Please ignore "Purplesuit".......sometimes he gets a little too puffed up.  Looking forward to a good game, regardless of whether we exchange playbooks.

usasac all-conference teams are announced...no real surprises and nothing to debate, in my mind...i was a little surprised that gibson was not on the first-team, but looking at conference only numbers reveals that he gained over 100 yards less vs. conference teams than dukes/felder did and had the lowest ypc average among the three (although he did have 4 more td's than dukes in conference games) - i personally would have put bevans (biased opinion) and russell ahead of rudolph at wr, but the fact that those two had better qb's throwing them the ball may have swayed voters against them...being a #2 wr on a throwing team might not be as good as being a #1 wr on a running team, i guess - i know if i were starting a team, bevans' size (6'5")/speed combo would be attractive

here are the major awards

reynolds opoty and 1st team qb
carter from lagrange dpoty (i thought wade might have a chance with 13.5 sacks, 12.5 in conf, but carter had a great year on one of the best defenses in the conference)
dukes from cnu oroty
johnson from m'ville droty
young from gc coty

fc and cnu get 7 first-teamers - fc with a total of 14 and cnu with a total of 19

mu had 4 first-teamers and 13 overall all-conf performers

all 3 all-conference qb's are sophomores...should be an interesting remaining two years between those three

Hmmm...tough crowd. Just wanted to know a few of the players from a few fans... Obviously Mount is a heavy favorite but anything can happen.  ;D

Saturday is looking to be sunny and around 50.

aren't we saying the same thing here...if you were sure of a shutout, you'd be willing, not almost willing :)

Congrats to Coach Young and The Pride.

Great foundation season.

You never know what a game entails. This could easily be the Capains postgame speech.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWmQbk5h86w

Which is why, beyond the fact that I don't have serious money to fritter away like that, I am unwilling to commit to either a shutout or even a blowout.  Hell, I realize that it is even within the realm of possibility that UMU could lose.  YEAH, RIGHT!

Long time since I seen the Purple Dogs skulking about out of their lane talking "cash shi%". As my Great Grandmother used to say (on the hillbillie side). I never understood the Sicilian side

Man..... theaprof is ready for some fun

Admittedly CNU will be eviserated short of a TLAM strike at "the Mount"

I like Blutaski's avatar.

Anyway you guy sound like a lot of fun but Narch is the Cicero of this board and he must be treated as such..... ;)

I was assigned to Langley AFB at the time that CNU officially began its football program in 2001.  I was excited for the school because it was D3, and I remember listening to the Oyster Bowl win over Ferrum that launched the Captains into the playoffs after that inaugural season.  Ever since, I have been a geographically-separated fan and follower  ... no way that I could EVER cheer against the Captains ... UNLESS they square off against my beloved Purple Raiders!!!

Side Story:  During that time, my son gave the York H.S. football coach a Mount Union Purple Raider Football t-shirt; I believe it was following Mount Union's 2000 national championship, and the T-shirt listed all the championship years up to that point.  I saw Coach Ashley wearing it one evening at the school, and I made a comment, something to the effect of, "Nice shirt!"  Coach responded that he had it on one day when he was over at CNU, and Coach Kelchner saw it, pointed to it, and said, something to the effect of, "We want to be there someday!"  (I think he meant as a national champion and/or perennial D3 powerhouse, and not just "there," as in Alliance, like this Saturday! LOL!!)  So, should CNU ever get "too big for their britches" (in the future), I may just have to root against the Captains during a playoff run should they look to be a threat to Mount Union!!!

As for the drive to the D3 Football Center of the Universe:  I made that trip between York County and Alliance many, many times between 1999 and 2002, and it never got shorter or easier!  We would always jump off I-95 onto US-17 in Fredericksburg, and take that to I-66, to I-81, to I-70, to the PA Turnpike.  We also found route 522 between Winchester and Hancock, MD, to be a change of pace and seemed to save some time ... but not always.  Route 522 then connects you with I-70, and on to the PA Turnpike.  You can try I-68 to Morgantown, WV, and then up I-79 to various jumping-off points into Ohio, but it is a bit longer; however, it will save the turnpike tolls (round-trip for me last weekend was about $31.00).  I would only take the routing around Washington, D.C. if it was a holiday/weekend ... or dead of night.

I would like to be present and enjoy the game with you, but I am going to show my Purple Raider confidence and "scout" the Washington & Jefferson-Johns Hopkins game in Baltimore, instead (about 25 miles from where I live now), and then follow that winner to their "beat down" in Alliance the following Saturday.  (Now...  I just gotta see if the W&J faithful will let me sit with them ... wearing purple and all ... and it will NOT be that "Baltiless Raisins" shade of lavender-purple!!!)

Best wishes ... and safe travels ... to you all!

To be honest, the UMU defense may be even a little better than the statistics indicate......many times, late in games, points were scored when Mount was playing 3,4,5 level players.  With the playoff roster limitations, that can't occur.  There has been some serious conversation on the OAC boards about whether Mount's #2's could compete for the league championship.  Having been around the program for awhile (and having a son graduate in '10), it's an amazing situation--with a legendary coach.  I wish everyone "safe travels".....hope to have a good showing for the game.  Good Luck!

BTW...  It will be a tough loss for CNU should Coach Kelchner earn the Loch Haven position, but sometimes you gotta lose good men in order to realize/discover other good men.

I agree on the route.  My daughter is at W&M Law School, so we make the trip quite often--I would recommend the 522 route from Winchester up to 70 in PA.  We figure 9 hours from Alliance to Williamsburg.  The worst part of the trip is always 95 from Richmond to Fredricksburg.

Good Luck and Safe Travels!!  Having been born in KY and lived seven years in Virginia myself, I hope to meet some of y'all at the tailgate.
