Guy former pride.

The Greensboro Guilford Game is a true rivalry.  You wouldn't understand if you never played it.  It is without a doubt the most important games for each year.  I wish it had remained the last game of the schedule for both teams.
Me too.

I agree with you.  I believe it is a true rivalry.  I don't think the students at Guilford believe it to be as much of a rival as the students at Greensboro.

I think if the schools were the same size it would be a different story.  Greensboro's student body has a higher % of student athletes compared to Guilford's student body.

When you see these games you really see the athletes from both schools.  For Greensboro you see a bigger chunk of the student body attend.  When you throw in the students that played sports in high school, but not in college, I bet you are seeing in the upwards of 60% of the students vs maybe about 40% at Guilford.

Alumni numbers are a completely different story.

I played for Greensboro and coached at Guilford so I know first hand how important the game is.  Is it important for the entire student body.  No.  It isn't the big 12 so you aren't going to have every one invested.  The food drive doest do a great job of getting people in that normally wouldn't attend.  While I was at Greensboro I think we won 3 of 4 and what a great feeling to see the quakers in the mall or the beach and know that we kicked that ass.  I even am friends with a few of them and know for a fact that I gave (now a friend of mine) a concussion in the Soup Bowl (not souper bowl) Soup Bowl.  The point being in the USAC there is not a bigger rivalry than this.  More may be on the line for cnu/ ferrum or cnu/ anyone but no game compares to the soup bowl.  Two schools and the same city.  Its about Pride.

Has Southern Virginia been accepted to the conference? Just was wondering if they will be the replacement for SU? Thanks!

Pat Coleman

It's a little premature -- Southern Virginia isn't even a provisional member of Division III yet.

I drove through that campus earlier this summer. Southern Virginia seems to have a long way to go.

got my first glimpse of the monarchs today in a scrimmage vs. louisburg - #1 offense looked pretty good, driving the ball 70+ yards for a score on the first drive and moving it well before stalling on the second drive - flannagan did not play, but there were a couple of rb's that looked really nice...both had a burst that he doesn't have (although neither are as powerful) - a couple of the top wr's didn't play either, but mu looks deep there - murphy looks like he's poised to grab the starting spot...he made a couple of nice plays outside of the pocket and made good decisions in the pocket - frosh max reber got some reps early, as well, and showed a lot of athletic ability...he's quick...needs to develop as a passer, but he can run

defense was another issue altogether...they couldn't stop the hurricanes, at all - there is a long way to go for the defenders - that being said, lc is a solid junior college program with a number of scholarship players...the hurricane ol was HUGE, and they had a wr who was at least 6'4"/190 and could flat out run - mu won't see a bigger, more athletic team this year

realistically, this is a 4 to 6 win team...and if it's the latter, i'll take it :)

i can't wait for real football to start!

Warren is big time. Should be good all around. Its good thing for Warren I graduated from Lees-McRe in 1977 or I he would have had to pull his cleats out of my facemask.............. :)

Chris ran over a lot of people those two seasons at Ferrum!  I remember one tremendous butt-kicking for the Quakers in Greensboro during that span.  :(  Warren was obviously a D-I/NFL talent who, for a lot of reasons, ended up at Ferrum when things didn't pan out in Charlottesville.  He was almost impossible for most DIII teams to stop - at least until deep in the playoffs.

Preview is up for the GC vs GC game.

I am actually interested in seeing the Quakers defense.  There has been some talk of this unique 4-2-5 system.

Preview says Greensboro's offense will be handed over to a freshman QB. (Looks solid, based on the YouTube highlights.) I am excited to watch this game, even if it is on my laptop a couple 1000 miles away.

Is the overall record still 7-7 even though one of GCP's wins was later a forfeit?  How does that work?

Soup Bowl food drive is now in session.  These are Guilford's "ways to give" and Greensboro has similar options:
