To be honest, the UMU defense may be even a little better than the statistics indicate......
that's scary...they gave up 4.5 ppg and they might be better than that statistically - they give up under 160 yards per game - they're #1 vs. the run AND pass...is there any way cnu could score negative points ???

what is the over/under on how many times cnu crosses the 50? if vegas sets it at 3, i think theaprof will lay down some cash :)

From theaprof

"I agree on the route.  My daughter is at W&M Law School, so we make the trip quite often--I would recommend the 522 route from Winchester up to 70 in PA.  We figure 9 hours from Alliance to Williamsburg.  The worst part of the trip is always 95 from Richmond to Fredricksburg.

Good Luck and Safe Travels!!  Having been born in KY and lived seven years in Virginia myself, I hope to meet some of y'all at the tailgate."

theaprof,

Having traveled to Williamsburg for years and having been stationed in Norfolk many years
ago, the route you suggested to our upcoming visitors is the shortest, fastest and most
scenic! :)

with the reduced playoff rosters, I'll take the under

Sure, lemme just lay out which weapons are most effective for us. Would you like a copy of our playbook and play calling tendencies as well?

They could just watch the game film if they wanted, no need to get rude.

Dukes and Morrast are the most powerful weapons, followed by Stovall and Noel.

Moog is a guy to watch out for on defense, along with Navarro sneaking into the backfield.

As for play calling, look for us to run it up the middle twice, then either to the outside or a short pass attempt before punting.

It depends on how much cash. ::) ::)

Actually, while I understand that my earlier comment could be considered a little snarky, it wasn't meant to be.  I do really understand that the game must be played on Saturday and no one will know the outcome before that. And, while I am very confident in our team and especially our defense, I know that one blown coverage or one bad bounce could mean an awful lot in a playoff game.

Good luck to all--safe travels if you are heading this way--and let's hope for no injuries on either team!
Reloading--Again, and again, and again....

To be honest, the UMU defense may be even a little better than the statistics indicate......many times, late in games, points were scored when Mount was playing 3,4,5 level players.  With the playoff roster limitations, that can't occur.  There has been some serious conversation on the OAC boards about whether Mount's #2's could compete for the league championship.  Having been around the program for awhile (and having a son graduate in '10), it's an amazing situation--with a legendary coach.  I wish everyone "safe travels".....hope to have a good showing for the game.  Good Luck!

Not to be nit picky, but the most of the points have been scored on the starting defense.  Here's the 4 games that Mount has been scored upon:

Franklin:  7 points against the 2nd D
Heidelberg:  7 points against starters on opening drive / 7 on 2nd D in closing seconds
Baldwin Wallace:  7 points against starters in early 2nd quarter
John Carroll:   10 points against starters in first quarter & 7 points early 2nd quarter

Starters = 31 pts
Reserves = 14 pts

If anything, you're best chance to score is early.  The more Mount sees your offense, the better the defense has typically played this season.

Safe travels to all those heading to Alliance.   Hope you really enjoy your trip.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Please ignore "Purplesuit".......sometimes he gets a little too puffed up.  Looking forward to a good game, regardless of whether we exchange playbooks.

Actually, I thought it was funny!!

I just heard that City Council for Alliance voted to change the name of the town to Woodshed, Ohio. There have been a lot of beatings up there!! ;D

True, but it helps to offset the other scores that Mount was fortunate to have not surrendered, such as the 79 yd ONU pass against the #3's in the last minute.  Or the botched 29 yd FG attempt by Capital on the final play to break the shutout.

The key point is that the Mount defense is very good.  They're undersized up front, but extremely fast and aggressive.  CNU will be fortunate to move the ball with any consistency.  Scoring more than once it probably going to be tough.

A mistake; an old story that popped up first in Google!, with yesterday's date.  Even at the Daily Press web site I only saw the date on the banner, and not on the story.
My bad!

HScoach, I got a question, in the 4 seasons I really been paying attention,  I can't recall a what I would describe a BIG defensive line at UMU, sure, I've seen a few players that were good sized(one tall one and one thick one got swiped by the O-line this year-a big reason for more consistent O-line performance) ANYWAY, I assume at some point LK had big "traditional" sized D-lines. Was it a conscious decision to go smaller/faster philosophy? My kid's high school coach did that, went fast/small(a 5'7" 160 lb nose tackle-that made all state for example)    obviously not complaining and the results speak for themselves. That said, some OAC still go with 4 big boys on D-line.... you seem to be a historian on the program.......thought you might know

^ The philosophy changed when Vince took over the defense from Don Montgomery.  And the D today is light years ahead of where it was in the 1990's.  Mount used to be winning in spite of their defense.  There winning now because of it.
