True CNUGrad but the history of football tells me otherwise.  Sometimes for some unknown reason a lesser talented team like SU sometimes just has a better team like CNU # from time to time. But bottom line is combined with the three losses we have had against SU in the past, how many people that follow D3 football closely feel that SU is a better team than CNU.

SU can't seem to beat Gboro neither,  their only conference win came against the mighty Hornets last year. So in other words  sometimes SH-t happens. :o   But CNU is still better hands down.

Uncle Jessie

Awwww, did I hit a nerve cnwhofinest??? You need to learn to take a joke when it comes to posting on when I wrote about how the room is dead when CNU has lost for the day.  But bottom line is you guys are nowhere in site when your team loses. You guys also have an excuse for every loss. What's the excuse for yesterdays game? I still haven't seen that one.  And Where did I say or write that SU is a lot better then CNWHO? You wrote don't get you started. Well, Im getting you started. Since you say don't get us started on "the girls" well what dose it say about your team getting stopped at the goal line a few times last season by a bunch of girls? CNWHO< CNWHO<CNWHO!!!!!

Now jokes aside to all CNU fans that went to the game. What in the world did happen yesterday for Rowan to gain over 600 yards but only get 21 points? Also how did your marching band look? Did you all get one started this season? I thought I read that you were but havent heard much about it in awhile.

WEWIN,

Nice meeting you guys yesterday.  It was a good game.  CNU kept fighting and stayed in it.  Rowan usually has a hard time getting in gear right out of the gate.  Had me a little worried.

See you guys next year or in the playoffs whichever comes first.  Good luck the rest of the way.

Swish3

Cooter,

CNU did about as much bending as a team can do yesterday w/out breaking....that's how.  This game boiled down to Rowan's dominance in the trenches.  As JT mentioned, CNU hung in there, but you can only dodge so many bullets.

By the way, we'll see what you have to say after SU visits Pomoco.

GO CAPS!

Another thought....

I think Ferrum's going to be tough this year.  They were a lot better than their record last year, where they lost several close ones.  I wouldn't be surprised to see them go to E&H next weekend and beat them pretty badly.  Well, I guess we'll see what happens....

GO CAPS!

Pat Coleman

Thanks for the invite. I don't know right now what game we will feature but for the moment I am planning on attending the Catholic/Augustana game because how often do I get to see a team like Augustana in my backyard?

I'll try to negotiate with my mother-in-law to see if I can get her to watch the kids so I can do both, but she did that yesterday too and I don't want to overreach.

Ferrum as a general rule is tough; however, they beat Guilford who had new systems in, new coaches, (players from Iron Mike Ketchum's days) and no running game. Guilford was in the red zone 4 times and failed to score 3 times. They put the  ball on the ground 3 times. They have the smallest o-line in the ODAC. They do not have a swivel hip tailback. They did throw for about 250 yards. So predicated on this info I believe EH is about a +2. I smell an "upset". EH will beat them.

i have some clarification on the rocket "injury" situation - he was never hurt - his jersey was ripped, he took a play off to switch jersey's with the 3rd string qb and returned wearing bartee's number...very good news for monarch fans!

abnrgr - your quackers are on the clock...tick-tock!

GO MONARCHS!

Swish3

abnrgr,

I wasn't basing my comments about Ferrum on Saturday's win against Guilford, who we all know is pretty bad.  They played us tough last year in Newport News and, as I mentioned before, lost several close ones.  I just have a hunch....

GO CAPS!

ok, so it's monday after week one and only two teams in the usasac are really feeling REALLY good about themselves right now...ferrum, who rolled gcq, and g'boro, who didn't play

the hornets won ugly against a team that was 0-10 last year, and were outgained by over 100 yards - next up is a very angry bridgewater team that lost after being up big at 1/2 time

the captains gave up over 600 yards to rowan and only had 17 yards rushing on 26 attempts...wow

the monarchs got throttled by ssu to the tune of 588 yards, but they did put up some solid offensive numbers, and hey, roncketti wasn't injured :)

averett won, but they may have lost swann for a prolonged period (possibly the season...but that is PURE SPECULATION)

m'ville lost their conference opener and gets to travel to cnu for a consolation prize

ncwc lost to nna...

let's hope week 2 is a little better for the conference

Three Sails

Observations from the Captains game last Saturday...........

D gave up over 600 yards but there were few really big plays - the curl routes and four wide receiver sets hurt CNU all day long.  Rowan kept CNU in the game with missed FG and turnovers.

Doubt it would have made a big difference in the outcome but LB Gary Freeman was missed big time (he got called up to Reserve duty for hurricane relief on Friday).  Rowan completed a number of passes just in front of the LBs.  Also CNU missed four other players due to suspensions for team rules violations.

O-line will need to gel - defense was on the field way too long because the running game could not get going.  Too few holes to run through.  Offense could not sustain drives (CNU scored 14 points on a short drive with 45 yard TD reception and a kickoff return) and that put too much pressure on the defense.

Size matters - for Rowan height among receivers and weight on the line will make them hard to defeat.  They do seem to rely on the QB's arm a bit much - but that was what was working for them.  Expect to see them playing in December.

CNU gamble to go on fourth down early in 4thQ hurt big time.  Put the defense out there yet again with limited rest.

Great burst of speed by Mike O'Brian on the TD catch - he could be a nice complement to Nathan Davis who had a nice day (8 grabs for 100+ yds).

Captains will be fine - they have tremendous depth (and speed) among the specialist and new personnel on the line should come together.

This was a good learning experience for the Captains who will bounce back quickly as in previous years.  Also a good measuring stick to see where they stack up nationally.  This test will pay off come playoff time.

three sails - great username - i like the spin, but i've gotta disagree - give me 588 yards with a 5 or 6 big plays vs. 600+ with sustained drives 8 days a week - a team that gives up big plays can make adjustments and corrections...big plays are usually indicative of busted coverage, blown assignments or a qb who spins out of 3 tackles (as johnson for ssu did against mc on his 51 yard run) - those things can be fixed, to a degree - sustained drives, to me, mean you've got problems that are bigger than coaching guys up and correcting a few mental mistakes - if i were a captain fan, the numbers 17/26 would bother me tremendously, too, regardless of the competition

all that being said, i think rowan will sustain drives on a LOT of teams this year, and the monarchs might have given up 700+ - that qb is the real deal, and sakeen wright was a contributor at a d1 (ecu)...but we're talking about 2 programs with different expectations - cnu fans should expect to compete nationally, while mc fans HOPE to compete nationally - right now, i don't think either team is there, but i do think the capts. are closer than the monarchs - i'll be interested to see how the capts fare against ssu in a few weeks

The bottom line is the Captains are really young up front on the D line and the O line. I don't care who you play for but when you loose your whole front lines it will be a growing process for any team.  Rowan has a really good team again and I was extremly proud of how the defense played. I was also proud of how Soph Mike O' Brian AKA MOB made a big time play to put our team ahead. To all the young Captains congratulations you got your first taste of college football. Another treat about your first game is that you also got a taste of a playoff semi final team while others where eating cupcakes. No offense to Maryville but this week should be a lot easier for the Captains.

I did not imply anything negative about your comment. Normally (historically) Ferrum and Guilford play each other close. Good luck......

Narch-You are such a sociopath ;D. Stirring up the masses with the tick tick. I imagine you will score 41 points this week.

Now I got to get back to work

QuoteI was extremly proud of how the defense played

really  ???

i wasn't proud of how the monarch defense played this weekend, and i expect more out of them, not just because they are playing guilford this weekend, but because they have to do more if the monarchs are going to contend this season

it's quacker week...GO MONARCHS!
