KEEPING IT REAL

Give a Big Up to the captains.  They did not loose the game, coaching lost the game.  Run the ball on the outside.  The captains are faster than Wilkes.  Also there was too much pressure on 19 to throw.  He did good for a first start.  Where was 23?  He did not look hurt.  No. 40 is to slow to run outside but is big enough to run in between the tackles.  I also did not see any nickel or dime packages.  A base 4-3 defense against the pass is no good.  I hope this does not carry over to next week.  Then what I saw was not good.  Wilkes in the middle of the field in a circle getting their swag on after the game.  Keep pounding CNU!

red zone woes....the monarchs rack up 385 yards of offense and only turn the ball over once, but score only 3 pts in a 28-3 loss - scales had 18 for 115

I think CNU QBs have been coached to think that sacks are better than incomplete passes! CNU D was containing Wilkes in first half - until CNU decided to go for it on a 4th down.......then got sacked.....gave Wilkes the ball on CNU half of the field for the first time all game. Field position must not be that important. PUNT!!! Oh Well CNU is 1-2 after playing Wesley, Salisbury, and Wilkes. 1-1 in region with loss to Wesley. Not too bad. Remember CNU only has 7 seniors who saw playing time today (I think that's right - could be 6). Give #19 more time under center and CNU has a guy for the next 4 years! Time for the conference!

Hey CNU85 I agree with you.  The third down defense is CNU problem.  No. 19 is the future.  To be sucessful they have to run, run, run the ball.  What was mind boggling is when CNU did not stop on the field, they went straight to the locker room.

cnu85, sounds like a pretty good but frustrating game for the captains.  From your and keeping it reals posts it sounds to me that wilkes did exactly what i told you they would from when i saw them play a couple of weeks ago.  they are not big or fast, but they stick to what they do well and take advantage of what the other team gives them.  did ogun play at all?  if not, what is the prognosis?  are they moving the other qb back to defense or is he still injured?  good luck in the conference.

WOW.  Almost 400 yards of total offense and only 3 points.  MU was in the red zone 6 times and couldn't push it in.  It was obvious what EH's game plan was.  QB or #7 was gonna run the ball 90% of the time.  Stevens (#&7) is a special kid.  Too bad he doesn't have D1 size.  Never watched a kid with that much heart.  Alot of players should take note.  So many reasons MU can't get it done.  Dumb penalties, tipped balls, dropped passes, poor play calling, missed tackles, an elementary defensive package, no team unity, lack of hustle.  This team seems to crumble with first sign of adversity.  Something needs to change.  Players?  Coaches?  Who knows.  The biggest chnage would be in attitude.  MU needs a winners attitude.  It appears they have become accustomed to this destructive cycle they are stuck in.  Who are the team leaders.  Not in stats, but on the field, in the locker room, on the side lines?  Are the MU coaches so controlling that they are not allowing the leaders to emerge or are there just not any leaders on this team?  Has Syphult lost control?  Surely he sees what is going on.  In my  degree program I took a class, Methodology of Instruction.  The biggest one thing I took from that class is that if the whole class fails, then the material provided to the class was insuffecient.  Could that be the case here?  It is extremely painful to watch the Monarchs play at this level.

Another thought.  It would be easy for someone to try and put Saturdays loss on Teague.  But if you have never lined up behind center, you don't have a clue.  Teague is a gamer.  He scrapps for everything he gets.  He runs the plays given to him.  He doesn't call the plays.  4th and 1.  I want the ball in Teagues hands.  Teague has off days like anyone else.  But on any given Saturday, I'll take 11 Eric Teagues against your 11 and my chances are going to be good.

I saw Averett play W&L yesterday.  Weather was definitely an issue.  Light drizzle in the first half and steady rain in the second half.  Both teams played well but the weather impacted what they were able to accomplish.  As previously stated W&L went up 10-0 but then Averett dominated the game.  The whole second half was played on W&L's side of the field.  Averett had the opportunity to score at least three more times but stalled between the 20 - 25 yard line.  Weather prevented a field goal attempt.  I don't think W&L crossed mid-field in the second half.  Averett defense was very good in the second half.

Sorry I missed the Pick ems last week, but was out of the country and no access to computer.
Congrats to all the winners yeaterday! Luckily for me, my Bishops had an open date. maybe with a little luck they worked on consistency and pass defense.

Just a little insight on the Bishops. On offense they start 3 Fr., 2 So.,3 Jr., and 3 Sr.. The defense start 1 Fr., 2 So., 4 Jr., and 4 Sr.  We too are young as is the case with a few other USAC. teams. Should make for an interesting next couple of years if everyone can hang on to what they have and add a few to the mix.

We need to learn to win on the road! Maybe with a little more consistency and experience, we will.

Based upon statistics I saw, both CNU and Methodist outplayed their opponents. Penalties and miscues will always create problems. Both teams, just as the Bishops have done, have had a tendency to dig themselves into a whole.  I like what I saw from the Fr. Quatrterback for CNU. You guys maybe on to something with a little more experience.

Congrats to all!

The only easy day was yesterday

Ferrum wins in a mud fest in Buena Vista. While I had thought Ferrum would win by much more, SVU had a fairly decent team...much stronger than I would have thought. Their QB must be very solid. Their 4 losses before yesterday, had come to 3 DII teams, and one FBS team...they still have another FBS team on their schedule.

I wish FC would take a lesson on scheduling from them. The Panthers need to pick up a stronger non conference schedule, much in the same realm as CNU is doing.
