My Bishops took a hard right to the jaw! It appears we have much improvement to make in the pass defense area, just based on what I read. Now we have the Gulls coming to town next Saturday! I don't know whether to be optimistic or down right frightened! Congrats to the winners! Narch, you are right! I saw CU practice the other day, they are flat out Huge! That is why I picked them to win against MU!
The only easy day was yesterday

I have to agree with Narch on the MU game. CU was just too good up front on Offense. They weren't just fat guys either as the O-Line actually looked athletic as well. With that said, I still felt like MU should have won that game. Teague and the Offense looked impressive early on, but the big plays from CU along with the two late first half TDs seemed to give CU the confidence they needed to run through the second half. I think MU can win a lot of games this year, and they have a lot of experience to bounce back from this loss. 2005 started with a 48-28 loss, and that season ended with a share of the Conference Championship, so there is still hope.

musupporter...welcome to the boards...great snapshot of the game, especially as it relates to mu abandoning the running game...scales had 7 carries for 85 yards in the first half...and ended the game with 7 carries for 85 yards...he didn't touch the ball in the 2nd half

i think a real turning point, from a momentum standpoint was the last td of the 1st half for mu...they got a first down inside of the 1 with :57 left in the half and cu out of timeouts...and the monarchs called a timeout with about 22 seconds left on the play clock...they scored the next play, but left WAY too much time as cu got a long td and then a mishandled ko was covered in the endzone by cu...a HUGE momentum swing that should have never happened...had MU simply milked the clock, perhaps cu doesn't have time to score TWICE...

and i agree that cu looked much improved and much bigger - no usasac team will see an o-line that big

congrats to the pride for a big win...they needed something good after the summer they had to endure

I have no problem going away from the run when you are behind and need to play catch up. I think the big plays by CU really took it out of Methodist. CU is a far better team than last year and have got some big time linemen. That size is really tough for a typical D3 lineman to go up against. The offense showed great potential and I think they will put some points up this year in conference play. They only had around 15-20 plays the whole second half so that was to blame as well. They will learn from that second half and I look for them to be a much better team this year. I won't get out of Florida for awhile so I hoipe to have good updates from you MU guys.

Listen here CNU 85 OR Greenburg or whatever your name is!  What makes you think that my nephew was scared in any way!  I was at the game front and center and saw a offensive line get PUNKED!  !@#$% SLAPPED AND WHATEVER ELSE THAT I SAW.  HAVE YOU TALKED TO MY NEPHEW IN PERSON.  HAVE YOU ASKED HIM DURING THE GAME WHAT IS WRONG.  I DOUBT IT.  I THINK IT IS REAL PERSONAL WHEN YOU CALL ANOTHER MAN SCARED.  SCARED FOR WHAT?  THAT OFFENSIVE LINE STINKS TO HEAVEN.  PLAY CALLING STINKS.  WHY DO YOU NOT HAVE A NICKEL AND DIME DEFENSE?  WHY ARE YOUR SAFTIES PLAYING UP NEAR THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE.  ENOUGH OF THAT.  I WILL BE AT THE GAME SEPT.19 AND I WILL HAVE A SIGN IN MY HAND "LOOKING FOR CNU85"  "HE CALLED TUNDE OGUN SCARED"  I WILL BE SEATING ON THE VISITORS SIDE WITH MY NO. 23 JERSEY ON.  SIT BY ME AND EXPLAIN TO ME AND MY NEPHEW WHY YOU FEEL HE IS SCARED.  OH BY THE WAY A SCARED MAN DON'T TEAR A ACL IN THE FIRST QUARTER AND GO BACK OUT AND FINISH THE GAME!

In my opinion (and I do not mean to speak for cnu85 who I have met in the past and appeared very reasonable to me), it seemed his post you were referring to did not demean Tunde Ogun in any way.  Instead he seemed to be sticking up for him and concerned about his safety. Wesley has seen some pretty good backs in their recent history playing some teams such as UMHB and UWW!

You are the one who has said inflammatory things such as;
QuoteEverything that is said is nothing but fuel on the fire.  SEE YOU SATURDAY.
QuoteI wish all players good luck Sat.  But I must warn you, If Wesley haven't  Shocked been in the weight room, their in for a long day.
QuoteONE, TWO, HE'S COMING FOR YOU....THREE, FOUR HE'S ABOUT TO SCORE.....
QuoteFrom what he has told me the line is ok.  If you remember they stacked the line 8-9 guys in the box.  Still could not stop him.  My only 2 concerns are the quaterback situation and our pass defenxe.

As a  long time poster, I see you as one of those posters who has blinders on. As I said to a poster back in November of 2008,
QuoteAs other longtime posters will tell you, I very seldom get on my soap box, but this post confirmed my impressions of you and reminded me of all the uninformed and "petty" parents I dealt with in my 35 years of coaching and being an Athletic Director.  They too had blinders on when it came to their kids and their program.  Why don't you just cheer for your team and leave it at that.  No one appointed you as their defender.  Maybe, just maybe, you do not know it all!!

I also respectively suggest you read Rule 3 in Pat's Terms of Service.

Anything that you ardently desire, vividly imagine, totally believe and enthusiastically pursue will inevitably come to pass !!!

ogun2k, no one accused ogun of being scared, just questioned what was going on in the game.  the discussion was whether or not he was hurt or scared.  it is hard to argue that he did not run very hard on any carry.  if as you say he tore his acl in the 2nd quarter, that would explain the tentative running.  What it will not explain is why he was still in the game late in the 4th quarter down 34 - 0.  i find it hard to believe that the cnu coaches would put him in the game trailing like that if he was hurt, if they did then they have plenty of questions to answer.  your o line was small and slow compared to wesley and it showed early that is was going to be hard for anyone to run the ball.  if ogun did tear an acl i hope that it is not bad and he gets a chance to live up to his pre-season all american status.  good luck the rest of the year.

I have to agree with roocru, you were very confident in ogun's and cnu's ability in this game and they got smoked.  if you look back, pawesleyfan warned you that many highly touted running backs have come into dover only to leave with their tail between their legs.  wesley is a very good program, semi finals twice and quarters twice in the last 4 years, losing only to uww and umhb, 2 of the top programs in d3.

musupporter

WOW.   Some touchy folks around here.

Narch, you are right.  Scales was running at will and could easily run for 125-150.  The O-line did a great job opening holes.  When they quit running they took play action out of play.  I think they went to panic mode a little quick or someone thought they could air it out and run up the score.  Who knows.

D-line is a good bunch.  Cook, Wilson, Cazzone, and Doyne have played together for a couple of years.  Not extremly big but strong and smart.  I think they get handcuffed alot by the d-cor.  I think they will shine when they face a normal o-line.

I hope when the coaches look at the tape they see exactly what we saw.  A running game that was working, a d-line that got beat down after holding their own, a secondary that needs work, and just a little work on special teams.  Other than the one blunder they gave good yardage everytime.

Alot of talent on this team if they can come together as a group.

I have to agree with roocru and wesleydad. CNU85 meant no disrepect at all in his statements. I have bantered back and forth with him for a long time on these boards and I respect his opinions
I also observed that Ogun looked like he didn't want the ball in the second half. I saw him go in motion twice in the fourth quarter and if he indeed have a torn ACL it didn't show on those two plays!! I mentioned to both CNU85 and welseydad that all-americans step up when the team is down and Tunde IMHO did not do that. I truly hope that he hasn't hurt his knee. I do know from my sons experience that it is not a pleasant thing to go through. I will tell you this though, that Salisbury will also come at CNU with some of the same rugged play that Wesley did and Tunde will have to raise his level of play or he will have the same results.

I questioned the move to.  We will see tues or wed.  It's just hard when a guy tries to play hard with no help.  Then to get injured but I think it was Tunde's competative juices that moved him to continue playing.  I told him to stop, do not go back.

Perhaps scared was a bad choice of words.....Tentative is probably a better description. He wasn't explodng to the hole like we are used to seeing. I understand how much family means. I apologize if my poor choice of words upset you. Tunde is an All-American and something wasn't right with the way he was running - bad o-line or not. I will look for you on Sept 19th. I owe you a beer!

I don't disrespect any player on any team at any level.

And to get back to one of my original points...if he's hurt in a game down 34-0 and I'm the coach - he doesn't play and I don't care how much he wants to play. There's at least 9 more games to play and we need Tunde as healthy as possible for all of them!!

Gentleman, hope you dont mind a newbie but have a son at Averret this year and always enjoyed the local high school boards so thought I would jump in. Dont know a lot about the conference outside of CNU, little about Ferrum and Methodist as we had several trips there before choosing Averret so if I get lost bear with me.

Very entertaining game yesterday at Bridgewater, if there is a good loss think that game would easily qualify.
With the exeption of the first 10 minutes it was a very even game. Both defenses gave up an easy td to pass coverage issues and both offenses showed they can put up points. If you blinked you missed a score. Biggest difference in the game with the exception of those first few minutes was special teams. AU's kicker had a terrible day, missed 2 fg and 1 pat. Only average about 27 yards a punt. AU gave up about 20 yards every time you had a punt exchange. AU defense played most of the game on thier half half of the field. AU also gave up a td to a punt return and another on an outstanding Int. return by a Bridgewater lineman.

Like I said dont know alot about all these teams but looks to me that Averret has an offense that can put up points, defense wasnt as bad as the score seems. Definetley need to work on the special teams and hopefully the kicking woes were just first game jitters.

Looking forward to jabbering back and forth.

First of all, your trainers, not your head or assistant coaches determines if Tunde goes back into a game after an injury.  OGUN2K says he's got a torn ACL.  Then he's done for the season.  If it's partially torn, then they can wrap the knee or brace it.  But the trainers certainly would not let him go back into the game with a damaged ACL no matter what the head coach or player says.

Kelchner is a heck of a head coach and certainly would not send him back into the game after an ACL injury.  That's why I think something else was going on based on the posts by the Wesley and CNU fans.

Hey AUPOP, Welcome!

I was fairly surprised at Averett as I did not expect them to do so well. I believe they may be flying under the radar. I think there will be lots of parity this year, and it should be interesting in the end.
This is a real good group/board, and while the fan side of the posters here might leave you with the impression of dare I say cockiness...Its all just high spirited hoopla. Very enjoyable banter...usually

Welcome
BEWARE THE BLACK HATS!

crazylegs33

You all know that I'm one of the biggest CNU supporters there is. I'm also one for openly saying what I think. So, ding the karma and bash my post but here goes.

My hat goes off to Matt Long. He is my type of player. Never gave up even when down late in the game.

I played football for 16 years (4 of them @ CNU) and I have seen it before. A lot of guys start to hang their heads. They get down two scores and they give up on their teamates. "We can't win, so why even try?". That is what I got from the game saturday. That type of attitude is infectious and needs to be squashed right now. If you aren't willing to fight til the last whistle we don't need you at CNU. I'm not saying everyone gave up, but it sure did look like a lot of the efforts fell off after getting down.

And as for all this about Ogun being scared or not trying? I'm not Tunde so I don't know, but I hope he reads this. I hope it pisses him off. I want him so pumped up for the next game that he runs for a mile in the first half. That goes for the O-line as well. You got emarassed saturday. And defense? Great job in the 2nd quarter. But we play 4 quarters every saturday. Strap it up.

AUPOP,

Welcome to the boards. Congrats on having a son play at Averett University. My son graduated this past May after playing 4 years at Averett. My son was the kicker the past four years and even he struggled on occassion. Don't worry, the kicker they have now has a strong leg and should do well. He backed by son up the last two years and I know he can kick. A thousand things could have gone wrong, bad snap, bad hold, bad kick, or like you say nerves. He should be OK as the season wears on. I think he is doing everything from Kickoff's, punting, field goals and extra points. That's alot for one kicker to concentrate on.

Sounds like the offense got cranked up second half and defense dug in. If memory serves me there was going to be lots of lettermen returning since they only lost like 9 seniors last year. In looking at the stats, a little more work needs to occur with the pass defense.

What position does your son play?  Averett has good coaches, Dunlevy is an excellent coach and your son will learn a great deal from him. Sounds like you may be from the Tidewater area. We live in Suffolk.

Hope to continue seeing you on here.
