Enjoy - I don't believe the USASAC will win two of the three next season.  Guilford is improving - a lot.  I think an 0-10 season will belong to a team from the USASAC in 2011.

Was at the Ferrum @ HSC game yesterday. While no one expected the Panthers to win, I was personally hopeful to see some real positives come out of the game. For this I was not disappointed. Ferrum made good strides, and although they had a tough time stopping the QB of HSC....who by the way could be a machine, The Panthers did secure two interceptions and were able to put up 14 points. (Possibly could have been 21 if the ref had not completly ignored a pass interference in the end zone. Overall, it was a well called game by the officals.)
Penalties improved for FC, and they seemed to be more disciplined than in week 1. In the end they will grow from this loss.

CNU played their first nighttime home game this weekend.  They fell just short of beating the all time attendance record, and just short of upsetting #24 Salisbury University.  Long story short: the Gulls scored on their opening drive but not again until late in the half, CNU went into the break down 13-7.  The Captains came out strong and put up 16 straight points to take the lead.  CNU was up by 10 (23-13) with under 10 minutes to play, but could not hold on as Salisbury managed to find the endzone on their last two possessions.  It was certainly a helluva game, very fun to watch and be a part of.  I will say that the referees did not seem to be the most skilled crew, but then again I feel that way about almost every crew.  Their [Salisbury's] #59 jumped for a false start seemingly every other play and was not flagged for it all game; he was also not even on their roster.  Meh.

We fought hard, but couldn't hold on in the end.  The good news is that the schedule from here includes a visit from the bye week and then the start of the USAC schedule, where CNU is looking to repeat as champions.

Our QB (Christian Woelful-Monsivais) looked good, or at least much better than in the opener.  Running back Stovall picked up about 100 yards on 27 carries, not bad considering Salisbury has a top-5 rated rush defense.

Capt. Bob,

I'm pretty sure we had the ball up 10 points with more like 5 minutes to go. It was just sickening. It was the same story as game 1 and 2. Were winning and had a chance to put the game out of reach but just couldnt get a drive together. Luckily we held on to win game 1. It's like we don't know how to play with the lead. Good teams put together that final drive that eats up the clock and ices the game. CNU has yet to do that in 3 straight games. Each of which we had a 4th quarter lead.

So after 3 games, we have shown we hang hang with teams. I guess it could be worse. We just need to swing the axe when their heads are on the chopping block. Frustrating to say the least.

as an outsider, it also appears that cnu is playing to the level of the competition - playing salisbury so tight is almost as surprising as losing to stevenson - i'm sure it's frustrating as a fan, but the take-away from this past weekend is a lot more positive than the previous

the monarch game this weekend will tell me a bit more about this team...i expected the loss to rmc and i thought mu had a good shot of beating gcq - ehc gave the monarchs a pretty sound thumping last year, and despite losing jennings and relying on the passing game more than they have for the last few years, they appear to have picked up where they left off last year...if the monarchs can get a "w" this weekend, it could be a good omen for the conference slate

23-13 with 4:33 to go.  :'(

I can't figure out this team. So close to 3-0. Yet 1-2. Oh well, a week off and then the next game. Let the fun begin!

mu leads ehc 17-10 at halftime...the wasps had 1st and goal inside the mu 5 and the defense stood tall and gave up just a fg

Looks like it might be a long season for my Bishops :'(
The only easy day was yesterday

Captain Bob

Ferrum had the only USAC win of the weekend.  We're up to 5 teams with a 2-1 record overall (the others being 0-3) heading into conference play next weekend.   :-\

Just got in from F'ville ... Narch, I am happy and thankful for the check in "W" column. From my vantage point, MU seemed starved ... my Waspers did not. I know all about moral victories and what they get you. BUT, MU showed their fans and opponents some true grit. I hope that you are proud of them. Without a couple of ints and some senseless penalties, the outcome would have been much different. Thanks to MU for a great afternoon. Everyone was pleasant and most hospitable. Really liked to see the band march in. On to Ashland - WM

waspermike - glad you had a good trip to the 'ville...just not so glad you and your wasps left with a "w"

lots of penalties for the monarchs...15 for 128 per the box score (vs. 1 for 15 for the wasps) and a tough day for the long-snapper may have been the difference in the game - the monarchs can't shoot themselves in the foot like they did today if they want to be a contender in the usasac

Looks like the team is on the cusp of some great things. I had a great conversation with a member of the Admissions Department. He is very enthusiastic about things going on at the campus and with the football team. It shows. Best of luck for the remainder of the season. WM

I think you mean 5 teams with a 1-2 record.

Ferrum seemed to dominate both sides of the ball against the Eagles. Was not there, but to only give up 2 FG's is hopefully an indicator of things to come. Time for the conference play to begin!
