i'll make a note that accurate time keeping is one of the few things that is not your strength :)...per the box score, guilford starters appear to have been pulled with about 58 seconds remaining in the third period, as starters made every defensive and offensive play up until that point in the quarter

Three notes for ODAC and USASAC fans:

1.  Guilford football ranked (at #25) for the first time (to my knowledge) in school history.
2.  In related news, Hell freezes over at noon today.
3.  Any Averett fans making the trip to Greensboro on Saturday?  ... if so, make sure you say hello.
guilford is the real deal, and very deserving of the top 25 in my opinion, and not just because they dismantled mu last weekend - they have one of the best qb/rb/wr combo's in the region, and there is depth at rb and wr - 25 is almost as good as 27 and 10 might be the best wr on the guilford roster, although smith is going to get more "press" - what stood out to me is this...they were probably the first team i can ever remember where every person at every position was a better athlete than their mu counterpart - this guilford squad was as athletic as any team i've seen in monarch stadium in the last 2 decades - they have good size, are well coached, aggressive, athletic and have skill position players that are poised and know what they're doing - pawlowski never panics and throws such a good ball - the only thing i saw that could be a negative going forward is the number of penalties...but they've got enough talent to overcome those - they will not lose in the regular season, and if they do, it will be a massive upset
I suppose accurate time keeping could be one of my strengths if I hadn't been so busy talking with other GCQ fans around me.  lol  Thanks.

High praise for the Quakers, narch.  Hope we can live up to that as we finish the season, especially against the traditional ODAC frontrunners.  It's true, expectations are high on West Friendly Avenue, but we know other ODAC teams will not take it lightly ... glad we have SU, RMC, HSC and E&H at home!

jknezek

Yep. This season works out pretty favorably schedule wise for the Quakers. HSC and E&H are probably the other contenders and both of them have to visit Guilford. Good luck everywhere but Lexington!

I was disappointed that E&H had a week 2 bye. Would have liked to see more of what they have coming into this MC game with E&H. First year following D3 so closely so I had to look back some. It looks like E&H has been a thorn in the side of MC. I know that the upperclassmen and coaches are stressing to the younger guys that this is a revenge game. Can't wait to be there to see it, it should be an exciting match up between a high powered offence and a stingy defence.
GO SCOTTS!!!

Hotel room reserved, client meetings down I-81 set, all I need now is a 12 pack of beer, a cooler full of ice, a Scots win and this will be one hell of a weekend.

Congratulations to Maryville.  Not surprised they won, but I am by the margin.

Congratulations also to Methodist ... narch, hope you were there!  To be honest, I didn't see this coming ... figured the Jackets as about 2 TD favorites.

Congratulations to Maryville.  Not surprised they won, but I am by the margin.

I heard Shuler wasn't playing and I thought it would be a 3 to 4 point game either way. No idea it would be by 17. Shuler plays in that game and the margin is 28-35. Could have picked up 1st downs throughout the game that allowed MC to put it in the end zone and not settle for a FG attempt. There were several ankle biter type tackles that Shuler would have busted. No doubt about it.

I suppose I am going to have to attend a Maryville game this year.  Met their QB over the summer, and he surely seems to be a dynamic kid.

Congrats to the Quakers on a fantastic start to the season.  Always a good thing to have ranked opponents on your schedule, even if it does result in a loss.

On a more serious note, I was hoping to get some opinions about Averett football this year.  I do not get to make it to a lot of games, as I live in Knoxville now, so all of my frustration comes from the articles about the losses.  I understand that rebuilding seasons are a part of the game, but how long are we going to be rebuilding???  It is hard to look at the program in the same light as when I attended and played a short time ago.

Just my morning rant for today, I guess.  ;D ;D ;D

Good luck to all teams this weekend!

Short and sweet of it for Averett (and LaGrange and Greensboro and Ferrum): they just aren't very good. They have some good athletes like they have had in the past, but can't seem to put it together. I have to admit, Averett is not my favorite, but I do like Coach Adams. I hope he can find some success.
You would think recruiting would be bolstered here recently with all the updates they are doing to their facilities. It doesn't look like it.

If AU can sure up their defense they might be able to win some close games. Until then, it'll be like a mule trying to chase a thoroughbred.

I watched the Averett at W&L game. There just aren't enough athletes on the field, especially on defense. W&L is not particularly athletic, but they manhandled the Averett defense. The other thing I noticed is Averett started with a transfer QB and he really struggled. Didn't look comfortable, missed open throws, etc. They put the starter back in from last year and the team immediately rallied around. After halftime they went back to the transfer and it wasn't pretty on offense and then finally gave up and went back to the guy who made things happen, but the game was well out of reach. I get that it was the first game and the transfer must have won the job in camp, but come game time he either had a really bad night or hadn't won the team over, or both. I don't know who Coach Adams went with in the games after that, but his eval of who was ready to play that night wasn't on target and the team, not just the QB, played like it.

Kelly Hall, the transfer from UNC-Charlotte, seemed to play the whole game at Guilford ... some good plays, 270 yards passing.

AUgrad40

Unfortunately, I believe that both of you are correct.

A lot has changed with the program since my time at Averett, which I expected with the change in leadership.  I just hope that Coach Adams is able to right the ship, and at least make us competitive.

From what I can tell, we have weapons on offense.  It just looks like we will have to outscore every opponent.
