Narch,

I remember one of those.  maybe two..hits to the head are catching up to me. .. Im willing to bet methodist will catch the loss this week though.  Greensboro is playing defense and offense TOGETHER!!!  Im not sure if that has ever happened before.

Proud to see the Pride playing well!

Where are all the CNU posters? I have not seen any comments about their win...I am hoping that one or two of them went to the game. Would like to know their perspective.

Ryan T. You were there- what happened in the second half....Seems like we could not stop them on 3rd downs...too much Tunde? Time of possession was very lopsided in the second half it seemed to me.

They are well past due for some quality wins....I had them picked to finish eighth. They will probably be fifth or fourth. Great job for GC- I still think their coach should be coach of the year.

I'm amazed at what the majority of topics are discussed on this board lately.  The conference race is the tightest in probably years with the very real potential that it could end up in a 3 way tie for the championship (NCWU, CNU and AU).  In addition, the championship could very likely be decided on the last day of the season, yet barely a word on that topic.

If the 3 - way happens, while exciting and would justly reward the players from those teams that worked hard during the season (and that does not imply the other teams did not work hard), it will probably leave 2 teams disappointed by the NCAA because only 1 team will represent the conference in the playoffs.

For example, I would think there might be opinions/discussions as how exciting the race for the championship is this year, what the various contenders need to do to win it, who has to stumble, etc., or would any.  Even what the conference and it members need to do to avoid the disappointment of sending only 1 representative to the playoffs in the future (because it's happened before) if there are co-champions and worthly of the opportunity.

Instead the buzz lately is largely about teams in the second division of the conference for instance MU or other teams in the lower part of the standings.  Not to disparge MU for example, but let's look at it realistically.  They have won 2 games, slipping by Guilford by 1 (who's next to last in the ODAC and has won only 2 games) and Shenandoah in OT, a truly snake-biten team but still only 1 win and last in the conference.  The mere winning percentage of these teams is a combined .187 (3 - 13).  This is a team that didn't even get a 1st down until mid-way thru the 4th quarter against AU a few weeks back.  Against some of the stronger teams, they have been largely uncompetitive.

Obviously, everyone posts the topics they want to discuss and we're all fans (which is short for fanatic) of our respective teams, I just find it interesting.

WFU34, it would be great to talk about conference championships and playoffs if some of us had a dog in the fight.  Most of us only have the time and energy to follow our respective teams but I do have an opinion about the leaders of the conference.

Of the 3 teams battling for the conference, it is anybody's to take.  I only hope it doesn't come down to a coin flip.  So far, AU is the only team MU didn't move the ball against.  I think the team that shores up their defense is going to take the prize.  All of them have high power offenses.  Comes down to who can stop who.

You mentioned how bad MU is this year and all the discussion about them and SU.  Well, when your team is struggling, everyone has an opinion of how to fix it.  If MU was leading the conference, what would we have to talk about?  If that were the case, I am sure you would see more posts from the schools chasing them.

As far as MU not being competitive, you are a little off base.  By the score of a couple games you could get that impression.  So happens that last night I did a little research into the games MU has played this year.  With the exception of the AU game, MU has out performed or performed to the same level offensively as every team they have faced.  However, Wins and Loses are what get you to the top of the standings.  MU has done a complete 180 in the last 3 years.  They were good defensively and couldn't score.  Lately, they move the ball at will but can't stop any one.

dont ncwc have the upper hand when they beat cnu and au lost to cnu looks like ncwc would have already won the conf.

MU Total Offense this year vs. their opponents:

Campbell   544    MU 351     MU Loss
Guilford      233    MU 326     MU wins
E+H           349     MU 385     MU Loss
Maryville    397     MU 318     MU Loss
Ferrum      544     MU 407      MU Loss
SU             330     MU 265     MU Wins
AU             423     MU 114     MU Loss
NCW          525    MU  444     MU loss

MU defensively has to step up if this is ever going to change.  Most schools would be happy with the offensive numbers MU has produced this year with a couple of exceptions - the SU and AU game.  Just have to get the whole package together.

Not yet but they do have the upper hand going into the final two weeks. They win out its all cut and dried but if AU can get past Ferrum ( easier said than done) then the AU / NCWC game comes down to either one champ, two, or depending on CNU three co champs.  If all the stars line up right it could be a pretty wild last weekend come November 14th.

I would think that to be the case if they all win out.  Do any of the top teams play each other over the next 2 weeks?

What a great effort by the kids!

But it's SU's (1-7) seventh straight loss with 24 to 22 defeat by the hands of the Averett University.

SU is a heck of a ball club. They fought back everytime AU took any advantage. They have nothing to hang there heads about. The running back for SU ( Kyle I think it was) pure beast. Used up all my heart medication..... best of luck to SU.

Hey KickerDad...we had a band today!!!!

I had a gut feeling that SU was going to give Averett a rough time. They have been in every game this year from start to finish. Sounds like Averett (from what WFU34 says)  shut down in the 4th quarter and tried to be too conservative. I can't judge because I wasn't there to see. Just going on what every one else is saying, the stats and the score . I will say this, unless Averett plays 60+ minutes of football against Ferrum and plays with reckless abandonment the entire game,  Ferrum is going to run that option all day long with great success. Last year and in 2006 Averett stopped that option with great success but the two years I traveled to Ferrum, they run over us all day. Again, Averett neds to play a complete game against Ferrum and think about them only. Don't be looking ahead to NCWC.

The reason no one is talking from CNU is because we got blasted at home and to talk of the playoffs now is a joke. No offense to any team in our league, but if you get beat that bad by one of the teams in our conference at home, you have no real shot of doing anything in the playoffs. Only the AQ will make the playoffs from the conference, because no one in the conference has beaten a national power to warrant an extra team getting in.

Finish up strong CNU players but a lot of you all need to work HARDER during the offseason and rethink your goals as a CNU football player. We need to win the South Region title and compete for National Title. Winning the conference and going to the playoffs at CNU is an expectation not an accomplishment, so you will get a little slap on the a$$ and that's it. Complete those never been done goals and then you will cement yourself in our young history.

Good luck to the eventual AQ winner. When the playoffs start we are the USA South.

Mosh....come on, you've got to remember more than one of our battles  ;D

All this talk about MU not tackling in practice has got me wondering, do other colleges tackle in practice this time of year?  I played for two different schools and neither of them tackled in practice during the season.  Just seems like a lot risk with not that much reward.

You are right.  Tackling this time of year is risky...............unless tackling is a major problem.

AU Pop - if you look at the play detail in the stats of the SU game, you'll see all the AU plays were on the ground in Q4.  Not looking at it now - but I don't recall a series that went more than 6 plays, possibly 1 first down.  You're absolutely right on the point that they can't look past Ferrum.  They're not that good that they can simply throw their helmets on the field and expect a win.

Glad to see prior comments generated some feedback.  To the CNU supporter - interesting view.  Was that the reason that they barely escaped Greensboro?

WFU,

the way I see it, after the beatdown at cnu, I feel there is little talk about the top 3 teams, because we don't see anybody beating NCW. The only way I see CNU getting a title is with a 3 way tie or if NCW loses 2 and a bunch of other things happen. I haven't studied it, but I would think one more win for NCW and they're the champs. I predict tht will happen this weekend.
