CNU supporters.... Hope this weeks game will be a close fought contest and a good one. I will not be able to see it. Have to go to Shelby, NC and watch my grandson play. May the best team win and hope it is not a blow out either way.  In spite of his injury, glad to see Tunde back, although I wish he could have waited until after this game. :)
The only easy day was yesterday

Read various comments on the AU - CNU.  The biggest challenge AU has is linemen.  They've got skill people (many from Florida that have talent but lack size) - but size was a problem against CNU.  AU was giving away probably an average of 30 lbs a man on either line and was evident by the fact that often the surge was so great that Ogun was often beyond the line of scrimmage before he was even touched.

If D-II was big in VA, most of their linemen would be probably playing at that level (as a rule of thumb D-I O linemen today are 6'4" plus (so they have the frame to be 300lbs+), D-II linemen, in the 6'2 - 6'4" in the 260 - 280 range (CNU's lnemen) & D-III linemen are typically the kids that are shorter in the 250 range.  Being a state school in the talent rich tidewater area is another significant advantage they have over the rest of the conference.

That being said - AU should be competitive with the rest of the conference this year.  They'll have to play hard each game to win but it's unlikely that they'll experience another physical pounding as they did last Saturday.  Maryville should be a competitive game.

Pretty accurate assesment. In talking with my nephew it does seem that they may have the future working of a solid offensive line though. They have freshman that are 6-3-300, 6-2-290 and a beast at 6-7-320. Given time to develope and learn thats the pretty good beginings to what could be a dominant offensive line. Not sure about the defensive side. It will be interesting to see how things progress for AU.

Thanks to everyones response to my question. Learned a lot about D3 in the past few days. Best of luck to all.

Hope the weather gives the USA South a break.  Look forward to Saturday football.  As I said in earlier posts concerning MU, regardless of the score, it has been great watching them make progress over the last few weeks.  Good luck to everyone this weekend and be safe. ;D

This a must win for Shenandoah University (1-4) to have a shot of having a winning record for the 1st time since 2004.  The Hornets have won just 10 out of the last 45 games.

The perception from the "pickers" on here, looks like this Saturday vs. Methodist is a great opportunity for SU to get a much needed WIN.

Week 7 PickEms

Greensboro            @     Ferrum
NCWC                   @     Christopher Newport
Shenandoah           @     Methodist
Averett                 @     Maryville
Guilford                  @    Bridgewater
Emory & Henry        @    Randolph Macon
Washington & Lee   @    Hampden-Sydney
Catholic                 @   Gallaudet

Reasons for Maryville Win over Averett:

Last 2 weeks we have faced the Conference's leading rusher.  Here are the stats before playing us and after

Scales - Methodist (Before MC - 125 yards rushing;  MC game - 58)

Kyle - Shenandoah (Before MC -135 yards rushing:  MC game - 70)

Scots Offense is clicking on all cylinders and can move up and down the field on the ground or through the air.

MC beats Shenandoah, who lost to CNU in double OT, who beat Averett 42-12.

Finally, it is MC's homecoming as well this week, so I don't think Averett can get mad enough to take this one.  Maybe next week.
If you wanna go to heaven and walk the streets of gold.
You gotta know the password.
It's GO SCOTS GO!!

I still love my team but is it just me or is someone other than myself still waiting on CNU to take football to the next level. A lot of other football Alums and myself could care less that we took AU out to the woodshed but pissed off that we were embarrassed by Wesley, and beat by Wilkes. Don't get me wrong I love going to the games and seeing my team win more often than we lose but our team success should now be measured by what we do in the playoffs.

To the team stay focused, get the playoff bid, and then make a run on the national stage, where teams don't care if you are public or private they just care about moving on to the next round. Also good luck this week and beat the Bishops.

Another point to mention....at least in the Commonwealth of Va - no college or university, at any level, receives money for athletics from the commonwealth.

85, hope you are doing OK....

Question, how much does having a former Senator (Paul Tribble) as President of the University help with fund raising?

He's the major reason, or champion if you will, for all the major changes at CNU. Even back in the early 90's when CNU's signature team was basketball and they had a guy drafted in round 2 of the NBA draft, CNU could never really be said that the entire athletic dept had a national presence. The Athletic Director, CJ Woolum is top notch, but he did not have the level of support from top administration that he has now. Trible is the visionary for the school and a guy who knows how to get things done. So far in his tenure, he has raised the academic standards significantly. also, he has found funding, private and through bonds, to have already built $500 million in facility improvements. Another $500 million is underway or soon to be underway. The Freeman Center for sports is being expanded as we speak. Funds for the Chapel are almost 100% in hand and money is being raised now for an Alumni center. Adding $1 billion in facility improvements, adding football, adding a marching band, adding a dance team, are all a part of the vision. The Ferguson Center for the Arts is one of the best performing arts centers in the country. I've been there and to many other facilities, including broadway. My daughter has danced at many of these places, none compare to The Ferguson Center.....privately funded - $59 million facility. Look at where CNU was 20 years ago and compare to today - it is totaly different. Even the dorms are fairly new. We didn't have them when I was there. Trible is the reason for the school and Woolum finally gets some support in building a national presence athletic dept. Soccer #1 in latest men's coaches poll. Field Hockey #17. Baseball not too long ago finished #2 and then #3 in College World Series. Men's hoops often breaks into top 25 - CJ will get win #500 this year, and football, while young will at times break into the top 25. It's a combination of things and the community support is also a big part of it.

Heard on the news this morning that there was a fire in one of the dorms. Hope no major damage and no one got hurt.

CNU85

What I heard - but I guess we will not know for sure until later tonight was that they evacuated 350 students from the dorm in the early morning hours and they were able to return at 5:30 this morning...so it doesn't sound too bad!!

CNU85

Kickerdad...found out more from link below...and my daughter's best friend lives in that dorm...it was no big deal.
