You all know that I'm one of the biggest CNU supporters there is. I'm also one for openly saying what I think. So, ding the karma and bash my post but here goes.

My hat goes off to Matt Long. He is my type of player. Never gave up even when down late in the game.

I played football for 16 years (4 of them @ CNU) and I have seen it before. A lot of guys start to hang their heads. They get down two scores and they give up on their teamates. "We can't win, so why even try?". That is what I got from the game saturday. That type of attitude is infectious and needs to be squashed right now. If you aren't willing to fight til the last whistle we don't need you at CNU. I'm not saying everyone gave up, but it sure did look like a lot of the efforts fell off after getting down.

And as for all this about Ogun being scared or not trying? I'm not Tunde so I don't know, but I hope he reads this. I hope it pisses him off. I want him so pumped up for the next game that he runs for a mile in the first half. That goes for the O-line as well. You got emarassed saturday. And defense? Great job in the 2nd quarter. But we play 4 quarters every saturday. Strap it up.

+1 Karma from me!

Gentleman, hope you dont mind a newbie but have a son at Averret this year and always enjoyed the local high school boards so thought I would jump in. Dont know a lot about the conference outside of CNU, little about Ferrum and Methodist as we had several trips there before choosing Averret so if I get lost bear with me.

Very entertaining game yesterday at Bridgewater, if there is a good loss think that game would easily qualify.
With the exeption of the first 10 minutes it was a very even game. Both defenses gave up an easy td to pass coverage issues and both offenses showed they can put up points. If you blinked you missed a score. Biggest difference in the game with the exception of those first few minutes was special teams. AU's kicker had a terrible day, missed 2 fg and 1 pat. Only average about 27 yards a punt. AU gave up about 20 yards every time you had a punt exchange. AU defense played most of the game on thier half half of the field. AU also gave up a td to a punt return and another on an outstanding Int. return by a Bridgewater lineman.

Like I said dont know alot about all these teams but looks to me that Averret has an offense that can put up points, defense wasnt as bad as the score seems. Definetley need to work on the special teams and hopefully the kicking woes were just first game jitters.

Looking forward to jabbering back and forth.

AUPOP,

Welcome to the boards. Congrats on having a son play at Averett University. My son graduated this past May after playing 4 years at Averett. My son was the kicker the past four years and even he struggled on occassion. Don't worry, the kicker they have now has a strong leg and should do well. He backed by son up the last two years and I know he can kick. A thousand things could have gone wrong, bad snap, bad hold, bad kick, or like you say nerves. He should be OK as the season wears on. I think he is doing everything from Kickoff's, punting, field goals and extra points. That's alot for one kicker to concentrate on.

Sounds like the offense got cranked up second half and defense dug in. If memory serves me there was going to be lots of lettermen returning since they only lost like 9 seniors last year. In looking at the stats, a little more work needs to occur with the pass defense.

What position does your son play?  Averett has good coaches, Dunlevy is an excellent coach and your son will learn a great deal from him. Sounds like you may be from the Tidewater area. We live in Suffolk.

Hope to continue seeing you on here.

Thanks Kickerdad, I was hoping to hear from you, I had been reading some of your older posts so I thought you might have some info on the kicking situation. I agree, punting, KO and Pat's are a load for one guy. May have has a bit of nerves as well and a few snaps werent exactly on the mark. Sounds like that will all work itself out. They do have a freshman that didnt look to bad in warm ups punting so maybe he will be able to help out as things progress.

Offense started clicking in the secound quarter and really never looked back. Defense had some issues in the secoundary, seemed confused at times but hopefully they will get those issues resolved as the season moves on, think the bye week this week will be a big help, give them a chance to see in a game situation were the breakdowns occured. With the exception of a 52 yard draw play they played the run very well. There was about an 8 minute segment of the game were it really got away. BC had the big draw play to set up a FG, then the INT returned for a TD and then the punt return for TD. Tough to overcome all that but they gave it a heck of a try, was very impressed with the amount of heart and determination they showed. Should help them as the season goes along. Not totally familiar with the roster yet but does seem to be a lot of letterman from last years team. always a good thing.

We are over in New Kent across the river from you. Son plays O line, been banged up but is now back healthy and will be backing up Mayo( I think).  Agree with you as far as Coach Dunlevy. He spent about 45 minutes with us when we went on our first visit and we were sold. Very happy with our decision.

Hey AUPOP, Welcome!

I was fairly surprised at Averett as I did not expect them to do so well. I believe they may be flying under the radar. I think there will be lots of parity this year, and it should be interesting in the end.
This is a real good group/board, and while the fan side of the posters here might leave you with the impression of dare I say cockiness...Its all just high spirited hoopla. Very enjoyable banter...usually

Welcome

Again, thanks. Nothing wrong with a little feather ruffling, wouldnt be football without it.

Sounds great, maybe you can break us in on tailgating AU style.....LOL

I might be a little behind the times, but I just realized that the new Off. Crdntr. for Greensboro College is the father of MU's Teague. That should make for an interesting game.

Hey Proud Scott, let me give you the news from a reliable source.  MRI came back and was negative.  He may have a bad meniscus.  I know how he feels.  I tore my knee the same way in college.  Came back strong with rehab.  That what was wrong.  May not be there for salisbury but will be there for USA SOUTH games.

Make sure he rehabs exactly as the doctors and trainers say. If he comes back too early those bad meniscus will turn in torn ACL, or MCL. Then the rehab turns into a whole season and sometimes you never fully recover. I am speaking from experience since I tore both of my ACL's. Previous to the torn ACL's I had bad meniscus (torn, sprained) doesn't make any difference what you call it. He needs to stay off it, and rehab. He has too much to lose. Yea, I had ACL replacement but once the knee gets torn up, somethings never get back right.

Ryan Tipps

Just this past summer, I spent a large chunk of change at Va. Tech's vet school after my rottie tore her ACL after having a bad meniscus for several months.

Not quite the egregious situation that it is in a human, but it's my own first-hand experience that wasn't fun to deal with. I wish Tunde good care and good health!

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

OGUN2K,

Glad the MRI came out negative and Tunge gets back on the field as soon as possible.  I'm sure he'll be back at full strength by the time we face CNU on week #10.  He's the best RB we've seen in a long time....
