I was surprised to learn of Nash's selection as well, simply because of the turnovers. That said, he is very good and did compete well against Linfield, the #2 team in the country at the time. Maybe that was the difference maker, I really don't know. There is always next year and I'm certain both of these guys will be on the radar for local, regional and national selections if they can dupicate their efforts in the 2014 season.

Not well. I was at the UMHB game. He shouldn't have been out there and in fact, he rarely was.
and yet he was the leading receiver for wesley in that game with 4 catches for 32 yards...that game was sure a clunker for the wolverines offense...callahan, one of the best qb's in the country, went 9-28 for 136 yards - the umhb defense must be pretty amazing to see in person -

if we're factoring injury into the equation, i wonder if the all-region voters took into account the fact that reber missed almost 3 full quarters of the ncwc game due to injury...in that game, he was 7-10 for 124 yards and a td along with 7 carries for 38 yards in just over a quarter of play - his back-up (who could probably start at most usasac schools) went 21-30 for 295 and 4 td's...

i wasn't surprised as much as disappointed - i think nance and reber clearly had the best seasons among south region qb's this year - my opinion (shaped both by bias and numbers) is that reber had a better year - because nance is a huge beast of a man and max isn't, hsc uses him around the goal-line more and he gets a lot more rushing td's (mu used jordan vann in most goal-line rushing situations this year, and he had 5 rushing td's on 15 carries) - nance isn't as explosive in the running game and the hsc offense doesn't push the ball down field the way the mu offense does, and i think those things make reber's completion % and int ratio's even more impressive - in my book, accuracy and ball security are two of the most important characteristics of good qb play

i think the rushing td disparity, paired with nance's strong performance in the playoffs carried the day for him - either way, both young men are very deserving, and you're correct, both have another year...maybe max can use this as motivation to come back even better next year - i saw him make 4 or 5 bad reads this year...maybe he can reduce that number :)

Were they all on 9-21? ;D  That game still puzzles me.

4 of the 5 bad reads were vs. ehc...the other was the pick 6 vs. cnu :)

the ehc game got even more vexing as the season went on...with each mu win and each ehc loss, it became even more confusing

Any word out of the Averett camp regarding the HC position ?

I don't think they've said anything yet. I've been checking on it for a while now.  I don't think much will be said for a few weeks to come. I was actually surprised to see E&H name one this early, although he is an alum..so may be not as shocking.

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and completed all your travels safely.
Anyone seen any schedules? Huntingdon hasn't posted one but I advanced the school website event calendar to the fall just to see if anything was there and was able to piece this together.

9/6      @Louisiana College
9/13     BSC
9/20     @Methodist
9/27     @Maryville
10/4     Greensboro
10/11  CNU
10/18  @Ferrum
10/25  LaGrange
11/1     Open
11/8     Averett
11/15  @N.C. Wesleyan

I think the CNU game is 6PM.

Go Hawks!

Looks like the Hawks have a tough month to start the year. I hope the CNU game is a 6:00 start, for selfish reasons...that'll be 7:00 eastern-- plenty of time to unwind after a Maryville win and pick up another 6 pack and head to the recliner to catch the game on the internet. If I'm not mistaken, both teams have a good core coming back for next year?

Next year is going to be one hell of a ride in my opinion. MC, CNU, HC, MU will be strong contenders again and LaGrange will have a say in the matter as well. I just wonder if Ferrum can bounce back from a lackluster year and play some good football.

I don't know. We do lose a good bit to graduation. 3 O-linemen, top two RB's, one of our top receivers and one of the QB's. I was assuming the other QB will be back but even though he was listed as a JR this season it is his 4th year(sat out one year rehabbing after knee surgery) so it's possible he could be in line to graduate too. There were also 5 or 6 starters on defense who were seniors so there are some holes to be filled there too.
Hopefully we have some able bodied replacements ready to jump into the fire or that might be one rough September.

Go Hawks!

Whoa. I didn't know all that. I was under the impression yall were junior heavy.

I would usually say at least you have 3 games to basically use as a preseason before conference play begins, but it's only 2 next year. Hopefully Turk will have the guys tuned up before too long. We need strong conference competition to get the USAC on track to be nationally respected, for lack of a better word. Having 5 out of 9 teams in the hunt and having the ability to win any given Saturday will do that.

Especially if you finish unscathed at the end of the season.

If next year's USAC champ goes undefeated in league play next year, I'll get a shirt from their bookstore and wear it proudly.  Hopefully it's Maryville...got plenty of them without having to deal with 200% bookstore markups and S/H.

CNU85

CNU only had 17 seniors, but 11 were on the 2 deep at year end.

6 on defense. 5 on offense. I think the biggest impact will be at LB. We lose 3 outstanding players including our leading tackler in Moog.

But I have said this before, I remember one year we lost all 4 LB to graduation. And those guys were the best I had seen -- until the next year when the new guys were even better.

Ya just never know!
