Congrats to Mr. Reber. In addition to being an outstanding player, sounds like he is a solid citizen and knows how to give back. I wish him the best going forward. Wish I had the opportunity to watch him play.

maybe you'll get to see him play in november...a tigers vs. monarchs first-round match-up would not be shocking to me :)

I hope it happens. Both teams need to play well to win respective conferences. Time will tell.

Now, narch. I know you've seen the schedule. Your boys have to get past MC the last week of the year.  ;D

But you're right. A first round trip for Methodist would not come as a shock to me. Or probably anybody in the region..

Maryville, Methodist, CNU, LaGrange, Huntingdon all have a pretty good chance winning it all this year. This is going to be a fun year, especially with 8 conference games.

Huntingdon's first two conference games are @Methodist and @Maryville. Better have our 'A' game dialed in early or we could be behind the 8-ball quick.

Go Hawks!

every conference win or loss counts equally, so i've got 8 dates circled on the schedule - that particular game is the last of the 8...there are at least 7 games that are more important right now :)

Media Day is set for July 28 at Maryville College. Not sure what to think of this, really. I like that MC is hosting because there's a $46 million building to utilize, but as I said last year I'd like to see it hosted by some of the newer members to see what kind of facilities they have.

Any thoughts on a preseason poll?

What the hey - I will get this party started...my preseason poll....with about 2 minutes of research and totally forgetting who lost how many key players etc....just to get the conversation rolling and then I will reserve the right to change! hahaha!

CNU (3)
Methodist (3)
Maryville (2)
Huntingdon (1)
LaGrange
NC Wesleyan
Ferrum
Greensboro
Averett

my minor analysis...... The top 4 teams listed have at least as many wins EACH in 2013 as the bottom 4 COMBINED!! LaGrange is middle of the pack but can make some noise. If I wasn't a Captain, I wouldn't put CNU first simply because they have road games at Huntingdon and Maryville. Also CNU's bye week is week 11.  No bye week means no time to rest and recover from nagging injuries. Might be a factor in the last few games of the schedule.  Go figure...parting shot from the USA South?

So there's my nonsense...who is next?

I agree with your bottom three teams completely.  NCW and LaGrange, especially LC, have tons of experience coming back.  LaGrange should have had a better record than what they had last year in my opinion.  Huntingdon lost quite a few kids, but they are Huntingdon so you know they will have the guys needed to step in and do the job.  Maryville lost a few guys, but I really think they can rebound for this year, even at RB with the loss of Felder.  CNU is CNU. I don't think in the world of USA South sports CNU can do any wrong. They will be strong per usual. Methodist is going to be strong again, probably stronger.

This year is going to have another co-championship or tri-championship.  For what the conference is, this is going to be this strongest year, top-to-almost-bottom, we've probably ever seen.  Competition within the conference is going to be something fun to watch.

1. Methodist
2. Maryville
3.CNU
4. Huntingdon
5.LaGrange (Dark horse of the year. They could easily lead the pack this year. I'm calling it now.)
6. NCWC
7. Ferrum
8. Greensboro
9. Averett

narch, posted this message for you on Friday on the ODAC board - thought there was a better chance you'd see it if I reposted on USASAC:

narch, I wish MU's QB Reber would hurry up and graduate.  lol  He put up some big numbers in last fall's 41-34 win over the Quakers in Fayetteville.  I'm looking forward to another competitive game in Greensboro on September 13.  I checked the scores a few minutes ago and didn't realize the Quakers had lost to the Monarchs the last five seasons.  GC should have a good team again this year (and I know MU will also), so I'm hoping for a different result.

MC Football is now on twitter (like everything else nowadays)-- when they get 1,000 followers they will unveil the new helmets for next season. So, in the spirit of selfishness, if you're on Twitter I ask..no, BEG...you to follow @MCScotsFootball. I've known this information for 5 minutes and I already can't stand it. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT THE NEW LIDS LOOK LIKE.  8-)

They have a combination of white, gold, and green.

Don't the new 100 dollar bills have some purple on them too?  I wouldn't know. I'm paying off student loans...Benjamins are hard to come by  :'(

Maybe since AU has gotten the new field and a new stadium is schedule for the next year, they may be able to attract some good talent. At least with the new field you won't be playing in mud up to your ankles if it rains. Hopefully this new coach will be able to kick start them and they can get 2 or 3 wins from somewhere. Chris has been gone 4 years now and I only saw them play one time last year at CNU. Very small even in the line.

FYI, Chris got married this past Saturday. I now have a daughter to spoil rotten.

If you realized how little we thought of you, you would not care so much about what we think. Why do you care so much about HSC and their QB?  Maybe it so you can distract your friends on this board with the holes MU need to fill this fall.

6 Offensive starters from the last game of 2013 might be returning - 4 OL, a WR and your QB.
4 Defensive starters from the last game of 2013 might be returning. A defense that gave up nearly 400 points and ranked 217 out of 242 last season.

With attrition rates at Methodist being what they are - only 1 senior on last years roster compared to 57 freshmen, I doubt even your coach knows who is coming back until practice starts. Each year at HSC we talk about who graduated out of the program not who flunked and/or dropped out of it.

Last years Monarchs won 8 games but 6 games by a TD or less.  So don't get too cocky with 7 new starters coming back to one of the worst defenses in the nation. How bad were this year's potential starters that last year they were back-ups to that defense?   I think HASA has mentioned Guilford has 18 starters returning. My money is on Guilford.

Over a 2 year period (years Reber and Nance have started) HSC has gone 8/1 against MU common opponents and Nance has had 34 TDs with 9 turnovers.  MU on the other hand has gone 6/3 against common HSC opponents and Reber has had 16 TDs an 8 turnovers. Nance might have had even better stats but he did not play the 4th quarter in 4 of these games.

Nance has an outright Conference Title, a playoff win, 2 All-conference recognitions, FIRST team and Player of the Year in the South recognition, and an Honorable Mention All-American.

No one but you could possibly think that Reber has had a better career to this point.  Reber and Nance are both great but Nance is playing at a higher level.

This year why not celebrate your team and not worry so much about HSC. You guys won't have to ever worry about playing them. I see a 6-4 team from your guys this fall. So try to enjoy having back to back winning seasons for the first time in 9 years. I really think that would be really special- https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RmwqnqL3Hbg
