the monarchs were on the short end of a 23-6 score vs. the w&j presidents today, but i'm not sure what the take-away is...w&j is clearly the most historically significant team that has ever played in monarch stadium and mu was able to play them fairly close - there were a few plays that really made a difference in this game...mu was down 10-0 at the half, but had the ball just inside of the 1 yard line trying to attempt a fg as time ran out - they started the second half and were driving the ball, when vaughn cross had the ball stripped and returned 60+ yards to the MU 7 and w&j punched it in - two plays that really turned the game around...i'm not sure if the monarchs could have won the game, but had they been able to punch it in before half, and score on the first drive of the second half, the game may have been very different

i saw some things i really liked...reber is a tough little dude and a great leader - the wr's are talented, but need to be more consistent - and i saw some things i didn't like...too many penalties, inconsistent play from the o-line, soft coverages that gave w&j easy first downs

i'm not sure mu will play anyone as good as w&j this season...and they were able to compete - the qb/wr combo of #6 to #15 was as good as mu has probably ever seen, yet mu was able to keep them from any big plays - in all, a solid first game that could have potentially been very different with a few plays going the monarchs way

CNU85

CNU falls to #7 Salisbury 40-16. It was 13-7 at the half. And with about 4 minutes left in third it was 20-16. Then the wheels fell off the bus. Suddenly CNU wasn't making plays. Salisbury is way too good and took advantage of it and just destroyed CNU in the last 19 minutes. I can't wait to see the stat details. CNU did manage over 300 yards. SU had over 500.

Wesleydad-  if you can take an early lead you have good chance. And have your offense pick on SU DB #22. Rudy Rudolph had a good game. Noel dropped a few passes.

Listened to coach on radio after the game. Gonna be a harsh week of practice. He took full blame for not getting his team ready to play and promised it will not happen again. Rutrow!!

Congrats to SU. A very good team. I still hate the triple option. And I'm Italian like the SU tailback. Why am I slow???

Captain Bob

Full agreement with '85 on the game analysis.

The CNU defense played well at the end of the 2nd half, denying about 10 tries at the endzone over a 1-minute period due to some partial gains and a number of penalties on both sides, ending in a missed FG.  I felt like we had the momentum at the break.  CNU came out of halftime, forced a SU punt, and then made a long play (70 yards, ~60 after the catch) to tie the game.

Then, as '85 said, the wheels fell off.

SU scored again, taking the lead.  CNU drove to respond and got close, but were forced to take a FG instead.  The next drive took only about 1:12 for the Gulls to find the endzone again.  We just couldn't stop anything on that drive, and I think it took a lot out of us emotionally.  A lot of the guys on the sidelines were hanging their heads or no longer really paying attention.  The crowd (which had been great in the 1st half) started leaving pretty steadily after the end of the 3rd.

That drive, where SU scored with about 3:20 left in the 3rd to go up 27-16, was the turning point in the game where SU took control and never looked back.

At our game the other day people were saying to expect 15,000 people at the HSC/CNU game this weekend. Should be fun.

That would be interesting -- highest recorded attendance at a D3-D3 game is just short of that.

I think both teams fought hard for most of the game. As you mentioned, I believe late in the third, that's where CNU lost its will. I believe the game, which is becoming somewhat of a rivalry was good for both teams. I think Salisbury is going to improve and be way better on defense going forward. Regarding #22, I believe it was just first game jitters and playing against CNU definitely will prepare him for next week. Overall, I think that Salisbury has a good chance next week. We will see how things go...Again, good game by both teams last week and good luck to CNU in there match-up against HSC.

Next week at LaGrange, hopefully Huntingdon can rebound from the loss to B Southern. It went to the final play in this 45-38 game.

To fans of D-3 football everywhere.  I am honored to have been asked to spread the word regarding a new cancer fund that has been established to help Tom Pattison, UW-W sports broadcaster and founder of www.warhawkfootball.com    I and my family know, all to well, how a cancer diagnosis can be devastating to a families daily lives and finances. Please, consider making even the smallest donation to Tom.

The following is an open letter by Retired UW-W Coach Bob Berezowitz:

Team Tom Cancer Fund Drive established

Once a Warhawk, always a Warhawk are the often spoken words by Tom Pattison, longtime "voice" of the Warhawks. Over the many years of broadcasting UW-Whitewater football, basketball and baseball games on KOOL 106.5 (and prior to that (940 WFAW), Tom has "bled purple" during each one of his broadcasts.

Unfortunately, on May 28, 2012 Tom was diagnosed with advanced stage 2 colon cancer. He underwent colorectal cancer surgery in Fort Atkinson and in the process has developed astronomical hospital and medical bills.

Tom has already gone through the first phase of radiation treatment at the UW Cancer Clinic along with chemotherapy with phase two starting later this month.

Tom has given his heart and soul to Warhawk athletics over his 25 years of living here in southern Wisconsin. He served six years as the president of the UW-Whitewater Quarterback Club and still serves on the club's board of directors.

In 2003 Tom founded Warhawkfootball.com where Warhawk fans, players, former players and parents have been able to view up-to-date Warhawk football news and information 365 days a year. Nearly 1.5 million visitors have clicked onto the Website over the years.

The Website that has been funded entirely by Tom has been a popular "voice" for Warhawk football fans not only locally but around the world.

Well now Tom needs your assistance in his battle with cancer.

With the help and leadership of UW-Whitewater Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Paul Plinke and former Warhawk football coach Bob Berezowitz and KOOL 106.5 Radio a team has been set up to lead a campaign to raise funds for Tom.

The "Team Tom Cancer Fund" has been established through Commercial Bank in Whitewater and is now accepting donations.

Donations may be sent to: Team Tom Cancer Fund, c/o Commercial Bank, 200 South Freemont St. Whitewater, WI 53190

The fund raising drive will also include Tom Pattison Day at Perkins Stadium on Oct. 6, 2012. More details will be announced shortly.

"I have known Tom for many years while coaching and now in retirement," Berezowitz said. "There is not another person who has given more of himself to help promote UW-Whitewater football. He is always writing articles for both past and present players that are published on his Website.

It is now our turn to say "thank you" for his efforts by considering making a donation to the to assist Tom in his time of need.

CNU85

Just watched the CNU thrashing at the hands of HSC. HSC totally dominated. The final game stats look close but only because HSC played with class and called the dogs off after going up 42-0. CNU closes it to 42-20. But the game was never in doubt from the first snap.

And having been to HSC now, I really enjoyed your facilities. However, I must say you guys must not offer math classes. No way were there 7,000 people there. Not possible!! That stadium would be packed, every seat taken and people standing 2 deep around the roped sidelines. The home stands were barely half full. I say 3,000 tops with another 500 tailgating during the game. HSC stadium is much smaller than CNU and we pack the place and official attendance is about 4,500. HSC should sell tickets or hand them out and count.

But oh well, the Bly thing that really matters is that the CNU players are having a horrible bust ride home.

Box score http://www.hscathletics.com/sports/fball/2012-13/boxscores/20120908_bfj2.xml shows 7606 in attendance.  Doesn't indicate if a student or a math professor keeps the official count though.

CNU really brought support for their team to HSC today.  It was really a treat to see such an impressive marching band perform.  The support for the team reflected well on the strength of the program.  CNU is always a class act and those characteristics were on dispay today by the football team and fans.  Good luck the rest of the season.
