsend on 321 or take the Dragon from Fontana. Its always best to stay on I- 40 to downtown Knoxville and take either Alcoa Hwy or Pelissippi when coming in from any of the conference schools in NC.

Isn't the Dragon the highway on the NC/TN border that all the recreational motorcyclists love?

Yep  average about one serious motorcycle wreck a week out there in summer or on the bottom stretch of calderwood. Forgot which tam it was last season that someone had told the fam it was shorter to come that way and they were less than thrilled with that recommendation when they arrived. They left via Knoxville ;D

If anyone has a XBOX 360 OR PS3, YOU CAN DOWNLOAD D3 FOOTBALL TEAMS WITH THEIR NAME.  CNU 2008 BEAT MT. UNION 2008 33-31.

In your wildest dreams.

Pat Coleman

I think if CNU finds itself playing Mount Union it will find it's a bit different than playing Ferrum or North Carolina Wesleyan.

Maybe so, but I feel if CNU had a quaterback like Mt. Union has or Washington & Jefferson it wouldn't be no cake walk.
I'm absolutely sure your last "sentence" isn't representative of most football fans, but without double negatives, "quaterbacks" and "cake walks", most colleges "wouldn't need no" English Department either.  :)

PS Realistically, Mt. Union would probably win by at least 31-35 points.

CNU85

I'd have to agree that CNU could not beat Mt Union today. But hey, that's why they play the game. I'd love to see a game against the mighty Purple Raiders.

Ogun2k - if your disclaimer is that CNU could do it with a QB....who did you have at QB on your xbox? Newport News' own Michael Vick?  ;D

I see guys on here are full of jokes.  I guess i'll be joking and laughing 10/24/2009 on your home side.  I'll be the one with a no.23 jersey on.  Can't miss me.  HA HA HA!!!

So, why did you pick Greensboro on 10/24 of all teams to call out and trash talk about?

I'd recommend aiming higher than that this season.  :D

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

Not picking on Greensboro, Hasanova has a slick mouth or whatever his name is.

Well, hasanova is a Guilford grad, not Greensboro...just fyi. I'm fairly certain he won't be at the 10/24 CNU game you referenced.  :)

Hasa is pretty well known around these parts, so you may just have to get to know him a little bit to understand his banter.
