Wow - I go away for a few days and come back to this. There's no doubt in my mind that Matt Long is the toughest player on the team....has been for years. I first noticed him in the home win against Mary-Hardin Baylor. The guy was hitting so hard he kept coming off the field holding his shoulder. But he also kept going back in. He played QB the way he played Safety - he stuck his nose in there and made stuff happen. I've also known Keclhner since before the first player ever walked on to campus. I can't imagine him doing that, but it sounds like it happened. I can see one of the other assistant coaches trying to do something like that.

Sounds like CNU is going to have to do a lot of soul searching in the off season - players, coaches, everybody. Hate to say it, but we sound like spoiled little brats. We go 5-5 and start acting like 5 year olds.

Gut check time - fans included!

My thoughts and prayers are with the Ferrum community and the families of the students.

To the CNU faithful and especially the individual directly involved, keep your heads held high. You have nothing to be ashamed of. It doesn't matter if you go 10-0 or 0-10, its what you learn and take away for future use that counts. Everyone that was on both sides of the ball and on both side lines know the scarifice Matt made to  help his team. Don't lower yourself to the standards of those that talk trash. Keep your head held high and walk away with pride. Your family, team and friends love and support you more than you know.

Congratulations to all of the selected "All Conference" players (1st, 2nd and Hon. mention teams). Congrats also to the NCWC Coach  for "Coach of the Year"

I agree w/ ya.  While every fan wants an awesome season, relaistically every program is due for a down year once in a while.  It is football and it happens (plus 5-5 as a down season isn't that bad).  That's what the offseason is for, to correct what happened.  CNU is too good to stay down for long.  Welcome back 85!

your exactly correct narch there is no other QB on the MU team that would of made that play because Murphy would have scored instead of being hawked down and Preston is smart enough that he would not even gotten hit he would of gotten the first down and taken a knee. If you think Teague won the game for them saturday he may have, but the defense played their best game of the season, special teams did great not letting #3 get into space, and Teague did not turn the ball over, but when you look at the numbers between the three qbs preston has the best numbers. and the reason he has participated in so many games according to the stats is because he is the PAT holder. he has only thrown the ball in two different games

If what's been written about the CNU final 2009 team meeting and the actions of the head coach are factual, then that's a shame and he truly doesn't understand the role he has at an institute of higher learning.  If this coach berated young men on his team as noted, he should be disciplined by CNU.

It's ironic that if this occurred, that it happened in the Tidewater area where there are so many quality fine young men and women are based with far greater responsibilities to us than winning a DIII football game, protecting his right to be a jerk.

In any walk of life, if discipline or criticism is warranted, it's done in private, not in front of peers.  Just one last comment, my wife always told me, "when you point a finger at someone, 3 point back".  Possibly the CNU coach needs to look in the mirror before tearing into a young man.

Exactly.  Keep them in your thoughts.

i think if the coaches are blaming Matt, its because they dont want to take the blame themselves. hopefully things change and matt can get on the field for one last season because he is hell of a player and deserves to play while he still can.

Natural Selection....just out of curiosity...In your opinion, did the MU coaches make at least one correct decision this season.   Just curious because out of all your post I don't think you have had one thing positive to say about MU on this board...granted these boards are a place to vent frustration but dang if you are a fan you must have seen at least one positive thing this year!
Any fool can circumnavigate the world sober...it takes a real sailor to do it drunk!!!

there are some positive things. the wide receiver coach seems to know his stuff and subs receivers very well but there are some that have the talent but dont play at receiver. not sure if its his doing or someone farther up. QB coach seems to be good. His background as a college athlete is very astounding and he looked qualified this year. offensive line coach does not seem like he knows how to coach. the prior Funderburk that was a much better coach. defensively, DB coach knows how to coach DBs even though he played Dline in college. He could be more vocal though. seems to keep things to himself that may help the team out when they need it. Linebacker coach is a young guy that coached some very young guys this year. havent really seen anything from him because this was his first year. the Dline or d-coordinator coach. he had great talent on dline this  year but his play calling may not be that good. they ran a 4-2-5 and only blitzed their backers. they have changed their d every year for the past three years. maybe next year they will run a 5-2. head coach is the one i have the problem with. every game except the last he called a time out to give a pep talk that turned out to never help and sometimes hurt them late in the first half. and after watching some games unfold this year the team's lack of discipline is from the coaching. if the coaches dont discipline them and punish them for things then how are they gonna control the players when the game gets dirty. second of all from seeing the team they fielded this year, it is apparent that they have no idea what lifting weights. other then a few they are small and weak and it showed in short yardage scenarios. the past four season has not seen a winning season while they have had plenty of talent. the most positive thing would be the players winning the game against CNU. there were not too many great coaching calls during that game just players playing the hearts out and Leary playing his last game like its supposed to be played.
