No way you go for 2 on that. If he doesn't make it, then the conference title and a playoff spot is possibly over in the 2nd conference game of the year. Go for 1 and the tie and keep playing. Just my opinion.
you're on the road, you've got momentum and you've got one of the worst defenses in the country...go for 2 and win it :)

Very solid road win for the Hawks. Jumped out to an early lead taking advantage of an early turnover and was able to keep the lead all day. One of the best games I've seen our DB's play as a group in a long time. Great job by that group in pass coverage and tackling. Great job by the whole team bouncing back after the disappointing loss last week.
Homecoming next week.
Go Hawks! Keep working and improving.

I was hoping they did not go for it because either way the game would have been over. I was enjoying watching it too much for it to end.  But I agree with you Narch. Your QB is banged up, 1 play to win it. Reber certainly did not show anything to suggest he was not going to be anything but great - but he was dinged. I like the idea of 1 play and done if for no other reason it would have gotten Reber off the field for future hits.

I was watching the CNU/MU game last night and I was screaming, go for it.

LaGrange College has to stop turning the ball over early in the game.  We keep on falling way behind only to play catch up in the 2nd help.

Looking forward to the MC/LC game on Saturday.  LC needs to win to stay in the race for Conference champion.

Brutal decision situation. But I have to go with the Narch. None of us know unless you are the one standing there amongst screaming nuts, in the heat, and the smell of your enemy's fear....I guess that's the reason I am in the stands

i applaud coach goss and his staff for most of the decisions they've made in the last two years, but i was very pleased when the offense was still on the field after the td in the first ot...i would rather lose with my best unit (offense) on the field than with the worst unit (defense) on the field...perhaps the intention was never to go for 2, but to make cnu burn a timeout, but i thought this was the perfect opportunity to grab a win - hindsight is 20/20 (although i first-guessed that decision) and there is no assurance that mu would have converted, but i think you've got to give reber, radke and jacobs the opportunity to win it for you - right now, they give you a much better chance to win than the defense does

back to work for the monarchs...the only thing they can do now is take care of their part (winning) and hope some craziness happens with cnu - the captains are really in the drivers seat early in the season, but i think huntingdon and maryville are both capable of beating anyone else in the conference, lc has a qb that can keep them in any game and ncwc and gc have some serious athletes that can turn a game, averett has proven to be a team that will battle and ferrum has reynolds, who is a special, special player - anything can happen over the next 7 weeks!

Hey Narch, I gave you a point (applaud)...I think your mention of Ferrum is the first this season, by anyone on the board but me....They are having a rough year, and it does not look like the next three weeks will bring much hope for the Panthers...CNU, Maryville, and Huntingdon. I watched the game against NCW, and FC showed some real character. Down 27-14 at halftime, they came back, and went ahead 30-27.....then NCW blocked a punt, and two plays later, they were ahead 34-30....Ferrum went right back down the field, and on 4th and 10, Reynolds threw a hail mary to Matthew Kennell who made a great catch between two defenders in the end zone, but (according to the ref) he was out of bounds....it was very very close. From there NCW ran out the clock. Ferrum has a good amount of freshmen starting, and there is a huge learning curve, but Saturday, things seemed to somewhat fall into place.
Ferrum had 319 yards of rushing, and 163 yards of passing. Except for the blocked punt, Ferrum completely outplayed NCW in the second half. Alston, who is amazing, was pretty much shut down in the second half. Oh well...Hope springs eternal in the heart of a real fan....no matter what the record.

What an incredible, gutsy effort by CNU's quarterback, Marcus Morrast.  His performance was, w/out a doubt, the best individual play I've ever seen at Pomoco.  He's not super talented and doesn't have good size, but he makes up for it w/determination and heart....make no mistake, that kid is a football player, my friends.  Reber's good, and he had a great game (can really sling it), but #12 outplayed him Saturday night.

I also saw great sportsmanship from Morrast and Reber when they met at midfield for the OT coin toss.  You could tell they had a mutual respect for one another....

I spent all day Sunday putting up "Missing" flyers around Newport News, as CNU's defense has yet to show up this season, which still baffles me.  There were times when they were just awful....my only hope is that they improve week by week.

As they say, a win is a win, and I'll take it, but there's a long way to go....

i noticed that, too...really classy move by two guys who left EVERYTHING on the field saturday night

i'm not sure i agree that morrast "outplayed" reber...they both played about as well as you can expect a qb to play and it's tough to say one was any better than the other - morrast surely put his team on his capable back and willed them to win, though

narch

it's an off-week, so i'm playing around with stats a little this week...

first up -  the game on saturday - exactly half of mu's plays went for more than 3 yards, so there was a 50/50 chance that mu would have converted the 2 pt conversion if they had tried it :)

second up - three of the top 5 rushers in the conference are qb's - reynolds is at 93.3 ypg, morrast is at 88.0 ypg and pittenger is at 75.2 ypg - in conference games (small sample, admittedly) those guys are 2nd (morrast, 150.0 ypg), 3rd (pittenger, 115.5 ypg) and 4th (reynolds, 109.0 ypg) in rushing ypg, and all three are above 100.0 ypg

i'll have more, i'm sure :)

CNU85

Also means a 50% chance you lose and your PAT kicker was 6-6. I just think the kids played too hard to try to win it on a 2pt conversion in the second conference game of the season. Now if it was later in the year and your team has no shot of winning the conference, and you can be a spoiler and there is nothing to lose - then go for it!!!! But when the conference title is still on the line, you play the odds.

I'm older, so maybe I'm more conservative.  :-*

Swish3

Perhaps you're right, narch....both quarterbacks had great games, but I think I'm still in awe of Morrast's performance, particularly once it was obvious that the kid was totally spent.

Reber was exhausted as well. He got hit hard a few times. He gave it everything....That is one game I would like to watch again on video.
