Narch, all great points.

You are right on about ODU not having beat anyone of consequence.  I am interested to see how they will do this Saturday again William and Mary.  I would guess not very well, but we will see.

I agree to an extent that "most" student athletes at MU would get into CNU, however I bet the majority of your "most" would not be playing football.  Also, you are right in stating that the larger size of CNU's incoming freshman class would allow to "hide" the exceptions and still not bring down the overall GPA and SAT numbers down that much.  However, I would contend that the "exeptions" at CNU are not granted for applicants with scores as low as at, for example, NCWC.

I could not find exact numbers but this is from the admissions page on NCWC website...

"Typically, students should have a 2.7 GPA and an 800 SAT score or a 17 Composite score on the ACT to be regularly accepted into NCWC."

An applicant with that GPA and SAT score would be doing nothing but wasting an application fee in applying to CNU.  If that is what is "regularly accepted at NCWC, then would would qualify as an exeption?  Per CNU's website, the average GPA and SAT score for incoming freshman is 3.6 and 1200.  An exeption to to that requirement would probably fall more in line with MU's avg scores for incoming freshman, which per their website are 3.28 and 990

All that being said, CNU still has a significant advantage in cost and facilities.  While that is a huge deal in winning athletes that could get into any USA South school they wanted to, it doesnt help at all the prospective student athletes who have no chance to be giving an "exeption, and therefore have to go to say, NCWC.

Narch made good points! Overall cost is a major factor as well as GPA. As far as NCWC is concerned, the GPA required is not out of line with many schools of its size, including a great number of private schools. CNU is shooting itself in the foot in football due to GPA, but as far as NCWC is concerned, like MU, Maryville, or any other private school, they are not cheap to attend. Having said that and as an old Bishop, NCWC is very selective in their choice of athletes, and it is not all based upon the GPA. Having said that, maintaining a GPA in order to play is much more difficult to obtain than gettin in. Hey, we will take all we can get if they meet the requirements and can meet the costs of attending, character, and other requirements. Heck, we're still playing in a high school stadium!

not related to board, entirely. But......I am SO TIRED of hearing about ODU football! I hope W&M beats them like rented mules....76-0 would be good. Trivia for out of area fans - ODU and CNU were once a part of W&M.

How are you tired of something that just got started. Give them credit for starting a program.

That's my point. They've had a team for a year and a couple of games......I work in Norfolk....you'd think they were defending National Champs. They had a good record last year, but played mostly D2 schools......

Sounds like Averett has things under control. Anyone head a ECU - VT score. I am pulling for ECU.

CNU starts year 0-3. Turnovers and mental errors kill. Lots of good things happened. A week off, then conference play. Congrats to Frostburg.

Ferrum 17

Ferrum kicker 1 of 5 on FG's.

Ferrum gave up 2 fumbles, and one int. The int was returned 70 yards for a score.

Averett won against a not very good Guilford team today (I may be wrong but haven't the majority out of conference victories so far been against Guilford?).

Looking down the road, after 3 weeks the league's out of conference results are pitiful.  The USA South Athletic conference champs will be at best an 8 seed in the playoffs (because there isn't any lower & thank goodness for an automatic bid).

As for the reasons, why certain programs are down this year, i.e., expense, GPA's, etc., other top flight programs in other parts of the country have the same challenges.  Is John Hopkins more known for its football or medical school.

MC 20    LaGrange 17     3 OT

What a gutsy game by the Fighting Scots.  LaGrange defeat Millsaps last week who went to the playoffs lasted season.  MC started a freshman QB (Conner is out for the season with a shoulder injury) & WR Idlette played only 4 plays because of an injury.  0-0 game at halftime.  Great job by defense. Offense had to fight for every yard they gained in 2nd half.  MC goes up 10-7 with 6 minutes left and LaGrange drives to MC's 5 yard line w/ 1 minute left in game.  MC's defense holds LaGrange to a field goal.  LaGrange scores TD in 1st OT.  MC converts a 4th & 16 on their drive which QB Williams hits Idlette for 5 yard TD pass.  MC throws an INT in 2nd OT, but LaGrange's kicker misses FG.  LaGrange starts the 3rd OT by missing another FG.  MC wraps up a win with a FG by Naboa.

I believe this is the 11th OT game in the 8 years Coach I has been the HC.

Great win & off week comes at a good time to get the many injured players healthy.

PS - Our conference needs to thank Guilford.   Only 4 wins by the entire conference and 3 were against Guilford.  Any way we can get them on our schedule this year....... :D    :D     :D
