Weather update ..... a lot different than what I posted for you yesterday.

Now it looks like the weather in the 'boro will be declining for Saturday because of Ernesto.

Last I heard was ... windy (15 mph) with rain and a high of 79.

Rain, rain, go away >:(

RU Fan - It's looking less and less like a fun weekend....a holiday weekend drive in the rain. Maybe I'll listen on the internet.

Raiderfan...High school football around here gets more news time than CNU. Since you are from Ohio you maynot have heard some college players (and some pros) talking about 757 (our area code). Many players from CNU's back yard go on to play D1 ball, pros and even a few in the Hall of Fame.

I won't bore you with details....but here is a brief sample (very brief)....I went to High School with 2 guys that became Buckeyes!! Jimmy and Shawn Gayle. My wife went to High School with Al Toon. My brother went to High School (many years before me) with Hall of Famer Dwight Stephenson. My son goes to the High School that had Toon and current DB David Macklin. My daughter goes to a different High School where a Hall of Famer attended (Henry Jordan - long time ago) but is better known for graduates Michael and Marcus Vick. And the Ferguson Center on CNU's campus is the site of another High School that was torn down - a place where Aaron Brooks went to school.

I could list tons more local players like Lawrence Taylor, and cousins Terry Kirby and Chris Slade....but you get the picture..a hot bed of high school talent....then they all leave to go play somewhere else. It hasn't been until the past 7 years or so that Va Tech and Virginia have been able to keep some of these kids in state.

That's one of the many reasons CNU has been succesful. there are some very talented d3 caliber players right here in the local area.

Heck - a few months ago I was in the teacher parking lot of my son's school and there was a car there with Va vanity plates that read Mt Union. It had a Purple Raider sticker in the window.

NOBODY graduated from my HS - at least that what they said after all the records burned up when the school burned down(true!)  :(

But Ronald Reagan graduated from my dad's HS (also true!)  :P

But seriously - Please tell me Greensboro is going to be dry this weekend  ???

CNU85,
Now thats what I like, a place where the football greats are revered and long remembered. Just goes to show...you can bloom wherever yer planted. Its ironic that with all the records and record setters that passed through Mount Union that none that I can remember ever played pro ball in the NFL. Ballard was on the Buffalo Bills but never saw action. A couple went to the Canadian league and some had NFL tryouts but never stuck. However there are some playing arena ball doing very well. There have been some opponents that went pro and were outstanding when they played  the Raiders, but were losers on the field when they went head to head with Mount Union. I guess that is just a testament to teamwork prevailing over individual talent.

Chris Kern played for the Detroit Lions -- actual playing time, not just wearing a uniform.

Kiras Dad wins!!!

NNSID....fellow Bruin. I knew I liked you for some reason!! I left Iverson out of the mix, since he plays hoops. His first football game as  a Bruin - A little skinny 9th grader...first game in HS, varsity team......5 touchdowns! 1 passing, 2 running, 1 punt return and 1 Int return (somethinglike that...I could have the rushing and passing mixed up and the punt return could have been a kickoff). I just remember reading the paper and thinking....NFL.

Hey I actually went to high school and graduated the same year with a pro football player who was drafted in the fourth round by the Jags, then signed with the Giants and is now, at least the last I heard, was signed by the Pats. Which is also the same  high school that LT, Ron Springs and Mel Grey all went to. I cant remember if anyone else went there or not.

You hit the big 3 there goose
Tim Goad (Patrick Co., VA, HS, UNC-CH, NE Patriots, Cleveland Browns/Baltimore Ravens) went to the same public schools as me.  He's younger than me, so we weren't in school at the same time.  It was funny, when he was in the NFL he would visit his parents in Claudville, VA and his sports car was worth about twice as much as their house!

Brad Clontz (VPI, Atlanta Braves, LA Dodgers, NY Mets and Pittsburgh Pirates) also went to Patrick Co. HS.

I remember those guys.  All are good players.  Thanks for the reminder.  Hey, I saw QB Anthony Wright get in the game for the Cincinnati Bengals the other night.  He's now in his 9th NFL season and has also played for the Steelers, the Cowboys and the Ravens.  Do you remember him from West Craven HS (New Bern) and the University of South Carolina?  His mother, Donna, used to work for me when I was with Moen in New Bern.  I saw him play for USC versus Kentucky in 1997 when Tim Couch was the Wildcat QB.   Anthony passed for three and ran for two in a 42-38 Gamecock victory.
