Do they actually play football in Va Beach? (just a joke - I grew up on the Peninsula....in Hampton with the hated Crabbers!! I love it when they lose!)

85 I saw the highlights from the championship game vs my buddys team from up north..Anyways, the crabbers have a serious qb on their hands this yr....

The link up above shows a former Pride Player / UGA walkon (chris shaw in a movie with some famous actor) I guess it is about the Marshall Plane disaster..  Good to see the Pride getting some PR.

hopefully...this was the first time that it's been hosted on our campus...from everything i hear the event was very well run and the shrine bowl folks were pretty happy...hopefully this becomes a yearly deal

Been kind of slow on the board: Spring practice must not have pumped people as much as what I would have thought. According to an article in the Maryville news paper: The Daily Times Maryville College is excited to have 21 out of 22 starters returning as well as all of their specialists from last season. With that much experience returning I hope that Maryville will be able to compete and maybe turn some of those close losses to conference foes into wins. This is all determined by how hard the players work in the off- season, and by them coming together in the fall and playing good hard, clean football.

P.S. Maybe the USA South and the GSAC could combine and create a super conference- similiar to what the SCAC is doing? Any thoughts?

Travel might be a big issue is the GSAC and USA South combined.  Imagine having to travel from Huntingdon in Alabama to Shenandoah in Winchester, VA at least once per season in every sport.

no spring game, no pads...it is what it is...guys throwing around a football and running some drills - don't get me wrong, i think it's a huge improvement over no spring ball, but fans just aren't going to get too excited without watching guys knock the snot out of each other

let me know if that's still the case in august...never seen a d3 team return everyone they thought they'd return...could be a first, though

like rm, i don't think that will happen with the current conference alignments - maybe if cua, su and cnu went to the cac to form an all-sports conference with wesley, salisbury, frostburg and the other current cac members the usasac would consider a merger with the gsac, but i don't see that happening in the near future

Narch,
I certainly respect your point of view. Your knowledge of D3 football is reflected in your discussions on this forum. In response: (1) I agreee that fans might not get that excited about Spring practice since there are no pads and no "real" spring game, yet I believe that it is great from a players and coaches point of view. Players get more excited about the off- season knowing that they will actually get to practice and not just lift. Coaches get a chance to evaluate players and teach the underclassman more in depth than they do during the regular season. I am a former D3 player who never understood why everyone else could have off- season practice, but football could not.
(2) Being a former player, I too know that everyone does not always return, yet it is encouraging for the Scots to finally be in this position.(3) Maybe create a North and South region in the "super" conference?

That is about 759 miles.

Just a little shorter than Mississippi College to Sul Ross State! ;)

It can be done!

highlander - don't get me wrong...i'm  a huge fan of what spring ball does for players and player development - i think it helps retention of players and i think teams can get better - but even for the most die-hard fan (like myself), it's hard to get excited about watching guys run drills in shorts and t-shirts - like you, i've never understood why full-contact spring football is such a bad thing for d3 - almost every other sport gets to play a full non-traditional schedule, to include scrimmages against other teams...why can't football put on pads for 8-10 days and have a spring game?

Papi
2 Havelock LB's went to the NFL. Guy Whimper Giants and Chris Moore to the Saints. Whimper changed over to OT at ECU but Planet Head Moore stayed as a MLB. What a hat bringing fool. We got 6 playoff games out of them before they went to ECU. WHo was the East Carteret LB who played at State? Did he get in? Hope so.

The last EC LB to go pro was Levar Fisher.  He was my fullback at East.  Could really bring the pain.  I remember him knocking a LB from WC out cold during the Mullet Bucket.  Last I heard he was playing for the Saints.  He's had a bunch of injuries in his 3-4 years in the league.
Any fool can circumnavigate the world sober...it takes a real sailor to do it drunk!!!

Lavar. That was the guy who smoked one of our recievers. He entered the film and disappeared so fast he was blur. Now that guy was THE HAT BRINGING fool. He was the fastest kid I ever saw at EC. Maybe in the league to include my playing days. Fearless!!
