That's cool.  He's cool with me.
I see some folks have already chimed in while I was away.  :)

Trust me, OGUN2K, I follow CNU and I know who he is - in fact, I gave the Captains quite a few votes in the South Region Top 10 Poll last fall.  Good luck to him in Greensboro on Oct. 24 against the Pride, but, as Ryan Tipps well knows, I'll probably be across town watching another team play W&L.

Here's the way I see it:  I was not a very good football player and, at this point in my life, I never will be.  I was, however, a pretty good writer who worked hard (and still does!) every day to be better.  Number 23, on the other hand, is a great football player and, I hope, also a great student!  So, the way I see it, that puts him one up on me.  Remember, most of us who played college sports are far more likely to earn a living Monday through Friday than on Sunday.  I hope he'll be the exception.  :)

You'll always be cool with me!

I'd have to agree that CNU could not beat Mt Union today. But hey, that's why they play the game. I'd love to see a game against the mighty Purple Raiders.

Ogun2k - if your disclaimer is that CNU could do it with a QB....who did you have at QB on your xbox? Newport News' own Michael Vick?  ;D
I'd love to see that game also.  In my opinion, CNU would fair better than Averett a few years ago and RMC last fall, but still fall by a wide margin.  It would, however, be a barometer of where the Captains stand on a national stage - and sometimes that's important when you're trying to build a program.

If the NFL Commissioner doesn't come through on Vick, maybe he'll be free for xBox.  Does he still have college eligibility?  :)

Hey this is not 23 from CNU, I'm his uncle. I JUST LOVE FOOTBALL.  NO HARM NO FOWL.  I HAVE PLAYED COLLEGE BALL AS WELL FOR DIV 2 VA. STATE FROM 88-92.  JUST ITCHING FOR THE SEASON TO START.
Hey, OGUN2K.  Someone else just told me you're 23's uncle and not 23 himself, so I apologize for the mistake.  I certainly appreciate your love for football and your passion for your nephew's abilities - which are considerable!  I've lived vicariously through my sons and nephews, one of which won a North Carolina state championship and played DII hoops, so I completely understand the enthusiasm.  I know about Va State as well.  I resided in Durham for 16 years where I lived and worked with CIAA grads from NCCU, Shaw, St. Aug, Fayetteville State, WSSU, ECSU, Virginia Union and others.  Obviously, the CIAA and the NCCU Eagles are a big part of the Durham community.

I wholeheartedly agree, I'm also ready for the season to begin.  Enjoy the games!

I knew some little birdie would spot this ... and cry foul!  I'm not one bit surprised to see it's eagle eye narch!  I'd already decided to let this one fly.  :)

narch, a scheduling conflict may keep me from traveling to Fayetteville on Sept. 12.  What are the Monarchs going to look like this fall?

Perhaps rather than the typical 'foul' definition meaning nobody hurt, then no penalty this is the lesser known agricultural definition in which you don't get to eat the chicken unless you cut its head off first. ::)

But that's just a guess.

But while we're on guessing as a topic (such a smooth transition here) I'd like to see some guesses as to how the current USAC proposal would work for football in 2011 should it be accepted. It would basically make the GSAC men's team a division of the USA South, and the merits of that for basketball, baseball and soccer tourneys (each 'division'  seeds it teams with no cross play required or counting toward standings, can be handled on other boards) but what makes sense for football?

If no one leaves you have a 10 team conference, if SU goes - which to take place by 2011 they better be putting the required 1-year notice in to the conference soon. Same case for any CHNU move 1-year notice. What do you do with a 10-team USA South for at last that first year.

Any guesses?

I'm ignorant on this....how can you have an AQ with 2 divisions of 5 teams in each division? doesn't make sense to me....what are the teams for the football division?

I'm pretty sure CNU is scheduled to play at Greensboro on Oct. 24.  You heard it here first!

moshergc9

Yeah, ok...you guys have the odds.  This could be the year though!

GC lays off  Athletic Director.

GC releases incoming players names.  Alot of skill guys, not enough ol-dl.

I hope they retain the core they had from last year and retain most of these freshman or we are in trouble.

mosh, I'm disappointed to hear about Kim Strable ... he's been there 20 years!  He's also President of the USA South Conference.  I know the softball coach already took another job plus the men's basketball coach had his name in the final 10 at DII West Florida.
