Unfortunately, I believe that both of you are correct.

A lot has changed with the program since my time at Averett, which I expected with the change in leadership.  I just hope that Coach Adams is able to right the ship, and at least make us competitive.

From what I can tell, we have weapons on offense.  It just looks like we will have to outscore every opponent.
I think you're right ... you'll have to score 28 plus to win.  I give Averett a shot vs Greensboro and Ferrum, who both seem to be "righting the ship."  Methodist was completely outplayed versus Guilford, but topped RMC ... all told, I think the Monarchs are better than GCP, AU and FC.  Haven't seen the other USASAC teams, so not sure.  Looking at scores and opponents, however, pretty sure AU can't hang with Maryville.

Fair assessment.
I'm just glad we (USAC) won 2 games against the ODAC last week. We continue to struggle as a conference OOC.

Gettysburg deservedly won the Play of the Week, but Guilford/Averett nomination was one of the five finalists.  Check it out!

3 out of 3. Maryville wins USAC Play of the Week with Kimball's 63 yard touchdown against E&H.

Well, we finally know what's up with Trenton Shuler-- staph infection, apparently in his stomach. Doctors have decided to keep him at Blount Memorial Hospital for a few more days. (This is his second stay in the hospital with this illness.) Doctors expect a full recovery. (Per father's post on Facebook.)

I hope you all will send up a prayer for Trenton and his family.

Didn't make the trip to Mississippi this time so only caught parts on my phone yesterday and watched the other parts this morning. From that and the box score it didn't look like a real outstanding performance by the Hawks. The offense finally got into gear in the second half and was able to pull away with the help of a couple of turnovers. The defense gave up probably too much yardage but made some big stops at crucial points. Twice Belhaven had first and goal inside the five(one was first and goal inside the one) and had to settle for field goals. Basically a good win to finish the non-conference part of the schedule. Looking for a big game from everyone this week to begin conference play and homecoming. Go Hawks!

We decided to stay in the area and go see Faulkner's home opener where they destroyed what was supposed to be a pretty good Georgetown 44-0. Was able to see my nephew get in and throw his first college TD pass. Pretty awesome to get to see that.

Congratualtions to your nephew!  We all live vicariously through our children and siblings' kids ... I remember the elation I felt in 2004 when my son was All-State in wrestling and his cousin's basketball team won the state championship.  My nephew went on to play DII college basketball and had some good moments there as well, including hitting 9 three-pointers in a row as a 6'8" forward.

hope all is well.
I am glad we dont play Faulkner anymore. The hawks were 4-0 (?) against them, but they are loaded now.  Thier teams keep getting better each year.
Hope all is well with yall keep the faith

DGP,
Doing well over here, friend. That would be a real tough matchup if we still played them. That defense was scary the other day. Definitely some athletes over there. I hate I wasn't consulted on the schedules though.  :P Faulkner has three home games left and they are all at the same time as HC home games. Going to have to decide which games that I will miss that I really want to see.
You take care.

After observing the first 4 weeks of the season played against non-conference opponents, the reality is that the USA-South is not a good conference this season.  Our conference was 8-16 during against non-conference teams with Ferrum, LaGrange, Averett and N.C. Wesleyan compiling 0-3 records.  That's 50% of our conference teams.

With the exception of Maryville's win against Emory & Henry, most of the conference wins were against low-end teams.  (I know much was made against MC's win against East Tennessee, but Emory & Henry beat ETSU 2 weeks later.  In reality ETSU is a JV team with playing with just freshmen and is not better than a low end D-3 team).

Methodist got crushed by Guilford.  Huntingdon lost to Birmingham-Southern for the first time and their 2 wins are against teams who have not won a game this season.  Greensboro's only win was against Gallaudet.

I was expecting good things this season from LaGrange, but we are 0-3 and were favored in all 3 of their losses.   BTW, Air-Mumme's dad at Belhaven, Hal Mumme is 0-4 which makes the Mumme family 0-7 this season.

Why has this been a continued problem for our conference year after year???

So you're saying Greensboro, Averett, Ferrum, NCWC, and LaGrange can beat ETSU as well? ETSU's team of freshmen would wax the rest of the conference. Huntingdon could scored some points on them, but make no mistake- they are not a "low end D3 team". No matter the situation, anytime a non-scholarship program beats a scholarship program it's a good win. Plain and simple.

MC beat E&H 30-13 without Trenton Shuler in the line up. That's by 17 without the offensive stud making the trip. Pretty impressive, I'd say.

You can clump the USAC teams into the "terrible" category if you want, but MC is not one of them.

Maryville 43, Berry 17 (Berry is now 3-1)
Maryville 28, ETSU 21
Maryville 30, E&H 13 (E&H is now 2-1, playing RMC today, and was picked second in the ODAC)

And the problems for the USAC are recruiting and facilities..

Terrible start to the 3rd. Muffed punt and fumbled snap in 2 possessions lead to 14 easy points for MU. MC up 21-17.

MC comes back to win 29-23. Methodist came to play today, boys and girls.

I've been wondering why they have been playing a freshman at quarterback when they have Vann and I found out the reason. The kid is pretty good. Second coming of Reber over the next 3.5 years?

It was ugly in the second half, but MC is now 4-0.

another classic mu vs. mvc game...i was watching on live stats all afternoon, and i kept saying "just hold on boys"...i knew there would be a crazy finish...there almost always is with mu and mvc - when i saw that mu gave the ball back to mvc with a couple minutes left (in really good field position, too), i had a pit in my stomach

senior leadership at the qb position is big in close games, and pittenger is as good as it gets in this conference...kid went 5-5 for 48 yards on the game-winning drive...that's what senior qb's do
