narch, congratulations to the Monarchs on a fine season.  I could tell they had something going this year when I watched them in Fayetteville on Sept 14.  :)

the monarchs still have a lot to play for...a win vs. ncwc this weekend would give them the mythical NC state championship, along with an 8-2 record...a loss puts a bit of a damper on a great season - i hope the boys will come out hungry and ready to play and equal the 2nd best record in school history - jacques alston from ncwc scares the heck out of me...that dude can score from anywhere on the field

on an individual note, i have a question for anyone who might care to answer - i mentioned that i thought reber should get serious consideration for all-region honors...does he have any shot at all-american honors? he stretched what was already an almost 20 yard per game lead in total offense and is likely to finish atop those standings for the season, barring a horrible final game - he is among the national leaders in almost every passing category (yards, completion percentage, td's, efficiency rating, etc.) and has thrown just 6 interceptions on the season - he has also rushed for over 600 yards and 4 td's for a team that will be 7-3 or 8-2

i've never given much thought to all-america consideration for a monarch offensive player, but i think reber should be the first...

and perhaps vaughn cross should be the second...he will likely finish among the top 5 nationally in receiving td's and among the top 10 in most other major receiving categories

I'd give him All-American consideration, but I don't know if he'll get much from guys that matter. He may, don't get me wrong, but I just don't know if he's had enough national recognition this year. He's just a junior too. If he doesn't get any consideration this year, hopefully he'll stay healthy and in school and has an even better year in 2014.

He's fun to watch. Very deserving of all-region honors, and I hope he gets it.

He's just a junior? Crap!!

I thought he was a senior earlier, but I checked the roster.  If he keeps a good chunk of his supporting cast, we're all screwed.

This is going to sound petty, and I wish it didn't, but then again, I don't really care that it does. This has ticked me off all season. It seems to me there is a cycle of 5 teams that get nominated every week, BUT...

Who picks the PlayOTW for the conference?

MC is sitting at 8-1, at least a share of the title, and has the AQ. They've put up scores like 35, 47, 48, 30, 47 again, and 53 in conference play, and have not had a single play of the week nomination.  This week's has a Greensboro play. What?!? Granted it was a blocked punt for a 34-yd score, but they lost 47-15. They lost. Call me a little Tony Ierulli old school, but when you lose a game by 32, no accolades should be given. Of course, I'm not trying to take anything away from the GC player that made the play; it was a good play and showed that the Pride has pride throughout a game no matter the circumstance. It was not the player's fault they lost the game. GC went for it on 4th down 9 times. Made 4. That's how you lose a ball game by 32 and not have the other team gain 400 yards of total offense. They even went for it 4th and over 20 or so. WITH AN OPTION PLAY in the first quarter.

MC stripped a KOR and returned that for a TD in the first quarter to put them up 14-0 early. That's a similar type play on special teams that actually made a difference in the course of a conference game. Which is a surprise because our kicking game is severely lacking.

If not that play, how about the plethora of defensive plays they made. My God. They must have done something right. Throndset was limited to 113 yards and no TD a week after breaking all kinds of conference records.

Sorry for the ranting, but I had to get that off my chest. If anyone has an answer or comment, or wants to tell me to shove it, feel free.

***I'll add one more thing: I'm not taking offense with the teams that seem to be nominated every week. They make some pretty dang good plays. They should be proud of themselves for making big time plays.

Smell the roses. You are going to the playoffs for the first time in school history. Who gives a damn about the play of the week. You are going to give yourself an attack of over something nobody cares about. Chill and enjoy the 2013 season !!

TFA, you need an award for the nicest "shove it" statement in history.

You're right. I should be planning this playoff trip anyway.
I read a few minutes ago on yall's board about a possible ODAC champ coming down here ***if Huntingdon doesn't spoil week 11 for us***. I don't think that'll happen, but if it does and HSC wins The Game (and I'll be rooting for the hometown team this week) and the bid, if you've never been down in these parts, I suggest making a whole weekend affair out of it.  Maryville is just shy of heaven this time of year.

Scots that was me and I would say that is bottom of the barrel unlikely, I was just making a case about how big a 500 mile circle is for the ODAC and some of the likely to extremely unlikely possibilities. I'd bet Maryville is either Millsaps or Belton bound, no one but Millsaps or the two ODAC possibilities are in the radius and it doesn't make sense to leave too many orphans floating around. Johns Hopkins comes up as 542 miles. But with the NCAA it is just too hard to tell.

Scots13

I hope it's Millsaps and not UMHB. I think in this week's podcast it was thrown around that Redlands might make the trip to Belton.

JHU is 542 miles from Maryville?

What's the link to the NCAA distance list?

Good luck 13.  :) I also sensed a tremor in the force when you went on your soliloquy.  ;)

Thank you. Hopefully there won't be any cause for tremors in the force during the first round. I at least hope we make it to the second round.

It's 7:20 and pitch black outside. Can't hone my lumberjacking skills so I need something to drive me nuts/have fun with.

if you are asking who chooses the plays to be voted upon, i think it's the athletic department at the respective school...if you are asking who chooses the best of those plays...it's voted on by fans

that said, i'm disappointed that there were no  monarch highlights...

Scots13

I had a feeling athletic departments at each school sent in a play, but someone has to make the call on which 3 make the final cut.  At any rate, TigerFan has shown me the error of my ways. He's right; it's doesn't really matter. I was brash. Should've not said anything about it.

But speaking of plays of the week, I came across this nice little memory (at least for my guys  ;)) the other day. It was the d3football POTW and really started the recent rivalry with MU, at least the years I was there and this year.

ncaa statistics were updated this afternoon...a few observations about qb statistics

reber ranks #1 in total yards, eclipsing the #2 qb by more than 35 yards per game

reber is 4th in passing yardage, yet has fewer attempts than every other qb in the top 12...by far, in most cases

reber's 25 td tosses rank 10th nationally, as does his pass efficiency rating

reber ranks 17th nationally in points responsible for

reber's 606 rushing yards rank 21st nationally among qb's

i looked at the 4 qb's named d3football.com all-americans last year, and they all had something in common...each of them played more than 10 games, meaning they all led their teams to the playoffs - 2 played 14 games, 1 played 15 games and the other played 12

reber's per game numbers compare well with each of these qb's, though...his pass yardage/game is higher (by far) than all 4, his rush yards/game is 2nd among this group, his total yards/game is 83 yards per game than the next best and his total td's per game is first among the group - i realize that some of these guys played portions of many games as their teams rested them in the 4th quarter of blowouts, but i'm thinking that reber might have an outside shot at being a 4th teamer...maybe...
