I agree with KickerDad.  Although I'm sure Averett will probably be picked 4 or 5th on media day because other schools are more fashionable, but there is no reason to think they don't have the ability to win the conference this year.

They have the best return specialist/WR in Dixon (2nd All-American '09 and 2nd team preseason All-American in '10, the only USASAC player so designated) and best returning QB.  If Shaw (Off. Coord.) opens up the passing game, they should be very explosive.

The offensive line, which was a point of concern at times last year will be greatly improved.  Defensely, particularly against the pass, will be tough.

As always, depth and injuries (lack of) will be key for Averett and any of the teams.  But with that said, it really doesn't matter what any of us think, that's why they play the games.

I haven't heard much from CNU this summer......there doesn't seem to be much excitement. Could be they are a little ticked at 5-5 and keeping things quiet and focused. Long is working his knee to get back in time. I hope he does. CNU doesn't finish 5-5 last year if he played all year. I'm not sure how this year will go. The first game is gonna be a killer.....#3 Wesley. Ugh! At least it's at home!

narch

the monarchs won't finish in last place...never have, and this won't be the year...not predicting a first-place finish with all the losses, but i don't see this team finishing last...just my $.02

Hey CNU,

Is this just a 1 and 1 or is this gonna be a yearly thing vs. Wesley?

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - The annual USA South Football Media Day will be hosted on the Maryville College campus in Maryville, Tennessee and take place on Tuesday, August 3rd at 11:00 a.m. Each of the Conference's eight football coaches will address the media and give their thoughts on the upcoming football season.

Hey CNU,

Is this just a 1 and 1 or is this gonna be a yearly thing vs. Wesley?

not sure. a lot depends on future conference alignments and the acfc. I'm clueless on what is going on there, but i would imagine both Salisbury and Wesley are tired of playing iin a conference without an AQ

Interesting. I just looked at all the rosters for the UFL. Omaha only lists one player, Ahman Green on roster...but....on the other 4 teams.....nobody from D3 and only one NAIA player.

AUPOP

I dont like to make picks for placing, dont want to seem like I am insulting anyone but just a couple of thoughts:

SU: had to be the most snake bit team I ever saw. Easily could have been 6-4 if they had any luck at all. Have 61 recruits coming in. They could be the conference's dark horse. Couple key players, Just a little luck who knows.

NCW: Looking at the roster lost Jordan, Webb, Haywood and Bush. Thats like a millions yards and a gazillion points. Can the offense be as explosive with all those guys gone?  Man, I hope not.

CNU: Talked with a few of their guys over the summer.....slow boil best described their mentality, I suspect they will be back with a vengence. Lots of frustration needing to be let out. Legister takes over for Ogun. Havnt really seen him play since high school, different style but a good back. He's not going to run over you like Ogun did,  but your going to leave your shoes and socks on the field a few times trying to tackle him.

AU: Lots of anticipation for this season. Defense is solid, especially against the pass. Offense can be better than last year. O line will be better but not deep, they will need to stay healthy to make a run. Have to find a running back but have like 12 or 13 coming in so should be ok.  Need to play to their strengths, put it in the air and score. If O line can consistently give the QB time to throw they will be a very dangerous offense.

Best of luck guys.......is it kick off time yet?

I'm looking forward to the season and hopefully the reemergence of CNU to the top of the standings.  My preseason pick is NCWC, they seem to have the right attitude and always play hard.  Hopefully CNU has the right attitude and will play hard in every game.  If they do, then I can see them being on the top.  I hope last year was a wake-up call for the Captains and they bounce back and play hard in every game (last year I'm not sure that was the case for every game). I also agree with AUPOP that SU could be a dark horse and Allen C that Averett and Greensboro could be tougher than expected.

As for my brother, he was cleared to start running earlier this month and has maintained a regular running regimen ever since.  He is not yet 100%, but he is working hard to get back ahead of schedule.  Whether he plays QB or not is up to the coaching staff.  I know he would love to play safety, but he wants to win more than anything so he will do what's best for the team.

AUPOP, I never saw Legister play in HS, but from what I have seen in his time at CNU I do think he is a power back.  I was impressed with how he ran when given the opportunity the last 2 years and I think he will turn out to be a great back.  I also hope they feature Keith Gaines a little more.  He is an explosive player that would be a good 1-2 punch with Legister.

ProudFightingScot, I believe the Wesley contract might be a 2 and 2, but I'm not 100% sure.  I know there was discussion whether it should be a 2-year or 4-year contract.  I know that if it is a 1 and 1, CNU would probably try to fill the schedule with another elite opponent.

The Quakers haven't played Ferrum in several years, but geographically that's also a convenient match-up.

I would love to see Ferrum drop this game with Southern Virginia University- They need an NCAA opponent, not an NAIA. Its just not helping them in the long run.
BEWARE THE BLACK HATS!

CNUALUM9, didnt mean to imply Legister lacks power, he doesn't. Never was shy about contact. Just remember him making some ankle breaking cuts back in the day. Left many a defender with that ' deer in the headlights" look.

Always like seeing the local kids do well, sure Legister will have a great season....just hoping not to great on October 9th.

Ironically, the Quakers have played SVU for about 5 years in a row.  I'm not sure what happened to put an end to the FC/GCQ series.

Well if you want to play Ferrum then you want to get hit because those boys bring the hat. It's a good thing to play somebody who will try to hurt you. Cowboy you up quick

I agree.  Guilford's beaten FC some, but when we lose, it's usually ugly.  I remember one trip to Ferrum a number of years back where GCQ went in 4-0 and lost badly, like 45-0.  And don't even get me started on a game I saw at GCQ where Chris Warren was a Panther after losing his DI scholarship at UVa.  He was a future NFL star at a small school - yikes!

I've heard from more than one person that Legister will not be back.
