I call Guilford GC-Q and Greensboro, GC at the request of of the Greensboro Pridesters. That started about about a year or 2 ago.

Remember the movie Platoon when one guy said "you don't spell Dear, Deeer and Sarah ain't got 2 "r"s. The other troop answered "she don't read to good anyhow".

Well that's why the Pridesters know what I mean.

Go with the leader is my motto unless the talented one gets really really talented. Everyone is so used to seeing somebody (at MC) that can take off, break contain, and take a hit. Why disappoint?

I'd heard this rumored before, but a story in the Greensboro News & Record this morning confirms Campbell's plan to restart football in 2008.  The Camels played from 1925 until the Korean War.  I always heard a story they stopped football because a player suffocated in the mud at the bottom of a pile-up .... not sure if that's true or just a legend.  Anyway, Campbell says they plan to apply to the I-AA non-scholarship Pioneer League.  By my count, that's 30 football playing colleges in NC - more pressure on the recruiting front.  lol

Yeah, abnrgr, I'm with you - I've seen you use GC-Q before.  I think there was one post where Mosh might have thought you were talking about the Quakers and he wasn't sure.  Anyway, no big thing at all.  By the way, take a look at GC-Q's website and pull up the camera for the new press box - it's starting to take a little shape.  :)

you aren't kidding!  the monarchs are really surrounded with campbell as a 1aa non-scholly program, and uncp and fsu as d2 programs - i don't really worry about losing recruits to 1a schools, even most 1aa's, because truly, the kids that can really play at those schools don't consider a d3, but the 1aa ns programs and d2's...that's another story - and to top it off, uncp and fsu are less than 1/2 of what mc costs BEFORE they throw scholarships at kids, and cu is a few thousand less (and more generous with their $$'s)...doesn't bode well for regional recruiting down the road, but i'm confident in the monarch coaching staff and their ability to win some of those battles!

narch - I wasn't aware UNC-P was going to start a team, so that makes 31 NC schools with football!  When do the Braves start and what league will that be?

For the amount of players that make it to the high school playoffs here in nc we should be ok.  We are the 10th best football state in the nation acordding to the HC at UNC.  Seems like to me, the good teams do a good job of retaining talent (making the players stars) and the losers dont fair so well in that department.  So you should factor into the equation 31 schools x four years.

Who is winning the recruiting war?

I have a kid that is 6-4 300 looking for a home.  2.4 GPA and 850 on the SAT's.

CNU85

Sailor,

thanks for the info. The UVA transfer I was talking about was a CNU starter....my source is starting to become a little suspect. A few other things he mentioned did not pan out.....he likes to talk, I guess. I'll keep checking.

Mosh....I'm naive in the d3 recruiting world.....who would take a kid with a 2.4 and an SAT of 850 at the d3 level? If he is having difficulty finding a home and still wants to play bad enough, send him to Newport News....to the Apprentice School. He can play, get some more time in the classroom, and get paid!!!  Also, he'll end up with a trade. Not a bad option.

moshergc9

I think if he doesnt get in anywhere then he is going to go to hargrave military academy

no prob cnu 85.  the kid you are talking about is at maryland right now.  he should know pretty soon.  i know for sure he is not coming back after the bad taste some of the coaches left in his mouth.  shisty

You probably already knew, but Brevard is also starting a program this season...NAIA/DII..I think they are DII provisional or something.

'nova - i think uncp will play as a d2 independent, at least initially - i can't really think of where they might fit - the peach belt has no schools which play football and uncp is not a good fit for the sac - i've heard that the ciaa is a possibity, especially with many of the ciaa schools talking about goin d1aa, but i just can't imagine a school that isn't a hbcu in the ciaa...they start in '07 and actually have signed 10-15 players who will redshirt next season, play spring ball next spring and then start playing on the varsity level

cnu85 - you are very naive...that kid could end up at almost any d3, including some schools you wouldn't imagine he would get into based on academic reputation

Yeah, I was aware of Brevard and counted them in my 31.   One of my brothers lives in that general part of the state (Hayesville/Clay Co.) and his son plays hoops for Montreat, which is in the NAIA DII Appalachian League with Brevard - if anything is going on in that league he usually lets me know.

narch - As you know, DII or DIII independent football is tough.  I agree, the SAC, being all private schools, may be reluctant to let a state-supported school join.  We'd probably hear the same stuff we hear from the rest of the USASAC about CNU's financial advantage.  The CIAA might be a better fit than you think since they have a mix of private and state schools already.  I understand the HBCU background of the CIAA, but maybe UNC-P will argue their historical background as a college for Native Americans will be philosophical a fit.

I thinks that's great for kids in NC having The Camels and even Pembrook with programs. There are load of kids at the dreaded BC Eagles sitting the bench that could go down there and start.  More fodder (hopefully) for GC-Q (until those schools get on their feet). As a former Havelock Rams assistant we had kids that should have gone somehere and these programs can help them get into school. I personally did not care (well I did care) as long that had that shot of going to college and getting out of some those small towns on the coast (ala Me and Papi) seeing some life. If they got kilt in football I always pushed for them to stay. If I got one to stay I would have been happy and I was because 50% of my boys stayed. I coached for that feeling. I also liked to see people get hit hard down there when they came to Havelock.  ;)
