This week is a must win for averett to keep their hopes alive for a chance at conference. i also think methodist may win if their offense plays like they did against greensboro but with their defense i dont think it will matter. Greensboro is too much for a young and poorly coached methodist defense. you cant rely on your offense to outscore every opponent, defense has to do something.

Don't be surprised if the MU defense comes to play Saturday

WFU34- Nobody has said CNU IS a national contender year in and year out.  You made that assumption on your own from a previous post and it is incorrect.  We schedule these games so we see how we match-up and to see what it takes to be a successful team year in and year out.  It also makes the team stronger for the rest of the season and better prepared for a playoff push.  I hope that CNU continues to make the opening schedule as difficult as possible and make the players step their game up.  I believe Wesley and Wilkes were 2-year agreements, so I think CNU will need 2 new teams to play next year unless the contracts with either of these schools is renewed.

WFU34

CNUALUM9 - if CNU does become a national contender year in and year out it only raises the level of the conference which is good for everyone.

WFU34,

I challenge you to find one person on this board who is willing to call CNU's out of conference schedule weak.

Your response?

CNU's out of conference schedule is weak........................I'm just kiddin.

Games against tough out of conference opponents can be hard to line up for several reasons.  Some schools with a rep of being good don't want to take a chance against a school  like CNU for fear of going home with their tails between their legs.

I understood what the CNU guys were trying to say.  They expect their alum to challenge for the conference every year and make a showing in the playoffs.  I have been keeping up with this banter from the start and no one said CNU is a national contender year after year.  I will  say they play a tougher out of conference schedule than anyone else in our league and I am positive it will get tougher if the teams can be lined up.

Good luck to all on Saturday.  Be safe.

Just curios, is a two year schedule for non conference games typical?

Normally, but then they will sometimes stretch them out. i.e. Averett/Guilford, Averett/W&L,,not sure what will happen next year with Bridgewater. This was the 2nd year.

Actually W&L was the main reason I asked. Was told they wouldn't be playing AU next year but seemed that seemed odd because it had been 3 years ( not 4). But I dont know if the person who told me that actually knew what they were talking about anyway.

You are absolutely correct.  I hope that all teams from the USA South continue to grow and get stronger and develop into a conference that could get 2 bids a year.

AUPOP - I'm pretty sure most out-of-conference schedules are set-up as 2-year contracts.  This way, each team has the chance to play at home. Ryan Tipps or Pat Coleman can probably provide better insight on it.

I don't know every player on the defense but I know several of them and have been able to spend some time with them, one of them being my son.  They realize they are the weak link right now.  Nobody likes being called out and I fully expect the intensity level to pick up.  And if the Coach has any sense, he will bench any player that doesn't pick up the intensity and that includes  my son.

By the way, exactly what is your connection to MU.  You have an awful lot to say about them.  Just curious

i know you didn't ask me, but if you had i would tell you this...

mu has really struggled stopping the run, especially lately...greensboro can't run the ball (64 ypg, 2.3 ypc)

if gc can't get any running game going, the monarch de's (especially doyne and mewborn) are too athletic for the gc offensive line...i think they'll force the gc qb to make some mistakes...i also think the mu db's have played better, of late (at least they aren't giving up as many big plays)...of course, i could be wrong :)

NaturalSelection

i dont think its the fact that the players lack intensity. there was plenty of that during the NCW game. its more on the players as individuals in terms of the skill level and the coaches abilities. the majority of the defense are vets and they play like vets but when things go wrong they seem to hang their heads and everything declines from there. that was apparent in the NCW game. things were going right and the defense looked good in the first quarter. but once they started missing tackles and NCW took the reverse for a touchdown players started to question themselves and you could see it on the field. for the defense to be successful in the next two games they need to completely forget about everything that has happen this season and just worry about stopping the opponent regardless of what the MU offense is doing. they have plenty of talent to go out there and shut anyone down but for some reason they arent. whether it be missed assignments, missed tackles, or just poor scheme.

by the way...where can i find directions to the field that greensboro plays at and what is it called?

the MU dline is very good this year. no doubt about that. i also agree with you that the dbs are playing better but other then campbell they have played well all year long. like i said the defense has a ton of talent but for some reason they dont play like it all the time.

NaturalSelection

when i said i wouldnt be surprised if greensboro beat methodist is because their offensive coordinator is a very good coach and knows how to run a offense very well. with a team that is bad against stopping the run i am sure their coach can find a way to utilize their offensive weapons and run the ball. all it takes is a few big runs to make the defense have to defend the run before pass. i would not be surprised if greensboro has put in a few draws trap plays out of their shotgun offense.
