Huntingdon choked that game away. Two kickoff returns for TDS by BSC, a Hawks missed field goal, turnovers. Going for two at the end and a ludicrous number of 15 yard penalties. Huntingdon looked poorly disciplined. Not even sure what to say about that game except sloppy. That being said, I love going to games at BSC, a great place to see a game.

Watching the game online, I agree 100%.

BSC beat LaGrange by 1. LaGrange lost to Berry by 3. Berry lost to Maryille by 26.
Huntingdon beat Louisiana by 21. Louisiana plays TLU next week, so we'll see how that goes.
And from what I heard, MC handled BSC in the preseason scrimmage pretty well.
Real head scratcher kind of 2 weeks to start a season.

It started the second play of the game with a BS targeting call that took one of our best linebackers out of the game. They didn't call a pass interference the whole night until the one at the end that was waved off on a tipped ball. There were at least five that should have been called. Then the late hit on our receiver in the 4th that wasn't called. The field judge standing 5 yards away looking right at it should never call a game again. The whole group of officials should give back their paychecks for this game.

guilford could have scored 80 today...
Not sure about 80, but the Quakers were clicking ... 2nd and 3rd teams were in almost all the second half.  I was impressed with MU's kickoff returns, but the Monarchs are obviously still looking for an identity at QB.  Little bit of rain in the 2nd Quarter and overcast, so much less hot than other trips I've made to Methodist.
not to bicker, but i was watching late in the 3rd and 15, 18, 27, 25 and 10 (all starters) were still playing...i think the statement that 2nd and 3rd teams were in almost all the second half is a bit overstated...guilford dominated in every way, but let's not pretend that it was the 2nd and 3rd teamers dominating :)

before the season, i would not have thought the monarchs would be searching for an identity at qb with jordan vann - i'm a little perplexed by the fact that he has not started the first two games, but i trust the coaches know better than i do what the team needs
I didn't note the exact time ... guess I'll have to keep an exact log on my program.  :)  Best of luck to the Monarchs the rest of the season.

Yeah. Refs weren't great. On the last two meaningful snaps of the game they missed penalties against both teams. What should have been the TD that forced overtime featured the receiver shoving off. It was massive. Full arms extended and the DB crashing to the ground 2 yards away as the ball arrived. The back judge missing that was unbelievable. Watching on the hill overlooking the endzone even the Huntingdon folks near me couldn't believe the WR got away with it. That TD never should have counted.

But the refs giveth and they taketh away. On the failed 2 point conversion that followed, the defender smothered the receiver well before the ball arrived and that should have been pass interference. It was also incredibly obvious and even the BSC folks on the other side were chuckling about a make up call. Either way, when teams rack up 9 or 10 personal fouls between them in one game, something is wrong.

The refs were poor, the Hawks were poor, why did they kick to #8 again? He was killing on returns and the Hawks just kept going to his side. Could the kicker not kick to the other side of the field? In the end, BSC did enough to win and Huntingdon helped them the whole game long. The two kick returns and then on two other TD drives they were kept alive with 15 yard penalties. That's ridiculous. Especially the one that negated the 15 yard sack where the QB slipped deep in the back field and the D-lineman decided 3 steps later to jump on top of him. That would have brought up 4th and forever and instead it was an automatic first down. That kid should run laps for an hour for that boneheaded mistake that led to a TD.

Coach Turk is going to be very unhappy when he watches that game film.

Three notes for ODAC and USASAC fans:

1.  Guilford football ranked (at #25) for the first time (to my knowledge) in school history.
2.  In related news, Hell freezes over at noon today.
3.  Any Averett fans making the trip to Greensboro on Saturday?  ... if so, make sure you say hello.

Thanks, Scots13.  As proud as I am of the Quakers, I never thought I'd see it in my lifetime ... but really glad I have.

It's well-deserved hasa. Coach R has been doing a good steady job of improving the recruiting and is finally seeing the fruits of his (and his staff's) labors.

Thanks, HSCTiger 74.  Coach Rusiewicz and his staff have done a remarkable job ... but this group of players is motivated.  They came to camp determined and worked hard in the offseason.   The leadership of the upper classmen is showing.

Yeah, we pretty much always try to kick it to that left side I guess to kind of hem them in that corner but it looks like they may have found a hole in our left side coverage there. With the open date this week we have two weeks to fix that.
I didn't really agree with going for two either. With the TD's on the kickoff returns their defense had been the field for most of the 4th quarter and I thought were tiring. I think we beat them in OT. I didn't see what happened on the two-point conversion as I had a tree blocking my view of the back of the endzone. I kind of lost it and blew up at the official on the no-call on the late hit on our receiver and put myself in time-out and watched the rest of the game from the hill next to my truck. With the school president sitting two rows in front of me when it happened I'm kind of wondering if I'm going to get some kind of reprimand or something.  :P ;D

i'll make a note that accurate time keeping is one of the few things that is not your strength :)...per the box score, guilford starters appear to have been pulled with about 58 seconds remaining in the third period, as starters made every defensive and offensive play up until that point in the quarter

guilford is the real deal, and very deserving of the top 25 in my opinion, and not just because they dismantled mu last weekend - they have one of the best qb/rb/wr combo's in the region, and there is depth at rb and wr - 25 is almost as good as 27 and 10 might be the best wr on the guilford roster, although smith is going to get more "press" - what stood out to me is this...they were probably the first team i can ever remember where every person at every position was a better athlete than their mu counterpart - this guilford squad was as athletic as any team i've seen in monarch stadium in the last 2 decades - they have good size, are well coached, aggressive, athletic and have skill position players that are poised and know what they're doing - pawlowski never panics and throws such a good ball - the only thing i saw that could be a negative going forward is the number of penalties...but they've got enough talent to overcome those - they will not lose in the regular season, and if they do, it will be a massive upset

Don't forget E&H in the ODAC week 11. Pretty talented offense they got themselves in SWVA. I guess we'll see how good either they or MC really is this Saturday.
