I will be there.

Roll Pride
Hopefully, we can say hello.  With the Soup Bowl, stadium renovations AND Homecoming, it should be a good crowd.  Go Quakers!

Congrats to Rob Rodriguez on making d3football.com pre-season All-American!

Well I guess, Its time for me to join this post.  USASouth Releases the Preseason poll tomorrow.  Any thoughts on what it will look like.

Deep down I wish they gave those tools to Iron Mike Ketchum.

I have to wonder if there was bad blood between him and Kirby and or the President. I mean as soon as Kirby walked in he dropped a load of poopie when Mike was demoted and then well.......you know the story.  Mike leaves and a wheelbarrow of money falls on the field.

I cannot believe anybody coached harder than he. Especially when it's the alma mater. I know that I was pretty intense at Havelock because I played on that field and took it personally when we lost. Granted high school and college are different.

I got upset if West Carteret scored on us. (for Papi) ;)

Did WC score on anyone in those days?   ;D

My senior year Papas and crowd took us to the brink. We had to score on a punt return with about 20 seconds for 13-7 win. Funny it's about the only score I remember except a 26-3 pounding we gave to DA Bears of New Bern (AKA Free shoes U).

MC- How can they beat the QUAKERS this year?

I'm not sure how all that came down, but I like Mike Ketchum as well.  He was GC Head Coach for 14 years - and an assistant before that - at his alma mater no less, so he had a long stint and no one doubts his passion for the job.  Granted, he probably never got the facilities and budget he needed, but that's another story.  I think Mike would have stayed until he retired, but his last seven seasons were below .500 with a couple of 1-9 and 2-8's thrown in the mix.  It's certainly not all his fault, but after a while you've got to act.  Actually, Kirby was AD with Mike as Head Football Coach for at least three or four years before Kiesel arrived.  Ironically, Mike had both roles for a few years, got burned out with it and asked Kirby to consider being the AD at Guilford when he was ready to hang it up coaching at Greensboro.  At the time, everyone thought it was a win-win, so to speak.  As far as the money issue is concerned, I think a lot of that came from President Chabotar when he arrived in 2002.  His predecessor was there from 1996-2002 and, in my opinion, the college's infrastructure took a beating during his tenure.  Chabotar seems better at fund-raising and realizing the importance of "curb appeal," so the facilities have improved across the board, not just in football.  To be fair, McNemar got the new Science facility completed, but I didn't see much progress in other areas.

To quote Elvis, "Thank you, thank you very much."  Big D (hasanova) has left the building!  lol

Speaking of improving facilities, Narch has MC done anything recently to improve the stadium.  The last update I can remember was the track being added and the extra seats.  Are there restrooms out there yet or is it still the rent-a-jon's under the trees?

I don't proclaim to be an expert on the USA South Football teams. (I am more in tuned with basketball, but that season is far away).  I have to keep myself busy somehow. I played one year at Greensboro College and still am a student there.  I will give you my prediction on how the teams will finish this year.  Although football is one of the hardest things to predict. As we can see from last year.  SU predicted to finish 2nd, finished last

1 Ferrum
2 Averett
3 CNU
4 Methodist
5 Greensboro
6 Shenadoah
7 Maryville
8 NC Wesleyan

Go Pride!!  I think they will really turn it around.  I will probably be the least bias person throughout the season.  I enjoy good football and thats what I will talk about even if my team stuggles or prevails.

2006 USA South Coaches Poll
Rank Institution (1st place Votes)   Pts.
1. Ferrum (4)                             46
2. Christopher Newport (3)           44
T3. Averett (1)                           35
T3. Methodist                             35
5. N.C. Wesleyan                        22
T6. Maryville                              17
T6. Shenandoah                         17
8. Greensboro                              8

Congratulations to Greensboro College ! !

Is it just my imagination, but did the Pride win position 8 unanimously!

Does that mean Greensboro College voted itself #8? Is that the Bear Bryant mindset?

My personal and very biased opinion, the Pride just might sneak up on some people with their offensive firepower.

Maybe wishful thinking, or maybe not, but here are my predictions:

1 Ferrum
2 Averett
3 Greensboro
4 Methodist
5 CNU
6 Shenadoah
7 NC Wesleyan
8 Maryville

Could be a very surprising year . . . . .

PrideSportBBallGuy

D3Newbie-
Yeah it looks like it for GC that they won last place unanimously.  Although If its like any other polls in the conference.  The coach doesn't vote for thier team. You can't argue with how they finished last year 1-9.  But they lost 4 games last year to a total of 17pts.  I hope the polls aren't as accurate as they have been in the past.  It will help Greensboro's cause if it continues to be the trend.  Maybe the coaches were looking at it that the question mark is the QB position, because it truly is the question mark.

I just hope this poll motivates the players.

moshergc9

I think Maryville is returning the team.  I would put them in the top four.

1-4  Greensboro (last to first will be pretty tough, new qb good skilled players), Cnu (state school), Maryville, Ferrum(not sure what they return)

5. Averett
6. Methodist
7. NC Wes (heard rumors they wanted to be unc rocky mount
8.  Shenadoah

The Pride is dominating this board now!

Roll Pride!

As I have stated earlier, I believe that anyone in this conference can beat anyone on any given day. Pre- season polls are just tools to get the fans excited about the upcoming season, which in it's self is great for the game. I love how the fans of of the truest college football (D3) are so involved with knowledge and love for their institutions. It certainly looks like the conference has picked up in regards to non- conference games. The teams that wins the conference will have the following things happen- (1) A great off- season in regards to strength and conditioning (2) Returning players who have not graduated (3) Are able to stay away from injuries.
