CNU85- Enough said good recap, but are you sure there weren't many more clichés in those speechs.

Football season can't come soon enough.

narch

you guys don't listen to jim sypult enough...he comes straight from the lou holtz "tell 'em like it is" school of public speaking...he says what he thinks and he's usually pretty straight forward and honest - in previous years i've posted his quotes...don't have any nuggets from media day this year, but i'll bet he was entertaining

BEAR 75

jim sypult is always honest in his opinions. he is probably the best coach in usa south. he has a very good staff with the best offensive coordinator in conference. don't count the monarchs out just yet.

PrideSportBBallGuy

I was refering to coaches in general.  There are alot of coaches out there that don't come out straight forward.  As I former player, I have seen many of coaches that haven't. CNU85 did a good recap of the sterotype of coaches.  I haven't heard Jim Sypult speak, so as I was expressing my opinion of coaches.  Jim Mora was straight forward too.  One word comes to mind "Playoffs,"  But it seems to me that posting here you can't express your opinion like Jim Sypult.

-nova back in Greensboro...Its pride all the way now haha.  Less then a month away until the Souper Bowl.

NEW QB AT METHODIST

Methodist, which was conference co-champion with Ferrum in 2005, is looking to replace standout quarterback Chris Roncketti. Coach Jim Sypult recruited two freshmen, either of whom he said could start.

"Our expectation is to contend for the title and win it outright," Sypult said, displaying his team's colors with his green shirt and tie and yellow sport coat.

It definitely should be another interesting game, but I hope it's not "pride all the way now."  You can win the other nine this fall, but it's our turn to even the series at 5-5.  Besides, it's our Homecoming.  lol  You must mean less than a month until the season starts, because it's 58 days until the Souper Bowl on Sept 30.  When kickoff gets this close, hey, we all get a little antsy.  :)  Go Quakers!

I have created a league on Yahoo.com for the NFL football season where each week you pick which NFL team will win. Basically its pretty much just like the NCAA basketball tournament where you pick each bracket and the winner is the guy or gal with the best winning pct. Its not something that takes alot of time and its all for fun. No money involved. Lets see who should be placing bets in Vegas. All are welcome. I have 50 spots availb.

'85 - where did you get that tidbit...or did you make it up?  if you made it up, it clearly sounds like something coach sy would say...you chanelled him well

not 100% but I think that was in the Daily Press

Is there a tougher schedule in the country than Averett's & what are your thoughts about a schedule like that? National champ - another top 10 team - another '06 playoff team - 2 more playoff teams from '05 - plus the nations leading passing offense in '06 (I think Guilford)
Mount Union H
Wesley College A
Guilford College H
Ferrum College H
Methodist College A
NC Wesleyan College A
Greensboro College H
Shenandoah University A
Christopher Newport University A
Maryville College H
To all newbies - don't run your mouth until the team you're pulling for wins the big game. (please refer to Eh-You's karma for more details)

I think we would need to see how the rest of the SOS/RPI matches up to compare UMHB and Averett.  UMHB catches most of the toughest foes at home.  I personally think that the ASC is a tougher football conference than the USAC down the line.  We can match the ASC-9 vs the USAC-8 for some type of RPI.

As for passing offenses that UMHB will play in 2006, the 2005 team passing offense team leaders on the UMHB schedule include #2 Louisiana College, #13 Texas Lutheran, #26 Sul Ross State, #28 UW-Whitewater, #29 Howard Payne, and #35 Hardin-Simmons.  Averett is facing the 2005 #5 Guilford, #20 Mount Union and #30 Wesley.

To whom were you referring as the '06 playoff team?

If Averett is 2-1 thru the first 3 weeks, I think that they are in the Top 25.

if averett is 1-2 after the first 3 weeks, they should be jumping for joy...there isn't a slouch among those first 3 teams (including the quackers) and a win in any of those games would be a good win

i'll say this...if they play mount and wesley tough, watch out usasac, 'cause they'll be a confident bunch - personally, i hope the cougars go 0-4 to start the season and have their spirits crushed and simply roll over in game 5 :)

seriously, i hope they do well in those games and rep the conference a little

Well Guys I'm back, and gearing up for another season of Panther Football. I have to admit, I am surprised at the preseason selection of FC finishing 1st in the USASAC. I dont think they have what it takes to take the title, but I am hopeful. I think we will know alot more after the 9/16 game against Bridgewater.
If they are 2-0 after that, I will reevaluate things.

I think that there are alot of areas for concern, they need to improve greatly in :

Secondary
Offensive Line (Not many returning)
Special Teams
Passing game (they need a more balanced offensive attack)

Not sure how many are aware that Hank Norton...Ferrum's long time coach was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame during the offseason.

I really would like to see D-3 Sports.com do a feature write up on him and his accomplishments/induction. Norton went 244-77-11 in 34 seasons at Ferrum between 1960 and 1993 This included 4 National Junior College Championships, and once as runner up

I doubt there are many anywhere with better numbers.

Hey Pat, what do you think about a D3 article?

Good luck to all the teams, and I look forward to your posts!
BEWARE THE BLACK HATS!

Eh-You

I meant to say 3 playoff teams from '05 (Ferrum, Wesley, Mount Union) and 2 playoff teams from '04 (CNU & SU) Sorry for the confusion. It's a wee bit early for me to be calling teams '06 playoff teams huh?

Thanks for the clarification.

I also thought about finding an OAC team with a tough schedule as well!

Good luck to Averett!
