Bummer Sewanee is off the schedule again.

It really irritates me they're off the schedule. I understand why E&H is still on-starting the bring the old rivalry back-and I kinda understand why Berry is on the schedule-needed a game and is in the same recruiting area. But I would really like to play Sewanee every year. There's only 3 D3 teams in TN with the other being Rhodes 7 hours away in Memphis. Seems to me the MC/US game would be natural to want to play. It's only a couple hours between the schools.

I agree, so long as it doesn't come at the expense of the long-running W&L-Sewanee series. That is my chance every other year to see the Generals play. And one of these years it's not even going to pour on me while I'm Up on the Mountain.

Those Sewanee boys sure are proud of that mountain of theirs. The weather's not, but they are. Fog Bowl '13 was a pain in the a$$ to watch.

Got to be proud of something, right? I like Sewanee. Kids were nice every time I've been there. This last time with my daughter, who was almost 3 at the time, the cheerleaders gave her purple pom-poms and all came over to chat and play with her. That was pretty cool. The football stadium is dated but the home stands are kind of different. It's always fun to walk around the gym and see the history plaques. I also think it would be a nice campus, if I ever went there and it wasn't raining. Just looks dreary in the rain, as most places do, and it seems to ALWAYS rain. I've been 4 or 5 times between college and post-college and have always been soaked.

I'll be back this year though, rain or shine. We always get lots of talk about our 1976 motor home when we bring it up to tailgate.

Here's a great article from Stefan Cooper, freelancer writer in Blount County and owner/operator of Blount Press Row, on the recent success of the MC football team. I couldn't agree more with the sentiments in his words.

A little aside: people may say what they will about Tony Ierulli, but I've yet to find a man to concern himself more about the well being of his players (not to say Rader is any different), whether you played for him 2 or 20 years ago. Hands down a class act. Proud to say I played in MC's Ierulli Era.

Enjoyed reading the article from blountpressrow.com.   Stefan Cooper is really a talented writer and hit a homerun with this article.  I bet Maryville doesn't put this article on their website so their alums could read it.  It's too complimentary to Ierulli and the previous coach, Phil Wilks.  Without a doubt, Maryville's administration did very little to support their football program and only reacted to help out the new coach when the football alums forced them to make changes.  Most of the money was going to the basketball and volleyball programs during the time my first son attend Maryville.  That figures since the 2 athletic directors during Ierulli's tenure was the men's basketball coach and volleyball coach.

All I know is that my son enjoyed playing for Coach Ierulli and appreciates everything he did to help him start his career after Maryville.  He sent a recommendation letter and called his current employer helping him get his first job after graduation.  A couple of years later, Coach and his wife attend my son's wedding.  You are right, Scots13, he is very loyal to his players even after their playing days are over...

Congrats to LB Andre Carter earning All-American honors for the second straight year. Carter was named to the D3football.com All-American second team.  He was a first team selection to the D3football All-South Region team and was the USA South Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight year.

Carter holds school records for total tackles (292), unassisted tackles (181), assisted tackles (111), tackles for loss (47.5) and yards for loss (174).

He will be greatly missed next fall as will Coach Mooney and defensive coordinator Terry Ursin.

I hope someone at LaGrange will tell new coach Mumme to at least shave and get a haircut.  All you got to do is to take a look at his picture at the LaGrange website and starting wondering if this is the image of a head football coach......

I had a conversation with a couple well to do alumni and ex-admin, and they blatantly told me and a few friends there is some sort of reason a "football guy" would never be an AD at Maryville. As long as there are alumni giving back to the football program and the team is winning I couldn't care less, really.

"a "football guy" would never be an AD at Maryville."

A "football guy" WAS AD at Maryville!   Bottom line........it takes support from the very top down for there to be sustained success.  Hopefully.....now that MC has tasted the playoffs.....it will continue to grow and the Fighting Scots will become a force on the national stage.

Scots13

In the last 20+ years or so, who was the football guy AD at Maryville? VB coach Schram is AD now and took over for MBB Randy Lambert.

Maybe I should have worded my statement as "never again be...".

Bobby Saylor was the HFC and AD prior to Lambert. He also coached baseball one year he was there.

No better person than Coach Saylor. Many fond memories of him from my days at HSC. Give him my best
and Happy New Year !!! Hopefully HSC and MC will see each other in the playoffs again in 2014. The 2013 game was a fun one to watch.

Was thrilled to see the Tigers and Fighting Scots play this year. When I heard the announcement of the pairing....was a whoopin and a fist pumpin!  ;D A great match up for both teams. Next year.....MC gets the W.  ;) Will give Coach S your regards. Anyone that knows him will get a kick out of this. At 77 years old.....he started a new job today at a grocery store....because he wanted to. Old School.....just don't make em that way any more.
