ssu up 24 - 14 - roncketti def. missed the last 2 series for the monarchs - that's not good news for mc - sounded like the wind came out of the monarch sails when rocket went out - let's hope he's back for the 2nd half - GO MONARCHS!

Final:

Averett 31 Maryville 28.

Schwan was hurt right before the half, did not play the
second half but the Maryville announcers did not report how
bad the injury is so I don't know.

usasac taking some lumps today - looks like the monarchs took it on the chin, 48-28 - i was unable to listen to the second half to see if rocket got back in the game - sounds like the cnu score could have been even worse if rowan hadn't made some mistakes - su struggles to beat catholic and is out-gained by almost 100 yards - ncwc loses by 16 to nna - no word on ferrum/gcq - tough opening weekend, but averett has to be feeling good with a 1-0 conference mark right now :)

let's regroup and get this thing right - the monarchs get the quackers next week - we'll see if the ecu transfer qb is the real deal or not - GO MONARCHS!

Shenandoah 12 Catholic 0 - Final

Not a good game for either team, although SU defense controlled the line on runs and the Punter #23 was excellant for giving Catholic poor field position.  Catholic changed out the QB a lot and had some good early plays and then again on their last drive against a prevent defense.  I don't know what it was supposed to prevent.  A 65(70) yard punt to the seven of Catholic lead to a sack in the endzone.  SU needs more variety with the running game and the passing was not as strong as you would like. First game jitters I think.  Pretty clean game overall.  Catholic lost a TD near the end of the game when the catch was ruled incompleted, no possesion before going out of the endzone.   SU intercepted twice, none for Catholic, no fumbles lost by either team. Only fumble I saw was a bad exchange between the QB and Center late in the game by SU.

ferrum rolled guilford 41-7...that offense looks like it's in mid-season form

rocket didn't play in the second half, but frosh bartee played well...150+ passing, 40 rushing - defense did not show up, allowing 500+ yards and 380+ rushing (johnson had 18 for 150)

SU pictures our there now.  Not as good as they will be in the future. Had to use a small digital camera with a limited zoom.  More close up shots next week.

Enjoy the pics.  They'll get better.  When I'm really organized again I'll even have some video clips now and then.  By the way I thought our defense did come to play and this was a good game to build those skills.  The QBs of Catholic will be a force and showed that today with some crisp passes. But our guys were always near the receivers and made some great stops.

Way to go Hornets!!!  Great game from the defense. I cant wait to see what they do once they really get going as a unit. The freshman kicker that played today I was VERY IMPRESSED with. He made a 32 yarder with plenty to spare. Im sure he was nervous as all get out for the young guy, I'm sure we will see a lot more from him in the future. Next week is going to be a big test for the Hornets as usual against Bridgewater. Last year SU dominated Bridgewater in stats. But because of lousy special teams the game was out of hand. Good luck to you next week guys.
P.S. To the D3.COM guys. Are you going to make the Bridgewater/SU game the game of the week like last year? Shentel should be a wild place in the valley once again. Last year we had almost 8,000 fans.

ok - apparently there is some confusion about wether rocket played in the 2nd half...can anybody listening tell me?  the press release says he was 15-31 for 222 yards and the box score from the ssu site is different than it was earlier showing those same numbers and none for bartee...i know the announcers said that chris missed the last few series of the 1st half??? - this could be great news, despite the loss - if anyone has any insight, it would be much appreciated

Where are all the CNWHO posters in here? This was brought up once before either in here or in D3HOOPS that when the Caps win all the CNWHO fans are all over this web site . But when they lose they hide. Come on guys I love reading the excuses of why the great and mighty CNU lost. Last year it was because of the kicker and the refs. What are you going to blame todays on?

Uncle Jessica get a grip. A lot of CNU posters stopped posting on this board weeks ago, thus the reason the board room got a little dull. And please oh please don't get us started on your girls again. Lets see CNU played the #7 team in the D3 for its first game of the year. Your girls played a team that hasn't won 7 games in the last 3 years, so in other words don't make any comments about CNU or who we lost to. Because bottom line is today you beat a nobody 12-0. Yeah you guys are really getting prepared to make a run deep in the playoffs. Just worry about what happens when you ladies come back to Pomoco.

P.S. Congrats on beating Catholic ,I would imagine that you guys will be playing on ESPN next week for pulling out that win. I saw clips of the great upset flashing on D3 football.com. Pat said that he will fly out to the Valley and collect some game film to run clips all week on this site, so everyone in the D3 nation can see how the mighty Hornets pulled off a more shocking victory than TCU beating Oklahoma.

Tough loss today for the Captains. Gotta get the offense in gear and help the defense out by keeping them on the sidelines a bit longer!

No big deal, though. Based on the previous four seasons, losing the season opener seems to be a good omen. We'll get healthy next week and then it's time to gear up for Salisbury and Shenandoah.

Cnusfinest, I know beating Catholic isn't that impressive, but we shouldn't talk too much smack about Shenandoah until we start consistently beating them.
