Have not been on here much lately, but I just went back and reviewed the last three pages, and while I do not know where Ogun has or will end up, I know that he will not be in the backfield at CNU. For 7 teams, that is welcome news. He was a beast at CNU, and I wish him all the best, but can we start talking about the upcoming season.

Who looks good for 2010? Who has a lot of holes to fill? I obviously try to keep up with Ferrum, and while they lost some key personnel, I am hearing good things about them. Not sure what they will do at QB, as Dobson graduated, and their #2 QB from last year transferred. RB's should be solid, and Defensive line has everybody back...i think. O line took some hits, and LB's have experience, but the loss of Maureik Goode will hurt. I don't have much info on the safeties and corner backs.....Kicking game will be solid.
Over all I think they will be competitive, but just to what degree is still a question.

Ok, what about .....Uh  Shenandoah, or maybe Maryville? Anybody else please jump in.....but lets focus on the season ahead.

Yes, let's. Where will Ogun be playing in the season ahead? His biggest booster has told us it's somewhere, but won't say where.

Anyone have a sense for how Hampton-Sydney will be in 2010?  I believe its going to be a tough opener for Averett.

Looking at their roster, who graduated who's back etc. they look like to be awfully tough again this year, especially on defense. Have a couple of preseason A.A. at defensive end and safety.  AU is going to get a pretty good "gut check" right out the gate.

Not a "must win" game especially since its out of conference but probably a "must compete". If AU can compete with H.S. regardless of getting a win think that would be a pretty good sign for the season to come. One thing about it, going to get a lot of questions answered pretty quick by opening against H.S.

They all must be watching the "Human Centipede" a true sign of the end of the world.  ;)

Everybody is tied for 1st place right now.....but if Ferrum loses than it's all good. Sorry but I had to bust on Allen C

Got this from Maryville.

"The Maryville College Athletic Department announced today that its Scots Broadcasting Network will partner with the online video company Knox ivi to offer Maryville College fans a variety of live internet video broadcasts of games, both home and away.
Plans are being implemented to broadcast approximately 80 athletic events during the 2010-2011 academic year, beginning with the USA South Athletic Conference's Football Media Day hosted Aug. 3 at the College.
Knox ivi is an award-winning Internet video broadcast network featuring local content that aims to connect the people of Knoxville and East Tennessee with each other through high-definition video technology, innovative production capabilities and original programming."

So I hope that means the sound and I think temporary black outs will not be a problem, but then again people step on cables and wires come out or don't get plugged in the right spot.

Here's my big three pre-season question marks
1)Where is MC's run game after losing two very productive seniors in Hightower and Moore, plus the O-line depth issue.

2)Can CNU get back on track with the right quarterback?

3) How far along is Greensboro in the rebuilding process? If they make as big a jump from year one to two under the new regime as they did from zero, are they in contention?

Good hearing from you Batteredbard and I'm excited that we are hosting (after a 1 year delay) Media Day for the USA-South Conference.  I'm hearing MC is planning to put on a good show for the event.

Darryl Tate has been waiting in the wings for the past 3 years at RB and expect him to play well.  To be honest with you, I didn't think too much about MC's running attack last year.  Too inexperienced up front.  I though Tate was the most physical RB last year, but didn't get enough running opportunities.

Here's my preseason picks:

1)  NCW  -  still returning many good players from last year
2)  CNU -  By not relying solely on the run, they will be more balanced this season on offense.  Got alot to prove after going 5-5 last season.
3)  MC -  Many good players returning in the skill positions on offense.  Need to replace LB Chewning on defense.
4)  Ferrum  -  Vann returns on offense (has he turned 30 yet).  Seems like he's been there forever.  Always a physical team.
5)  Averett -  Always seems to get the most of their out of their players.  Usually gets better as the season goes on.
6)  SU  -  A scary team if they ever get it figured out.  A physical running game and a tough defense could get them ranked higher by the end of the season.
7)  GC   -  A great job coaching last season for GC, but can they repeat the same type of season after losing their offensive coordinator.
8)  Methodist - Hope they win alot of games in Coach S last season, but lost alot of players from a 3-7 team.

Hey Everyone,

Can it get any hotter.......they say it will this weekend......If it snowed right now, I would lay down and roll in it the length of the field and back. I hope it cools down some before training camp opens....

I want to go ahead and put my neck out on the chopping block and predict that Averett will be in the top 3 this year if not number 1. My son met up with several other grads this past weekend and seems everyone is excited but not saying why. Could be they drank too much and was reliving 2006 again but just in case they did know what they were talking about I will make the prediction.

Just to keep it lively, Chris said most of the guys were over weight and out of shape big time. Could be too many long necks and fast food over the past 18 months.

Allen C

OK, well here is where I think the USA South teams will end up.

1.  NCW- They seem deep, and though they lost some players, they will still be strong.

2   CNU- It should be an interesting year- Is Long back at QB?

3. Averett- Will be strong, but may finish just out of the running.

4.  Shenandoah- I can't help but believe that they show big gains. Avg. losses were only 3.6 points. Strong recruiting efforts this season.

5. GC - Some holes to fill- but could be better than I expect.

6. Ferrum- MANY MANY Holes to fill. I am hoping that this is not the case, and that they finish in the top 4, but it will be an uphill climb.

7.  Maryville- Just worried that they will hit a bumpy road early- This is always a good team. Will improve as the season goes on.

8.  Methodist- Not there this year-Team in transition. Will be similar to last year.

Obviously I would like to see the Panthers on top, but I have reservations about some things. Just my prediction- take nothing personally.

Thanks (and +1) for the USA South updates and predictions.  Since Guilford plays (and recruits against) so many of the USASAC's teams, I feel GCQ ought to be an honorary member.  :)  We open with Greensboro and Methodist at home and then go to Danville to take on Averett.  The Quakers haven't played Ferrum in several years, but geographically that's also a convenient match-up.  We've played Maryville in the past, but, as far as I know, Guilford's never faced CNU, Shenandoah or NCWC in football.

Let the games begin!
