Yes. The HSC fans are really feeling their oats already  this year. It will be interesting to see if the team will respond.

I'd be interesting in seeing how a dual conference pick 'ems boards would turn out this year...

What does that mean?  Feeling their oats?  Really?  JK, I'm sure you've forgotten more about D3 football than I will ever know - but gimme a break.  You've been reading and responding to my rants for years. How does this post come across any more or less arrogant than any other? ;)

Feeling your oats doesn't refer to arrogance, it refers to feeling more energetic and behaving more excited. It's an old term from horse racing. And I think it is somewhat justified as I have referred to the possibility that this could be a special year for HSC. But I think the term does justice to the little extra oomph and combativeness I feel like I'm seeing. And no, I don't really think it is a bad thing. But this is a better topic for the ODAC board as the season gets closer.

I spoke to Coach Harper the other day, and he shared this story with me. I thought I would post the article.  Very Sad.

If you realized how little we thought of you, you would not care so much about what we think.
that's a lot of words for someone who doesn't care :)

such a predictable response, too

i still think reber is better than nance...

That's cool.  You should - he's your QB. I assume you like him better than most QBs in the nation. But you never mention any other QBs in the same sentence as Reber except for Nance.  How is it that the QB for another team, in another state, on a team MU has never played, a player you have NEVER seen play, seems to ALWAYS be on your mind?

well...let's see...we are talking about arguably the two best qb's in the south region, and we're posting on a message boards frequented by fans of teams in the region...makes sense that we would compare the two

and i knew it would get your panties bunched up...this board has been a bit dry this summer, so i figured you'd bite...

That's your best answer ever.  But when you compare there's really no comparison.

Here's a comparison.
Huntingdon beat HSC with Nance at QB and lost to MU with Reber at QB. Therefore Reber>Nance.

:P

But Maryville beat MU with Reber at QB and lost to HSC with Nance at QB. Therefore Nance>Reber. HA!

Yeah, I did leave out that we beat HSC in '12 and lost to MU in '13.
Our defense in '12 >>> our defense in '13.

Old argument Reber vs. Nance. It appears those in the know felt Nance was better in 2012 (post season honors). We all have personal opinions. I'll give to Narch that he firmly believes Reber is the better of the two. I believe is few is a little tainted (should be) in that he has never seen Nanch play/huge MU fan. So I'm discounting his opinion on the subject but appreciate his passion. TigerFan gives you good advise, MU cannot win ANY championship w/o a good defensive unit. Until that happens, MU will always be looking up at the leaders. That said, good luck to you, Reber and MU in 2014. My prediction GC 41 MU 28 !!!!

so true...

at the end of the regular season, I compiled these stats:

reber: 3,642 total yards (led the nation); nance: 3,320 total yards
reber: 8.08 yds/play; nance: 6.96 yds/play
reber: 2,998 pass yds; nance: 2,779 pass yds
reber:  66.1% completion rate; nance: 64.4% completion rate
reber: 26 pass td's (8.2% of throws); nance: 20 pass td's (5.7% of throws)
reber: 6 interceptions (1.9% of throws); nance: 13 interceptions (3.7% of throws)
reber: 9.49 yards/pass attempt; nance: 7.98 yards/pass attempt
reber: 644 rush yds; nance: 541 rush yds
reber: 4.77 yards/carry; nance: 4.21 yards/carry
reber: 4 rush td; nance: 16 rush td (look a category that nance won...how novel :))
reber: 8 regular season team wins; nance: 8 regular season team wins
reber: 0 post-season wins; nance: 1 post-season win

reber threw deeper down field (yards/attempt and yards/completion), yet completed a higher percentage of passes (completion rate) with a lower percentage of those passes going to the other team (interception rate) and more td's in fewer passes (td rate)...that defies logic unless he's simply a better passer

reber ran for more yards with a higher per carry average...he's simply a better runner (although admittedly not as effective around the goal-line)

so let's review...there are 12 major statistical categories above (and I would encourage you to find other metrics and compare, if you'd like), and reber led nance in 9 of the 12 and they had one tie...9 for reber, 2 for nance, 1 tie...there really IS no comparison - thanks for pointing that out :)
