Final

E&H scored a TD with .14 seconds left.

Really good game. Ferrum was down 17-7 in the fourth, and came back to lead with just over 2 mins to go, 21-17. E&H scored the final TD with .14 secs left.

Any info on the Huntingdon/Maryville Game?

Huntingdon ran out to a 21-3 lead in the first quarter but Maryville did a good job to stop the momentum. Maryville dominated the time of possession after that but Huntingdon's defense came up with the big plays when they had to. Huntingdon's defense did a great job considering how much they were on the field in the second and third qtrs.
Good win for Huntingdon to start the season.

Go Hawks!!

Yikes. Just saw the box score. I knew the time of possession was pretty big in Maryville's favor but this is crazy. It doesn't even add up to 60 minutes so I don't know where the other couple of minutes would go. Maryville 41:58 Huntingdon 16:07. Maryville 104 offensive plays - Huntingdon 57.

tough day for the monarchs...they led 21-7 at one point in the first half, and looked to be in control but campbell used huge plays in the first half and a HUGE o-line in the second half to cruise to an easy win, 48-28 - the campbell o-line is probably the biggest mu will see for the next 10 years...one tackle was 6'9", 340 and the other was 6'2", 320 and they averaged 300 lbs...on a hot day, they just ground mu into submission in the second half...to say the monarchs young secondary struggled mightily in the first half would be an understatement

Victory!

Congrats to the Greensboro College Football Team.

Rival week.  and win.

I saw a few series online.  Didnt look great minus a big pass play before the half. Questionable call to not take the 3 points (unless greensboro cant kick?) before the half.

Just glad to see a win.

MU came out looking strong.  Ran the ball at will.  Gave up some  big plays in the secondary and made a huge mistake on the ko recieving team.  Came out in the second half and abandoned the running game.  The defense held up for a long time but were clearly undesized against 5 300+ lineman.  I was hoping to see something new on defense with the new coordinator but it was basically the same as it has been.  No blitz packages, no linebacker support, no stunts.  Just heads up packages that were real easy to play against.  The d-line took on double team after double team with no help.  The secondary was burnt for 3 long touchdowns and looked confused most of the day.  Offense was steady until they got behind and couldn't play catch up.  CU looked way better than last year and they deserve credit for contolling the game after being givn the lead.  Better luck next week.

Congratulations to GCP, moshergc9.  I was there and it was hot!  As usual, the game wasn't settled until the last 30 seconds with GCQ down to the one - costly penalty knocked them back to the 11 and then an incomplete pass.  Scoreless at the half, which is a big change from the last few seasons!  Not taking a FG opportunity was odd to me too, but then I don't know GCP's kicking situation.  Guilford made three costly turnovers, two of which led to both Greensboro scores.  Anyway, series is now 7-6, barely favoring the Quakers.

On another note, wish this game had been played at night - better atmosphere and not as hot.  Also, nice of the Pride to feature Mike Caparaso on the program cover, but too bad they misspelled his name.  He deserved better.  :(

musupporter...welcome to the boards...great snapshot of the game, especially as it relates to mu abandoning the running game...scales had 7 carries for 85 yards in the first half...and ended the game with 7 carries for 85 yards...he didn't touch the ball in the 2nd half

i think a real turning point, from a momentum standpoint was the last td of the 1st half for mu...they got a first down inside of the 1 with :57 left in the half and cu out of timeouts...and the monarchs called a timeout with about 22 seconds left on the play clock...they scored the next play, but left WAY too much time as cu got a long td and then a mishandled ko was covered in the endzone by cu...a HUGE momentum swing that should have never happened...had MU simply milked the clock, perhaps cu doesn't have time to score TWICE...

and i agree that cu looked much improved and much bigger - no usasac team will see an o-line that big

congrats to the pride for a big win...they needed something good after the summer they had to endure

hasa,

from what i saw..bad footage it looked like guilfords offense was clicking in the first half.  they should win some games if they put it all together.

7-6 but me and you both know it should be 9-4.

jks jks.

sidenote- did the pride offense ever click?

moshergc9

no need to answer.  just checked stats.

could be a long year again if the offense doestn gel.

Congrats to Huntingdon on a good win against Maryville.  Uptempo offense and a short field led to 21 first quarter points.  MC settled down on both sides of the ball after the first quarter.  MC had the ball for almost 42 minutes, ran 104 plays and 530 yards total offense, but scored only 13 points.  Offense did everything but put the ball in the end zone.  Huntingdon's defense played huge in the second half in the red zone.  Hope the Fighting Scots work on their red zone offense before playing Centre.

Congrats to Greensboro on getting their first win under their new coach.  That's the best news Greensboro has had in the past 6 months and should boost morale on campus....   Great job!!!!

What happened to CNU and the Ogun express?????   Only 8 yards rushing in a big game???

I was at the game in Dover. What a long day! I tried to find the right words for what I saw....Coach said it best in Daily Press

"It was 34-0, we got our butts kicked," Kelchner said. "We couldn't block their front four. Their front four thoroughly whipped our offensive line, pure and simple.

"No matter what back you have back there if you don't take care of your blocks up front there's nowhere to run."

Also - something was up with Ogun and it didn't make sense. He was running as if he was hurt or scared. I saw trainers working on his knee, yet he was in the game late 4th qt and CNU down 34-0. So I'm not sure about any of that. If he's hurt, get him out. If he's scared, then it's gonna be a long season!

The CNU QB, Long, played his butt off. He seemed to be the only guy who wanted to play. He was hurt twice and yet CNU kept putting him back in - even when they were down 34-0. As a fan, in that situation, I'd have to question the coaches thinking on that. Game was practically over, the O-line couldn't block my grandmother and you keep putting in your injured starting QB?

Wesley LBs were good. They also played a 4-4 with their front 4 dominating CNU. Heck - CNU tackles were in two point stance on pass plays and still were being whipped by the DEs.

For CNU fans - that was embarrasing. I think it was only the second shutout in CNU history.

I know you said "no need to answer," but just a few comments:  Guilford coulda, shoulda, woulda won this game, but TO's were the difference.  That's why they play the game, right?  Guilford's offense outgained the Pride (yardage was about 320-170).  I can tell Teague (former Reidsville HS coach) will put in some trickery - especially on passing.  First Pride score came on a 37 yard option to the right side after GCP picked off a Guilford pass at the 5 and ran it back to the other 37!  By rights, GCQ was knocking on a 14-0 lead, but "if and buts" ... you know.  Even in the last 7 minutes, I still thought GCQ was going to win ... down to the 1 and a costly penalty.  I think both teams will win 3 or 4 this year ... but better teams are ahead for both.

Nice to finally meet you today. I was impressed with the gutty performance of the CNU QB today. He took  more than a few big hits and kept putting his shoulder into people.  I didn't know what to expcet from the Wesley D ,but they certainly played a heck of a game . Ogun? It looked to me that he didn't want the ball at all in th second half. He had only about 8 yrds rushing total..

cnu85, it was nice to spend the day with you.  i enjoyed watching the game from a different perspective today.  we agree on the game, your qb is a gutsy kid, it is a shame few others played with his intensity.  we talked about ogun the entire game and how it looked like he was afraid to run the ball.  it is very odd if he was hurt that they kept sending him in that late in the game and giving him the ball.  it will be interesting to see if anything comes out this week about his knee, because if there is no injury then that was a very bad performance.  the o line did not do a good job, but ogun did not make anyone miss either.  good luck the rest of the year and i was glad to share a couple beers with you pre-game.
