It was a neat atmosphere. Kind of strange I thaught that the fact that the visitor side filled up with home fans before the game started. But the Maryville player knew exactly where there fans were and fed off of there small gruop of fans when they needed it.

Been to two games in TN and still don't get why players are not on the field for the Natinal Anthem??

Very neat, for sure.

And yes, I agree that is not great regarding team not being present for the National Anthem.  That should be done, no question, IMO.  Anyway, again, congrats to your Maryville.

Super!  I checked the score last night ... big win for the Scots!

Why is it that the National Anthem is played anyway?  Nobody plays it before history class begins.  The connection between nationalism and athletics is what?

Same reason kids recite (or at least used to recite) the Pledge of Allegiance  at school every morning. Is 3 minutes prior to kickoff a hassle?

It began in earnest in World War II. You can google the question and find historical tidbits.

Since MC has today off I'm flipping between the Guilford/Methodist and Ferrum/Shenandoah games. First (and really the only) thought is FC and MU both aren't very good on offense.
MC has E&H next week. If they get past the Wasps I think MC is rolling the rest of the way to the Huntingdon game near the end of the season.

Thanks for sharing the History.. I know here in Texas at every level of sports the teams come on to the field and line up before the playing of the national anthem.

I knew something was up with last week's MU score. They aren't that good without Saint Max. And Guilford's skill guys are legit.

If you look at the box score, Methodist's only score was a 93-yard kickoff return.  A couple of other 20+ yard returns and all the guy got the rest of the game were low kicks on the ground.  Guilford set the tone early, scoring on their second possession, successfully going for two and then recovering a perfect onside kick.  GC had 620 yards offense and had possession over 40 minutes.  I think MU had about 200 yards passing, but -8 on the ground.  It was never in doubt after the first quarter.

Not sure about 80, but the Quakers were clicking ... 2nd and 3rd teams were in almost all the second half.  I was impressed with MU's kickoff returns, but the Monarchs are obviously still looking for an identity at QB.  Little bit of rain in the 2nd Quarter and overcast, so much less hot than other trips I've made to Methodist.

LaGrange loses in OT to Berry 16-13 and Huntingdon loses to Birmingham Southern 35-34.
Ferrum, NCWC, Averett, Greensboro also share space in the Loss Column. (And well-documented Methodist)

Tough week for the USAC. Maryville is only winners and they played D1-FCS ETSU. We'll have to see if that game is 'impressive' after 2 weeks when E&H plays the Bucs.

not to bicker, but i was watching late in the 3rd and 15, 18, 27, 25 and 10 (all starters) were still playing...i think the statement that 2nd and 3rd teams were in almost all the second half is a bit overstated...guilford dominated in every way, but let's not pretend that it was the 2nd and 3rd teamers dominating :)

before the season, i would not have thought the monarchs would be searching for an identity at qb with jordan vann - i'm a little perplexed by the fact that he has not started the first two games, but i trust the coaches know better than i do what the team needs
