I'm not picking ODAC games. Don't know about em. CNU doesn't play em so I dont care.

And cnusfinest54,

I know what you mean and oddly enough I think the best thing for CNU would be increased conference competition. When you walk through the conference (for the most part) you get lulled into a false sense of security. Then the playoffs come and the competition is bigger and faster than what you have seen all year in conference play. Id like to see a big time out of conference game toward the end of the season. I think we have a tendency to forget about the first few games of the year and think that we are getting better as the year goes on. In actuality the opponents get weaker after game 3. We cant control how good our conference is but we could schedule a tougher game midway or later in the year. Maybe something to keep us from letting of the gas and coasting into the playoffs.  ???

'02, '03, '04, '06...    4 years, 4 championships...

ProudFightingScot

I don't know anything about the ODAC teams either except Emory & Henry is 4-0 against the USA-South.

The conference changed their scheduling formate this year so that the final 7 weeks of the season will be conference games.  The only chance of scheduling any non-conference opponents has to be at the beginning of the season.

The following is the Strength of Schedule ratings as provided by D3football.com

  33    Maryville
  59    NC Wesleyan
  77    Ferrum
112    CNU
150    Greensboro
158    Shenandoah
174    Methodist
180    Averett

Another point to mention....at least in the Commonwealth of Va - no college or university, at any level, receives money for athletics from the commonwealth.

85, hope you are doing OK....

Question, how much does having a former Senator (Paul Tribble) as President of the University help with fund raising?

He's the major reason, or champion if you will, for all the major changes at CNU. Even back in the early 90's when CNU's signature team was basketball and they had a guy drafted in round 2 of the NBA draft, CNU could never really be said that the entire athletic dept had a national presence. The Athletic Director, CJ Woolum is top notch, but he did not have the level of support from top administration that he has now. Trible is the visionary for the school and a guy who knows how to get things done. So far in his tenure, he has raised the academic standards significantly. also, he has found funding, private and through bonds, to have already built $500 million in facility improvements. Another $500 million is underway or soon to be underway. The Freeman Center for sports is being expanded as we speak. Funds for the Chapel are almost 100% in hand and money is being raised now for an Alumni center. Adding $1 billion in facility improvements, adding football, adding a marching band, adding a dance team, are all a part of the vision. The Ferguson Center for the Arts is one of the best performing arts centers in the country. I've been there and to many other facilities, including broadway. My daughter has danced at many of these places, none compare to The Ferguson Center.....privately funded - $59 million facility. Look at where CNU was 20 years ago and compare to today - it is totaly different. Even the dorms are fairly new. We didn't have them when I was there. Trible is the reason for the school and Woolum finally gets some support in building a national presence athletic dept. Soccer #1 in latest men's coaches poll. Field Hockey #17. Baseball not too long ago finished #2 and then #3 in College World Series. Men's hoops often breaks into top 25 - CJ will get win #500 this year, and football, while young will at times break into the top 25. It's a combination of things and the community support is also a big part of it.

Hampden-Sydney College, class of 1968. You're welcome ...  ;)

Sorry guys, was just trying to add more games to make it interesting. Actually thought about following the ODAC lead and putting some of the top 10 teams in there as well. Guess I won't do that either.
Go ahead and give it a stab, I won't count the ODAC games in the tally.

Add the following picks

Bridgewater
E&H
H-S
Catholic

Proud Fighting Scot - Strenght of schedules really don't mean much right now, it more of a timing issue.  With few exceptions granted Maryville, CNU - Wesley) USA South and ODAC both play the same conference and non-conference schedules.  They'll all tighen up by year end.

The real point is that both conferences are rated in the lower half of all the conferences nationwide.  So the real issue is not strenght of schedule now - but to improve the overall play and when teams do play outside the USA South and ODAC is do something they really haven't done - an that is to win.

ProudFightingScot

I absolutely agree with yo WFU34.  MC lost to #22 & 6-0 Centre by 7 points.  CNU lost to #5 Wesley.  Don't understand why such a big difference in strength of schedule.

However, it doesn't mattter since conference winner will get the AQ.  Just passing on interesting info.....

Going to be a very wet field tomorrow for the Averett game.  Has rained 3 straight days...
