Both are small liberal arts colleges in Greensboro. Neither are renowned nationally or even regionally as superior academic institutions. Guilford caters to a lot of continuing education non-traditional students. Nothing wrong with that. A student from GC does not get favor over a student from Greensboro. Both offer a good liberal arts education. One thing that's very similar is that on Saturdays in the fall football is the last thing on many of the students' minds.

I see Maryville's 2017 schedule up on d3football.com now. We were right, three non-conf games against Berry, Hanover, and @E&H with no Brevard. Open date Oct 7 before going to Huntingdon on Oct 14. Not too thrilled about that. ;)

Good. An extra week to rest and prepare to get the monkey off our backs!

I hope Guilford is back to form after the injuries last year. Week 1 will be a damn good game if they are.

Looking forward to the 2017, I'd say there are 4 tiers in the league:

Top: Huntingdon and Maryville
Rising, but not quite there: Averett, Ferrum, NCWC
Slumping for no apparent reason: Methodist and LaGrange
Not a chance: Greensboro and Brevard

If there was a spring ball poll, and they cared about my opinion, I'd vote:

1a and 1b: Maryville and Huntingdon. Both are strong teams. Great coaching staffs. Great recruiting. Losing 2 strong QBs. I think it's neck and neck right now.
3. NCWC. I like how they have been playing in the recent years. They're bound to have a year were they put it all together.
4. Averett. I feel like Coach Adams is on to something in Danville. They've given MC a run for their money 2 years in a row.
5. Ferrum. Coach Grande had a good first year at Ferrum. Let's see if there is a sophomore slump.
6. Methodist. They were poised to be a top USAC team a few years ago. Has to be disappointing for Monarch fans.
7. LaGrange. Shocked they are not a yearly contender. One of two D3 teams in GA and have some good athletes.
8. Brevard. Coming down from D2. Time will tell what they have to offer the USAC. Lost to E&H last year.
9. Greensboro.  ::)

I appreciate it but I don't know if I am as optimistic that we can stay at the top this year. We're going to need a whole bunch of young guys to step up and be ready to play. In addition to the QB we also lost 2 of our top 3 RB's, 6 of our top 8 WR's, 3 of 5 starting OL and all but 2 or 3 of the 10 or 11 guys in the rotation on the DL. We also lost 3 offensive coaches so there's a lot of work to be done in Montgomery to stay at the top of the conference.

Scots13

If that's the case, I'll move HC down from 1a/b to 2. If that's not too harsh.

Your Hawks will be fine. I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

One of those coaches was Tim Conner, a Maryville grad. Glad to see he's moving up in the world. Temple is my new favorite AAC, not saying I had one to begin with.

I'm looking forward to this game as well.  With all the talent lost to graduation after 2015, I don't think anyone expected another 9-1 season in 2016 ... but we sure as heck didn't expect 4-6 either ... especially after a 4-0 start.  Anyone know if Huntingdon is returning the favor and coming to Guilford in 2018?

Scots13

I would have thought Guilford would have been in the 8-2/7-3 range after the 9-1 season. Tough breaks for the Quakers. We'll see if Huntingdon has found replacements to fill in the spots lost to graduation and whether or not Guilford can rebound fairly quickly. By far the most compelling USAC/ODAC game this fall IMO.

Actually I'm pretty happy about the slate of ODAC/USASAC games this year. For once it doesn't necessarily seem like strength on weakness. Guilford/Huntingdon and E&H/Maryville are interesting. But so is Averett/HSC and Averett/RMC. I think Averett is on the way up, and those games back to back might provide some really interesting data about the state of the ODAC this year. N.C. Wes/Shenandoah could be good as well. The Ferrum and Methodist/Guilford game don't do much for me, but overall, this could be an interesting year for the ODAC/USASAC match ups. Mainly because Averett seems to be on the upswing.

If I'm remembering right, I think I was told it is a four year deal.

Does anyone know when the last time the USAC beat the ODAC during the OOC slate?
