WFU, dont know if you are making the scrimmage today but if so how about an update later. Have to much going on to be able to get down to Danville. Heard earlied in the week that half the starting O line may be setting this one out, not sure if that is still the case. If so sure it will have some effect. Very anxious to hear about the running game. Heard ealier in camp that there was a transfer in that was really turning some heads.

Thanks

AUPop - was really only there for a brief time for the E&H scrimmage (they didn't get started until 5:30).  For the portion I was there it was basically a practice session for both team, i.e., NFL style when two teams train together.

At opposite ends of the field were the respective offense and defenses going against each other, 7 on 7 passing, goal line drills, kicking (FG & Extra points).  Couple good pops during those sessions but difficult to judge.  Understood later it was more like a "game scrimmage" and at least one time Averett drove it the lenght of the field, converting several 3rd downs.

There is a new running back that transferred in, (believe it was Concord, D-II).  Good size to him but really could tell much from the brief time I was there.  He has been very good in practice however.

The expectations should be high but the first game will be a challenge right out of the box.

Thanks WFU, from what I got today it was a very limited as far as "game play". Not much to talk about although I was told that the AU kicker hit a 56 yarder. Where you at KickerDad, thats got to bring a smile to your face....

Sounds like the o line is pretty banged up. Doubtful Kyle will be back next week, not sure about Phil and guess Kevin is nursing a bad shoulder. Going to make a tuff job a lot tougher next week.

So as for this weeks picks, I thought I would get the ball rolling-

Winner is in Bold

Maryville @ Huntingdon     Should be a good day for the Scots

Hampden - Sydney @ Averett  Tigers too much for the Cougars

Emory and Henry @ Ferrum  A toss up- May be OT. Special Teams crucial

Wesley @ CNU  Wolverines Roll Big

Randolph Macon @ Methodist    Jackets are too strong

NC Wesleyan @ Salisbury  Bishops out matched this time.

Greensboro @ Guilford  Pride survives in a close one

Catholic @ Shenandoah  Hornets win easily
BEWARE THE BLACK HATS!

AUPOP

Maryville
AU
Ferrum
Wesley
RM
Salisbury
Guilford
Shenandoah

GuyFormerlyPSBBG

Maryville
Hampden-Sydney-(I guess that means AU probably isn't going to lose much more after that, if they are the predicted conference champs)
Ferrum- I think will win big
Wesley
Randolph-Macon
NCWC-probably should go with Salisbury.
Greensboro-duh!
Shenandoah

I was in a fender bender this morning.  The accident either knocked screws loose, or knocked some sense into me.  I will blame my picks on that either way.

Picks for Opening Week

Maryville over Huntingdon
H-S over Averett (hurts to pick but AU is not going to be at full strength at a couple of key offensive positions)
E-H over Ferrum
Wesley over CNU
Randy Macon over Methodist
Salisbury over NCWU
Greensboro over Guilford
Shenandoah (Jimmy Stewart didn't lose in the movie) over Catholic

Pat Coleman

If you guys want to do picks, please use a separate board in the pick'ems section. (It's a whole section under National topics. Create a USAC board if there isn't one already.)

WFU, AUPOP, et al....! Greetings..! I attended the entire scrimmage on Saturday and agree with WFU's assessment completely. From the Wasper perspective, I was really impressed with Averett's q-b and running back. The q-b had good field presense and had an arm like a rifle. The running back was a tank.To be so big, he ran extremely well. If I were a Cougar, I'd worry about the o-line. I understand that there have been some injuries. That will have to be fixed before HSC. They are animals. Is the Averett kicker human? Did I see him kick a 60 yarder? If not, it was close. He'll win some games for you.

SORRY...I ran out of room. It was hard for me to tell anything about the Averett D. Wasper first string scored on 1st possession in 5 plays. 4 were passes. Jennings touched to ball only for a 3 yd push to score. The starters got only about 12 reps. Averett D-line is big. They can fill holes. Can they move? I don't know. My amateur assessment is that both Averett and Emory have some goods things to look forward to. It was HOT, but it was FUN!! Best of luck for a great season. WM

NCW must be getting all those speed merchants down by the coast because GC and GC-Q did not even sniff around down there. Speed kills

I have no idea myself at this time who they picked up. Haven't seen a practice or roster.  I have a feeling the offense will be rather young and inexperienced. As much as I would like to agree with the coaches poll, I think it may be a struggle to acheive. Should be an interesting year for all :)

You never know what might happen any given year. Go MU!!! I can't wait to see some football. I might even try to sneak in the locker room and throw on that #2 again. I think I have at least a half in me.
