DGPugh

you are correct, Trinity went to the Stagg in 2002 (i had to look it up).
the rest of my 2005 story was correct..........................i think........, and as i said we lost to Trinity 10-15.

my memory of that year is the same as mine is of when i played ball....i am sure i scored many many touchdowns 40 yrs ago, and was a star..., but... i think i was a guard/center ? weird  ;D

thanks for making me go look it up, and thanks for being kind  :)

Murrvual... MURRVUL... the hawks got to go through.................... wait... iseems i do remember 2005... in the Hawks 3rd yr, they were 7-1, with the only loss to Trinity 15-10 (and Trinity that year went to the Stagg)...

We are going to the playoffs after only 3 yrs

we only got to beat Murrvul, who came to town ... and wrecked it  :(

Murrvul beat the Hawks 35-31..........................no playoffs

so, Hawk fans never ever dismiss Maryville College (who's O line Coach is my sons friend, and whos head coach recruited the boy (son) ;)

I remember that one like it was yesterday DGP. Unfortunately it isn't our only season ending loss where a win would have gotten us into the playoffs(or at least seriously considered for it). Last year vs. Adrian. The year before at Wesley. '08 at LaGrange.  :(

DGPugh

Last year's loss to Adrian hurt,....... but not as bad as the LaGrange...........
Only time LaGrange has beat the Hawks in varsity football, and it had to be when we could have won our first conference

And even worse.... you going and 'besmirching' or such the good name of the panther faithful

classic

i still laugh at that

Hey, if it helped one person sharpen their calendar reading skills then it was worth it.  ;)

Go Hawks!

DG,

I've noticed this a few weeks ago, but I figured now is the best time to address it..
THANK YOU for knowing how to pronounce Maryville.  Most people from other schools say 'Mary-ville' when locals and everyone else with a brain say MURVUL.  I'm glad at least 1 man in Alabama has a brain. ;)
I've had people ask me why we say it the way we do. Only answer I can give them is in an example. Do you say 'Mary-land' or 'Mara-lund'?

Never thought of it that way before, and +k for such a good example. I will say, however, that I noticed during the years I lived there most natives pronounce it Mer-lin (or pretty similarly).

Funny you say that..I grew up not too far from HSC and my grandfather said Mer-lin. But, he also had an all-around funny way to say things anyway.

I'll admit the whole Murvul/Maryville thing is a little petty, but when in Rome....

In all honesty, my fiance' makes fun of me when I say Merlin (Maryland) all the time.

Now you have me missing home a little. Growing up in Central VA, my family down here in TN always said we had a weird way of saying things, which I thought was a little hypocritical seeing how many East Tennesseans and North Georgians say 'yuns' instead of yall. But to each his own, I reckon.
