What a great effort by the kids!

But it's SU's (1-7) seventh straight loss with 24 to 22 defeat by the hands of the Averett University.

SU is a heck of a ball club. They fought back everytime AU took any advantage. They have nothing to hang there heads about. The running back for SU ( Kyle I think it was) pure beast. Used up all my heart medication..... best of luck to SU.

Hey KickerDad...we had a band today!!!!

SpeedKills

Great job today Methodist. I was glad to see you guys play up to your ability.

i would not be surprised if they beat MU next week.
considering the pride is 2-10 all time against mu, i would...

So who made the trip to Ferrum to see the game? Curious to find out your impressions. Sounded like to me it came down to a battle in the trenches.
BEWARE THE BLACK HATS!

Felt bad for SU team yesterday.  Really not a bad squad - should have some more wins but made too many critical mistakes and some critical penalities (why they didn't give it to their running back for the 2 point conversion is beyond me.  AU couldn't stop him).  AU also didn't help themselves any by going into a shell offensively in Q4, i.e., stopped passing and giving SU back the opportunities to score.

Don't know when AU will learn - they move the ball with a balance attack and/or the spread (drive at the end of Q2 nearly 80 yards in 1:30 for go ahead FG or several weeks back against Maryville for the win with 3 minutes to go in the game) or the first 2 drives in Q3 which resulted in TDs.  They don't have the horses up front for a power running game when everyone is expecting the run, i.e., they were stopped several times on 3 & 4th downs with less than a yard.

If they can get by a tough game next week at Ferrum, then they have their fate in their hands - that's all one could ask for.

2-10 all time does not mean anything. Greensboro has a new offensive coordinator and their defense is playing much better this year than the past years. MU cant stop the run and their offense is a hit or miss come game day. Only reason they kept up with NCW is because NCW turned the ball over early and gave methodist hope and gave them the enthusiasm that they never play with. It did not help that NCW could not stop MU offense for the majority of the game but NCW was bigger, faster, and stronger. They just didnt play well at all. If the offense of mu comes to play against greensboro it may become another shootout or its going to be a low scoring game. Until the defense can learn how to stop the run then they will not see another win this season.

Stopping the run is exactly what the problem has been lately.  MU ran some kind of nickle package most of the day with 4 down linemen, 2 linebackers and 5 defensive backs.  As usual, the line took on double teams most of the day and got very little support.  Free safety leading in tackles is never good.  since the new me does not call out individuals, all I can say is that MU needs a couple more db's that are willing to hit somebody.  The tackling was less than steller.  Not surprising since MU does not tackle in practice.

Don't be surprised when MU puts up alot of points.  When they are on, they have many good weapons.  If not for a couple dropped passes, the outcome of this game would have been different.

Unfortunately I did not see the NCWC/MU game in person. I only had live statistics to go by. Based upon that I have to say that Methodist (in my book) is a much better team than their record indicates. I have no way of knowing if Wesleyan had a "let down" or not, but I don't think you give enough credit to a super performance by a team that gave my Bishops a run for the money! It is not going to be easy in any remaing games for the Bishops. The have to expect the best from each of their opponents. That is what makes a winner. Methidist was no surprise to me as indicated in my pick ums comment. I expected a close game. But, Don't take anything away from the Monarchs. It would not surprise me at all for them to win against Greensboro. It should be close, in fact I would be surprised if either team ran away with the game. :)

Bishop 64.  I don't think NCW had a let down.  They turned the ball over early a couple times and MU took advantage.  Both offenses were moving the ball.  Both teams had TD passes dropped in the end zone and both teams had passes dropped elsewhere that should have been caught.  If you take a look at the MU stats for the year, they have statisically won most of their games as far as producing offense. (Dont look at the AU stats.  Lost that one everyway there was to lose ???)  MU is lacking on the defensive side of the ball of late. Poor tackling is killling them.  Thanks for giving credit where credit is due.  The bishops are a good team and there is not doubt in my mind why they lead the conference.  Compared to the shelacking they gave MU last year, I would say the Monarchs have come a long way.

NaturalSelection

Methodist defense has been 4 down lineman and 2 linebackers all year long. they run a 4-2-5 where the two outside backers sometime line up in the box out of the box and even at a deep safety sometimes. the weak olb is horrible. he is slow and is afraid to hit. he has good plays now and then but i think he has far more worse plays. they havent been able to stop the inside run all year and their tackling abilities are below average. they miss too many and musupporter said they dont tackle in practice. They line up in full pads once a week and its thud up. also this past week they practiced in just helmets twice and did tackling drills without pads on. what is a tackling drill going to do for you if your in just helmets?

musupporter

Naturalselection, you are probably right about the 4-2-5.  I guess I assumed it was a 4-3 based on the guy that played earlier in the season.  he was built more like a linebacker.  I wonder if it is a personnel issue since they went from a 3-5 to a 4-2-5? I may be off on my thinking and I surely understand not wanting your starters hurt in practice, but with so many players on the roster, you would think they could manage some real speed situations that include tackling.  The last 3 games - SU, AU, and NCW -- the tackling has been an issue. The down linemen did good at times getting in the backfield but didn't finish.  The pressure on the QB was better than it has been in the past so there are some positives.  It may be to late but I think they would have been better off moving Leary back to linebacker.  He will fill the hole and is not afraid to hit.  There are also some very athletic looking guys on the sideline that look like linebackers to me.  I know 66 had a huge game last week but not so much this week.  Your free safety should never lead the team in tackles.

NaturalSelection

i completely agree with you. there is plenty of talent on that sideline to play linebacker. the player you may be talking about playing in the beginning of the season may have been number 35. he hasnt played since putting the maryville qb out with a concussion. leary is the most physical guy on that defense the past three weeks and it should not be like that.

after looking at the roster and stats there are a few linebackers that have not played at all. number 37, 55, and then some more freshmen.

I agree with you that MU has come a long way. As I mentioned earlier, I have no way of knowing if the Bishops had a let down or not, I was not at the game. The only thing I know about MU's personel is that Teague is a quality Quarterback. They may have others on the sidelines that could perform better. I guess my point is, the Bishops will probably face fired up teams the remainder of the season. I have no beef with the Bishops or MU other than the fact than the fact that the live stream audio kept messing up on my computer, So I sat and watched live statistics. That is what I based my opinion on. Either way, I am tickled pink the Bishops won. I have felt all year that MU has not played up to my expectations and that is certainly not based on personal knowledge. Either way, it was exciting, especially from watching the Live stats! I do think they have a shot at Greensboro. LOL :)
