CNU wins on the road at #16 Salisbury 17-10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Goose13

Congrats to the Captains!! Huge season opening win on the road at Salisbury and in the come from behind fashion too. 17-10 is your final. Marcus Morrast was 15-of-25 for 146 and two TD passes, including the game winner, an 18-yard pass to Paul Dukes with 15 seconds left in the fourth. Great way to start the season. Huge game next week in the home opener against Hampden-Sydney.

CNU85, great win for the captains.  defense was very very good.  they handled the option as good as i have seen wesley handle it.  lots to be excited about at CNU.  QB will need to improve a little on his accuracy, but the running back is strong.  looks like the captains could have a strong chance to win the league.  good luck the rest of the year and enjoy this win.

Thanks Wesleydad. I listened to game on radio. CNU defense was tough. Gave up 221 yds. 130 in first quarter. Gave up a TD on first drive, then shut them down. Offense was slow out of the gate down 7-0 at half. Then came out and dominated 3rd qt. SU only had three plays in third. CNU up 10-7 early in fourth. SU ties it up at 10-10 and then CNU drives and scores TD with 15 seconds left in game.

big win for the capts...the salisbury streaming video was good...didn't freeze up every 5 seconds...cnu looks like they could be dangerous this season

I thought about watching it. But the radio and video feeds are usually a play or 2 off and I decided to listen to CNU radio guys. Especially since I had lunch with them Thursday.

The Ferrum/E&H score surprises me a lot CNU pulling out the win was BIG for the conference.  MC ran a base offense today at Berry and won 37-0. A lot of time on the field for a lot of freshmen and they played well.
Obviously MC was a big favorite going into the game today, but watch out for Berry.  LOTS of great athletes. Won't be too far in the future for them to start winning some games.  Berry reported 6700 people at the game and there was every bit of it there. Great atmosphere for D3.

Congrats to those with wins in the opening weekend.  I did not get to see the Averett Game vs. Hampden-Sydney, but I heard there were some positives to take from the loss.  Looking forward to seeing what changes are made next week.
My most fond memories remain in Danville, VA.  AU!!!

Is Ferrum that bad this year or has E&H really improved? Was not expecting that kind of score from that game.

I was not expecting that either, but I am not sure about the answer to your question. Ferrum lost almost their entire secondary to graduation. The E&H qb is the real deal. It was obvious that they would throw, but Ferrum did not help their cause. Reynolds threw for three int's. I think it is a case that Ferrum will improve as the season goes on, but they are young. In the present they are iffy, but the future is bright. They had over 170 in camp, and I spoke with the coach a little over a week ago, and they have a Freshman qb that he said is as good if not better than any qb that has been there in a while.
Keepin the faith, and my fingers crossed.

narch, will you be at the Guilford/Methodist game on Saturday?  I'm considering the drive.

Okay, hope to see you there.

I've become accustomed to a somewhat non-partisan approach by the Public Address Announcer at most football games, so I was a bit surprised to hear the Greensboro announcer quite audibly say "Stick 'em, boys!" on a Guilford kick-off return.  Is this sort of "homer" instinct normal for a Public Address Announcer or did he inadvertently have his mic on?  lol

Didn't really surprise me, I was thinking that this Salisbury team mirrors that of their 2009 team. I felt as though CNU could actually beat them and they did. I went through the play-by-play and as many have already stated, they appeared to have dominated the line of scrimmage and shut the option down. Now, looking forward, H-SC is a total different ball game, I  am looking forward in how the Captains secondard is going to contend with H-SC passing attack.

Going with recent USAC history out of conference and how the entire conference has struggled I thought having an opening game at a top 20 was a sure fire loss for CNU. Not trying to talk bad about them, or take anything away, but numbers don't lie.  Most people, regardless of division, would have favored a 16 ranked team over a 58th ranked team in the first game of the year.  Great win for the Captains and I hope they, and the rest of the conference, win out OOC. This bull crap of starting week 4 with under .500 teams is bad.
